Blackout nation : Pak running out of gas and oil

Pakistan is heading for a major power crisis as there are shortages of natural gas supply at home and friendly countries have refused to extend any more credit for petroleum imports from abroad.Pakistan had asked Kuwait to extend its credit terms from two months to six months while a request was made to Saudi Arabia to it extend its credit facility to a year.

Kuwait steps back
But neither country has responded positively to the proposals said a report in the daily Express Tribune on Monday. The problem with procuring oil imports is that state-owned oil distributor, Pakistan State Oil, owes its creditors over Pakistani Rs 200 billion in debts, say economists. "This is a problem of circular debt. The consumers don't pay the power companies which in turn don't pay the oil companies.

Natural gas thins
As the country looks for other means to finance its oil imports, there is a shortage of natural gas at home. Local production of natural gas has been outstripped by supply with the result that there is phased load management in the winters.
"This is a temporary situation and we are making all efforts for this to be avoided in coming years," prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani told reporters on Sunday.

In the past, natural gas would compensate for oil as fuel. But lines at CNG stations, where gas is supplied to vehicles on alternate days, are growing longer. Earlier this month, natural gas rates were raised by over 30% so that the
price was brought at par with petroleum products. A proposed gas pipeline from Iran has been stalled by US sanctions.

Pakistan needs a revolution if it has to survive. The people have to turn against their Army and Polity who take maximum funds from their country's earnings.

For that to happen, Pakis have to shed their terrorist mentality and shut down their Jihadi graduating Universities, which I do not see as a possibility in the near term.

We were bogged down by our socialist policies not because of diversion of 30% of GDP to our Army like it has been happening in Pakistan.

The present problem in Pakistan is because of too big Army, bad security situation, high political corruption and lack of revenue earning streams.

its like they are in a fix....if they shut down the terrorist activities then there will be a civil war initiated by the terrorist, if they don't then they are anyways screwed.

I wonder if there is any leader in this time of crisis who can bring Pak out of this ugly debacle.

I read somewhere Musharraf is returning to Pak...i would say perfect timing for him....

it is screw up country, those generals in stead of buying toys and making bomb, should have learn economics. Now time to eat, nukes and military toys is round the corner.

in desperation they will try to sell their bombs or will attack India. We need to be careful.

Pak is in civl war anyway, about 35,000 already killed and daily bomb blasts, drone attacks, attacks on army etc etc.
.
That civil war started many years ago when Pak govt was submitting to terrorists by having peace deals and US intervened and FORCED pakis to kill the terrorists instead of doing peace deals.

I think they will sell their bombs in the open market to terrorist.....or they will provide their nuclear technology to a country in need.
