The Rajasthan police on Monday arrested a Pakistani spy for sharing sensitive information with Pakistan's intelligence authorities regarding the Indian Air Force's recently-held "Iron Fist" exercise.

In a joint operation, the Rajasthan Police's Special Branch (Jaipur) and the CID (Jodhpur zone) arrested Sumar Khan near the Chandhan field firing range of the Indian Air Force, where just two days ago (Friday), the country's top political and military leadership was present to witness the IAF's weapons demonstration exercise, "Iron Fist".

"Iron Fist", the IAF's first-ever, day-night exercise, was witnessed by President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Defence Minister A. K. Antony, Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Chief of Air Staff N. A. K. Browne and Chief of Naval Staff D. K. Joshi, besides the military attachés of several countries.

Sumar Khan was found to be providing sensitive information to Pakistan's Financial Monitoring Unit (FIU), intelligence authorities said.

Khan was arrested under Section 3 and 3/9 of the Official Secrets Act and presented in an ACJM court in Jaipur, which sent him to an eight-day police remand, during which he will be quizzed by State and Central intelligence authorities at the Central Interrogation Centre, Jaipur.

"Sumar Khan was providing Pakistani intelligence with information regarding military activities happening at the Chandhan field firing range, Lathi and Pokharan," said Dalpat Singh Dinkar, Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence). "He used several different mobile phone numbers and used to share strategically important information related to the country's security with his Pakistani Handling Officer via coded text messages," said Mr. Dinkar.

Alleged spy accused of sharing 'Iron Fist' info with Pakistan

Jodhpur: Barely two days after the conclusion of Indian Air Force's air exercise 'Iron Fist' in Pokhran, a suspected spy has been caught passing information of the war games to an ISI operative in Pakistan.

Sumer Khan (34), a computer expert, was taken into custody by army intelligence from his house in Pokhran on Sunday and was being grilled by security agencies, SP Jaisalmer Pankaj Kumar Chaudhary said on Monday.

Intelligence sources said that Mr Sumer was sharing information of the IAF's exercise with his maternal uncle in Rahim Yar Khan in Pakistan for the past few days. His uncle has been working for Inter-Services Intelligence for the last few years, they said.

Mr Sumer is currently under the custody of the Joint Interrogation Cell in Jaipur where the security agencies are questioning him.

The sources said he was caught after his calls to Pakistan were intercepted by the army intelligence and Intelligence Bureau.

They claimed that Mr Sumer had been working for his uncle for the past two years and had been sharing vital information related to all the exercises, which have taken place in the region in the past two years besides the various defence installations in the region.

Following interception of his calls to Pakistan, he was caught from his home in Pokhran on Sunday morning.

A 10th class passout, Mr Sumer is an expert in computers and would talk to his uncle over phone in code words.

He would frequently travel to Pakistan and is believed to have passed on maps and other documents pertaining to defence structure in the western sector.

Indians with Paki relatives should be looked at with utmost suspicion. This should apply equally to Sania Mirza and ajtr of DFI.
We can not afford to trust a person who deals with a Paki in any manner. As ISI always targets such people & use them against us. To me it seems Aman Ki Tamasha may be a sponsored program by ISI only in order to facilitate it's recruitment even in high society circles.

Those who are so keen to have relations with the people living in Pakistan should be given the choice either to go to Pakistan or have no relation with any Paki & live there happily with their so called relatives.

Why don't I see you put national interests in front on the Lankan issue? Why do you talk of seceding on that issue?

The news says he passed "strategically important information" about the exercise. What was it that his spy saw that the rest of us didn't see on national TV?

What is the national interest? Letting Sri lankans kill Tamils (seeing them as Indian settlers) heinously ? That way we will sure uplift and hold national interest up and right by projecting how much we care of Indian tag!

How carelessly srilankan Navy kills our fishermen speaks a volume about how much gains we have made with national interest.

When a foreigner says this, i hate, but how easily they aim shoot and kill our fishermen under Indian flag shows how much they care of us as Indians.

Last time i checked Discovery Channel documentary, i was confronted with one incident (time before LTTE took to prominence) about Sinhalese stopping Tamils elected members from entering into their assembly. Oh yeah creditably of discovery channel, what about many of us not putting our foot there.

**** OT hence posted in relevant thread as well.
