pakis buying 40 yrs old tank from serbia?

who Paid money??

what modernizing of these T-55 can do?

are they to be used on afghan borders?
That is correct. These machines should be used to watch AfPak border. Because they don't need very sophisticated bombing machines. Few upgrades with the firing system can do the job.

Serbia delivered Russian-made modernized T-55 tanks to Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, (BM) – Islamabad received the first batch of modernized T-55 tanks from Belgrade, learned BulgarianMilitary.com citing the Serbian portal Borbeni Effektivi.

Referring to Pakistani sources and Twitter publications, the publication claims that Islamabad ordered from Serbia 282 modernized tanks of this type. The first batch of military vehicles has already been sent to Pakistan.

The modernization of the old model of tanks (T-55) is carried out by the Serbian company SDPR. In the process of modernization, the Serbian “fifty-five” get modern protection of the case, a full package of electronic equipment and an enhanced engine.

After major refinement, the legendary main Soviet tank essentially turns into a modern combat vehicle, equipped with the latest military equipment.

T-54/T-55 series

The T-54 and T-55 tanks are a series of Soviet main battle tanks introduced in the years following the Second World War. The first T-54 prototype was completed at Nizhny Tagil by the end of 1945.

Initial production ramp up settled for 1947 at Nizhny Tagil, and 1948 for Kharkiv were halted and curtailed as many problems were uncovered; the T-34-85 still accounted for 88 percent of production through the 1950s.

The T-54 eventually became the main tank for armoured units of the Soviet Army, armies of the Warsaw Pact countries, and many others. T-54s and T-55s have been involved in many of the world’s armed conflicts since the later part of the 20th century.

The T-54/55 series eventually became the most-produced tank in military history. Estimated production numbers for the series range from 86,000 to 100,000.

They were replaced by the T-62, T-64, T-72, T-80 and T-90 tanks in the Soviet and Russian armies, but remain in use by up to 50 other armies worldwide, some having received sophisticated retrofitting.

Serbia Sold 282 Modernized T-55 Tanks To Pakistan
The Ministry of Defence of Serbia sold 282 T-55 tanks to Pakistan Army, which were from the arsenal marked as an obsolete equipment, Serbian Daily ‘Blic’ reported. The deal was agreed at the Arms Fair in Belgrade, and the contract of purchase, worth tens of millions of dollars, will be signed next week. A source from the Army told the daily that this contract is very important for the Serbian Army. “The tanks, which had to be sold as obsolete equipment, will be modernized and sold to Pakistanis. Modernization will increase T-55 value many times. The deal was made in great secrecy because it is a contract worth tens of millions of dollars. An agreement in principle was reached in person with Pakistani Minister of Defense Industry,” said the source. ‘Blic’ findings were indirectly confirmed by the Chief of the Defence Technology in the Ministry of Defence, Major General Bojan Zrnic. “It is true that there was an agreement in principle for the sale of 282 tanks from the arsenal of retired and obsolete military equipment, but I do not want to talk about with which country and the army this deal was made. It would not be appropriate because the contract has not been signed. What can I say is that the offer is extremely favorable for the Army of Serbia as the tanks will not be sold in its current state, they will be modernized first. This task will be entrusted to our defense industry,” says General Zrnic. He added that the money from the deal will go into the budget for new weapons.
