Re: School curricula: "Hate content in pakistan's textbooks"

LAHORE:
Hate content in textbooks used in the Punjab has increased from '45 lines in 2009 to 122 in 2012', a content analysis report published by the National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP) said on Thursday. The report titled Education or Promotion of Hatred was distributed at a conference, Biases in Textbooks and Education Policy, organised by the NCJP on Thursday.
The study examined 22 textbooks for the academic year 2012-13 in the Punjab and Sindh from classes 1 to 10.
The report says that one of the 30 chapters in the general knowledge textbooks for class 1 has content advocating intolerance. It says there has been a 'marked increase' in hate content in the curricula of classes 7 to 10.
In 2009-2011, it says, 12 chapters in various textbooks at these levels contained hate material. The number of such chapters has increased to 33.
As many as seven lessons with hate content are part of the 8th class Urdu curriculum for 2012-2013, compared to none in 2009, it says. It also says said that the number of such lessons in the Pakistan studies textbooks for classes 9 and 10 had increased to three in 2012 from none in 2009. It says that hate lessons that were part of the class 6 social studies and class 7 Islamiat books in 2009 had been excluded from the 2012 curricula.
Speaking at the launch Dr Mehdi Hasan, the School of Media and Communication dean at the Beaconhouse National University, said Muslims posed a greater danger to their fellow Muslims then to non Muslims in Pakistan.
He said, seminaries, where less than 4 per cent of the Pakistani children studied in Pakistan, did not pose a greater threat than schools, where hate material was being taught to students as young as to be in class 1.
He said, "Teaching students that a certain religion teaches 'bad things' is not just a violation of human rights but also a severe ethical violation."
Dr Hasan said that a religious state was not a democratic state. He said that Pakistan had been established through a democratic process.
Wajahat Masood, an assistant professor at BNU, said future generations will likely judge the present as 'sub-human and insensitive'.
He said hate content and distortion of history was evident in curricula as well as in Pakistani literature. Masood said that sectarian and religious discrimination should be recognised as 'vulgar' and discouraged.
Irfan Mufti, deputy director at the South Asia Partnership Pakistan, said that hate content in school syllabi spoke volume of an intolerant society.
"Hate content will turn our children into intolerant individuals," he warned.
Dr Baela Raza Jamil, director of programmes at the Idara-i-Taleem-O-Aagahi highlighted the Compulsory Education Act that was passed recently by the Senate for Islamabad. She said the Act had failed to mention religion as a reason for which no discrimination would be allowed in provision of education.
'She said after the devolution of powers to the provinces, each province was responsible for regulating its curricula.
Dr AH Nayyar, visiting professor at the Lahore University of Management Sciences, regretted that many such reports had been issued previously, but the matters had become worse instead of improving.
NCJP Executive Director Peter Jacob regretted that textbooks were being used to promote hatred in the country.
"Religious discrimination cannot be eliminated unless people working for it are demotivated," he said.

Hate content against Hindus, Sikhs, Christians in Pak textbooks increases manifold

LAHORE: At a time when Pakistan is plagued by terrorism, its official academia has been unable to stop the inclusion of hate material targeting Hindus, Christians and Sikhs and fanning sectarian hatred in school curriculum.

This hate material included in textbooks being used in Punjab and Sindh provinces mainly targets the country's religious minorities - Hindus, Christians and Sikhs - and India and Westerners, says the NGO National Commission for Justice and Peace.

"The latest textbooks have more hate content than those written previously," the NGO said in a statement.

According to a content analysis of books published by the Punjab and Sindh textbook boards that was done by the NCJP, the hate content has increased manifold with the passage of time.

"Many textbooks that had no hate material in their earlier versions, now carry such material in Punjab and Sindh provinces. The issue of religious intolerance should be discussed openly and that must lead to some action to save younger students from such influences at the outset," the NCJP said in a report entitled "Education or Fanning Hate".

The report said there were 45 lines containing hate material in books published in Punjab during 2009-11, and the figure increased to 122 lines this year.

The textbooks for Urdu and Pakistan Studies for Classes VII, VIII, IX and X were found to be the "most affected", as hate material increased from 15 lines to 86 lines.

In all, 22 lessons in the current curriculum for primary and secondary schools have hate content, the report said.

Rights and civil society groups have often blamed such contents in textbooks for fanning sectarian hatred and animosity towards countries like India.

In 2009, Urdu textbooks for Classes IX and X, the Pakistan Studies text book for Class IX, the history text book for Class VI and the social studies text book for Class VIII had no hate content but the latest versions of these books have up to four lessons that contain such material.

The old Urdu text book for Class VIII had one such lesson but the new edition has three lessons.

Re: Hate content against Hindus, Sikhs in Pak text books increases manifold

The raison d'etre for Pakistanis is hatred of India. You can see this confusion among Pakistani soldiers when fighting Taliban. They are equipped to fight kafir India but not fellow muslim Taliban. That's why they surrender in hordes and get beheaded by Taliban. There is no conviction among the soldiers to see Taliban as enemy and fight them. That's one of the reason there are so many Armed forces insiders helping Taliban in attacking Naval Base, Air Base, GHQ, etc.

Re: School curricula: "Hate content in pakistan's textbooks"

I remember debating with few shameless posters from our neighbouring country denying about hate material being taught in their books two years back.

To deny with straight face first is their trait, they all bet on short memories of others assuming by the passing time their sins will be cloaked before can they mount new insults on others. Time is a great healer and face saver for Pakistan.

Re: The ideology of thought control in Pakistan

every word of this post is true.............i work and live in saudi arabia....i see common pakistanis every walk of life here.........they hate india.......some of them claim their borders are up to hyderabad in south and up to patna in east.........even educated class who are worst threat because they know the truth and do nothing about it........my fellow indians........eternal vigilance price of peace...............i also mention new threat is bangladeshis................they too hate india....every second bangaldeshis thinks that muslims are attacked every day in india.........awake......we must keep watch...always..........thousands of banglas are moveing to deep south of india.... especially hyderabad and other towns in south.......south of india is always characterized as tolerant towards settlers unlike north india.

we must assure and take in to confidence our muslim brothers..........make them realize they have equal role to play in safety and security of india..........indeed there are forces working within india and abroad to isolate indian muslims from main stream and create unrest...so india will not grow as a strong nation in the region.........there are many countries who contribute directly and indirectly for this purpose...... pakistan is only a front nation used by others...........there is a anti india group in every powerful nation on the globe....we can trust nobody........

my brothers i live in a very volatile region......where human rights and democratic rights of an individual are alien....concepts......... i live in a place how state uses religion for its survival.................standing here i look at india......my god india is a wonder...it still puzzles me how a country with heterogeneity at every level and aspect of national fabric surviving as a nation ???......it s just miracle.........it is worlds greatest wonder..............we must protect our selves......and guard this great nation and great wonder...with all our energies........we must organize and expose sinister plans of other nations on india............

Re: Pakistan promotes hatred and religious intolerance through textboo

It is a common thing even in certain islamic countries.

Palestinian kids are openly taught to hate Jews and kill them.

Some UK institutions recently were found to be teaching hatred against non-Muslims to young Muslim children.

That fcking mullah here (forgot his name) was inciting hatred against us Buddhists here in India (wonder how would the muslim countries feel if some non-muslims incited hatred against local religion in Saudi Arabia).

Now this.

I am beginning to see a common pattern of organized hatred being preached.
