Breaking news on TV channels.

A white Bolero vehicle carrying pilgrims on the Jammu-Pathankot highway, close to the Pakistani border, was stopped by Pakistani terrorists dressed in army fatigues.

They forced the victims to get down from the car and run towards the forest, and suddenly opened fire killing one and injuring three others.

The terrorist have reportedly fled with the vehicle. All areas have been sealed and commandos have been deployed in the adjoining areas. All schools and colleges have been shut down after the attack, which took place at Dyalachak this morning.

Time of Attack ??

Not a likely terrorist modus operandi in J&K.

rogues / thugs / thieves ? more likely.

Vehicle is a straight give away !

No they were terrorists probably suicide bombers who wanted to attack Army camp. They were intercepted near a Army camp and in the gunfight that followed one Jawan was killed and two others were injured while 2 terrorists were also shot down.

But the problem is that these guys were in army uniforms and this is a big issue.

Not only it can be deadly and create confusion, but those people in J&K might loose trust on our armed forces if such incidents continue.

Slain soldier laid to rest with military honours

The military personnel of the 25th Punjab Regiment, led by second in command Major K.B. Chand, brought the casket containing the mortal remains of Viji by road from Tambaram air force station.

The funeral of Lance Naik V. Anthony Nirmal Viji (31), who was killed in a fidayeen attack in Jammu on Friday, took place at his native place at Mugaiyur in Thirukkoilur block with full military honours on Saturday.

The military personnel of the 25th Punjab Regiment, led by second in command Major K.B. Chand, brought the casket containing the mortal remains of Viji by road from Tambaram air force station. On reaching Mugaiyur, the coffin wrapped with the national flag was carried to the house where a large number of grieving family members and relatives gathered.

Since it was a small house on a narrow lane and the crowd was swelling to an unmanageable level, the military personnel did not open the casket in the house.

After keeping the casket hardly for half-an-hour in the house, it was put on a flower bedecked tractor-trailer and the cortege accompanied by the personnel went to St. Xaviers Church in the area. On the request of the priests, the coffin was kept in the spacious courtyard of the church for public viewing.

After performing the rituals as provided under the Christian faith for about an hour, the body was taken to the cemetery situated on the Villupuram – Thirukkoilur road where 14-gun salute was given by the personnel (each fired three rounds in the air) before lowering the casket into the grave.

Almost the entire Mugaiyur village paid homage to the solider, who was attached to the Artillery 111 Rocket Regiment and who met with untimely death in the hands of terrorists.

The soldier's father Velankanni (67) said though it was a sad moment in his life he felt proud because his son had sacrificed his life for the country. Mr. Velankanni, who was the elected vice-president of the Mugaiyur panchayat from 20001-2006, said that he only hoped that the government would provide a job to Viji's wife Pauline Nirmal as she had to take care of two daughters Nimal Jeffrina (6) and Nirmal Joshna (3).

District Collector V. Sampath told The Hindu that Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had sanctioned Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the bereaved family.

Former Minister K. Ponmudy, who attended the funeral said, the State government must take it up with the Election Commission to release the compensation immediately. Mr Ponmudy also said that the Villupuram district unit of the DMK would give a financial support of Rs 1 lakh to the family. He also sought a government job to the soldier's wife.

Mugaiyur residents swell the ranks of Army

For a population of 5,000, there are over 600 soldiers
For hearing exploits of soldiers on the war front, one must go to Mugaiyur village. The otherwise non-descript place tucked away in a corner of the Thirukkoilur block in Villupuram district is full of war veterans and serving defence personnel.

What is unique about the village is that the patriotic fervour and nationalism seem to be naturally running in the veins of the young and the old, and, men and women. It has acted as a trigger to inspire more and more residents of Mugaiyur to join the Army.

The village hogged the limelight when its "proud son of the soil" V. Anthony Nirmal Viji (31), a Lance Naik in Artillery 111 Rocket Regiment, was killed by terrorists at Jammu recently. By laying down his life, he has become the hero of the place and it is most likely that he would become part of the folklore too.

For a village with a population of about 5,000, there are no less than 600 soldiers. Some of them have tagged on the prefix ex-servicemen to their names for, they had served in the India-China war, the India-Pakistan war and the recent Kargil war.

Elevated ranks

A few of them occupied elevated ranks such as Captains and Junior Commissioned Officers. They are proud to be seen in their starched uniforms decorated with medals. They were seen strutting here and there, regulating the mourners who had turned up for the funeral of Viji.

Unlike in other mourning places the village looked different on the day the body arrived there. A. Lourdusamy and Irudhayanathan, ex-servicemen, told this correspondent that the village had the long tradition of swelling the ranks of the military from the days of World War II. Therefore, for generations, they were willingly joining the Army, with the fullest support of women.

The boys in turn got inspired by the elders, and from young age, they start equipping themselves for the task.

While the elderly persons had acquired remarkable brisk gait in their walks thanks to the strict regimen in the Army, the youths look like ramrods with erecting chest and bulging biceps.
We dont brainwash our Young men... They are patriots themselves... Whenever a soldier is down, Brave men take up his rifle and our ranks swell with legendary Warriors!!!

பாரத அன்னை வாழ்க, வெற்றிவேல் வீரவேல்!!! (Long Live Baharat Mata, Victorius spear, ValiantSpear!!! A Traditional Tamil Call for War)

Bharat Mata Ki Jai!!!

Vande Mataram!!!
