Turkish plans to sell 30 ATAK helicopters to Pakistan for $1.5 billion, a deal lauded by the government as the country’s single biggest export order, is being threatened by a diplomatic crisis with the United States, Hurriyet newspaper reported.

The agreement will be delayed unless Turkey gets export permission from the U.S. Department of Defense by November, Hurriyet’s Eray Gorgulu wrote citing unidentified sources in the defence industry. Washington holds a veto over exports of the aircraft due to the helicopters’ engines.

The United States imposed sanctions on Turkey this week for its failure to release U.S. pastor Andrew Brunson and other Americans from custody on terrorism charges. The U.S. government is also considering excluding Turkey from a preferential duty-free trade deal and Congress may block the sale of F-35 jet fighters to the country.

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) owns the rights to the whole platform of the T129 ATAK helicopter, based on the Agusta A129, originally designed and produced by Italian firm Agusta. But the United States holds an export veto because TAI produces the helicopter’s LHTEC CTS800-4N engines under license.

Turkish have their indigenous helicopter engines including for T-129 Atak attack helicopter and it will be delivered in one.

Pakistan will start receiving #T129 B from this year. At least Three air frames are finished in #TAI assumbly line. Pak Army Aviation is acquiring 30 #T129 units initially (10 B1+ 10 B2 + 10 B3) Order may increase upto 60 units. (30 ATAK2?)

They paid money through soft loan. Contract of these helicopters inked in 2017.

Bdw this heli is from Augusta Westland........lch and this heli in neck to neck....

It's a licensed version of an functional Italian helicopter. Turkey is more air then any substance. Lch is designed for high altitude warfare so nothing can beat it at heights. On the sea level things may be more equal .

Yet again lch is much more affordable. Turkey has to pay license fee as well as for imported content. Iirc Pakistan paid 1.5 billion for 30 helicopter that equals to 50 million per helicopter. While lch cost to India under 25 Million even as it is under limited series production.

Pakistan could have selected Chinese Z-10 attack helicopter instead of T-129 atak helicopter.

Z-10's some insufficiencies were found after one year's evaluation and some real combat experience by PA under Pakistan battle field condition and request.. . then here comes Z-10ME for the international market.

1. more powerful latest varient of WZ-9 engine with dust separator

2. in Pakistan's normal CT combat operation, PA uses the gun a lot to suppress hostile target. in PLA ground force's Typical battle scenario and Assumptions, the ATGM is the main weapon. the 23mm gun ammo magazine of Z-10ME was redesigned and relocated with a large one...

3. more armor protection with full set EW suit(MAW,RWR,LWR etc...).

Soft loan or not, saalon ke paas khane ko kuch nahin aur attack helicopters chahiye!! Tomatoes are Rs 250 a kg and lemons nearly Rs 200 per kg!! Lol! And the prices are increasing exponentially every day. But the Paki Army needs these toys anyway as there's lots of slush money that comes with the deal.

How delusional are you? Pakistan's defence budget is around $7b with a CAPEX of maybe $3b and you think you're going to get 150 brand new attack helicopters Totally >$3.5 BILLION usd?

Grow up pal.

Now with the shrinkage of PKR, Pakistanis armed forces' Purchasing power has reduced to 2/3.
With PKR hitting 200, it will reduced to half.

The sale of Turkish-made T129 ATAK helicopter gunships to Pakistan has hit a stumbling block as no engines have been found for the gunships after the United States failed to issue the permit required for their delivery, communist news site SoL reported on Wednesday.

Turkey and Pakistan signed a $1.5 billion deal for the Turkish-made helicopter gunships on July 13, 2018. The delivery date of the first helicopter was pushed back after the U.S. Department of Defence last year refused to issue the Turkish company with an export license for the delivery of the gunships’ CTS800 engines.

Producers in France and Poland are being considered as potential suppliers of the engine, according to Hürriyet newspaper.
