PESHAWAR: A blast on Abdara road in Peshawar killed two persons and injured 19 others on Monday, DawnNews reported.

A vehicle of the US Consulate was the target of the attack, sources said.

The blast took place near an office of the United Nations (UN) when a vehicle laden with explosives rammed into the consulate's car.

The bomb-proof consulate vehicle was destroyed in the blast, whereas, several other vehicles and five to six nearby buildings were also damaged. The explosion left a four-feet-wide and eight-feet-deep crater on the road and uprooted electricity poles in the vicinity.

CCPO Peshawar Imtiaz Altaf confirmed that 110 kilograms of explosives were used in the attack.

Sources at the Khyber Teaching Hospital confirmed that two dead bodies had been received and 19 injured people had been brought in for treatment after the blast.

Speaking to media representatives at the site of the explosion, Federal Minister for Communications Arbab Alamgir Khan confirmed that two foreign nationals had been injured in the attack. The US embassy also confirmed that two foreigners were injured in the blast who were shifted to the US Club in another consulate vehicle immediately after the attack.

The passport of a US national was also found from the site of the explosion.

Sources told DawnNews that threats had been received two days ago about an attack on the US consulate after which security had been put on high alert.

No one claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Two Americans were killed in a suicide car bomb attack targeting a US consulate vehicle in Peshawar on Monday, a provincial information minister said.
Police have recovered a half-burnt US passport from a car badly damaged in the explosion, intelligence officials said.

"The blast killed two Americans. This is a dangerous move from the terrorists — they want to terrorise the foreigners," Mian Iftikhar Hussain, information minister for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa told AFP, adding that two Americans were also wounded in the blast.

"The dead and injured are from the US consulate. It was a suicide attack. The suicide bomber targeted US vehicle," he said.

However, the US embassy in Islamabad denied reports that two Americans had been killed in the suicide car bomb attack.

An embassy spokesman said they had no reports of any Americans killed in the blast, after provincial information minister said two had died.

An intelligence official confirmed the US consulate car was the target, with another saying the suicide bomber ploughed his vehicle into it.
Peshawar police chief Imtiaz Altaf said the car bomb was loaded with up to 110 kilograms (240 pounds) of explosives, including more than 10 mortar rounds.
There were 19 wounded in the attack, he said.

The blast took place near residential quarters for the US consulate and foreign aid organisations, senior police officer Tahir Ayub told AFP, adding that three people were injured.

A senior security official confirmed two deaths, while witnesses said two vehicles were damaged in the explosion.

Umar Riaz, a senior police officer, said initial reports suggested the blast was a car bomb, with the vehicle parked around 25 metres from the office of the UNHCR.

The explosion left a crater in the road and destroyed a Jeep, damaging two others and demolishing the facing walls of four nearby houses, an AFP reporter said.

"We are not sure about the nature of the explosives at the moment or whether it was a remote control bomb or not," Riaz said.

The injured were shifted to Khyber Teaching Hospital.

Police immediately cordoned off the area, while a rescue operation was launched in the area.
Peshawar is the main city in northwest Pakistan and the gateway to the lawless tribal regions along the Afghan border, where Taliban and al Qaeda militants have strongholds.

According to a report published in The Express Tribune on September 2, the Asmatullah Moavia faction had been tasked with targeting military and security check posts at University Road, Peshawar.

The contents of a circular issued to law enforcement agencies by the interior ministry's National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) had revealed that banned outfits were planning attacks on sensitive installments across the country.

Well lets see what US will do

CNN says no americans were killed,, no one seems anxious to take responsibility,, I expect the idea of being a drone target for life is not good career move. The US is buiilding more drones then bombers or fighters, training more drone pilots then fighter and bomber pilots combined. Developing technology to refuel drones to keep them on station longer. More and more people in areas like Pakistan are working for the USA gathering intelligence, terrorist groups are being infiltrated, while the leader ship of terrorist organizations try to limit the use of phones and computers they younger recruits are doing it on the sly and compromising security......lot of militants are thugs useing extortion to provide funds for their movement which in turn is causing their victims to drop a dime on their locations.
