Pakistani pigeon jailed in India on spying suspicion
A pigeon has been jailed in India on suspicion of spying after it crossed border from Pakistan and was captured with a mysterious stamped message on its tail.
Though the stamping of the birds could be normal for those who are keeping and breeding birds but the authorities were alarmed after wire-like object was on its body.
The pigeon was reportedly discovered by a young boy on Wednesday after it landed in Manwal village, around two and a half miles from the Pakistan border.
A part of the message was in Urdu, but the numbers appeared to be that of a landline telephone in Pakistan’s Narowal district, according to Times of India newspaper.
The 14-year-old boy took the pigeon to the nearest police station and the cops then took the bird to a veterinary hospital in Pathankot for an X-ray which did not throw up any clues.
Pathankot senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rakesh Kaushal said “Nothing adverse has been found, but we have kept the bird in our custody.”
He said “This is a rare instance of a bird from Pakistan being spotted here. We have caught a few spies here. The area is sensitive, given its proximity to Jammu, where infiltration is quite common.”
The bird was termed a “suspected spy” by cops at Bamiyal police post
