Pakistan-China to cooperate in field of space-technology under CPEC
ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has proposed space-technology cooperation between Pakistan and China under the economic corridor project.
He made the proposal at the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) forum that was held this week at the Chinese city of Kramay in Xinjiang region. On his plea, the proposal was formally included in the historic Karmay’s declaration which was later unanimously adopted at the end of forum’s two-day deliberations.
In his brief address at the concluding session, he said that bilateral cooperation in the field of space-technology will take the Pak-China relations to new heights. He emphasised that both the countries should launch joint space mission program comprising their astronauts as “this is the strength of the CPEC to increase more connectivity between the two friendly countries. It will shape up the future destiny of both the nations through communication linkages,” he said.
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong also attended the forum and termed the meeting as highly successful in promoting understanding among the relevant stake-holders for implementing CPEC- a fate-changing project and to further deepening the Sino-Pak strategic partnership, particularly in the field of energy and communication.
FWO Director General Major General Muhammad Afzal, FWO Engineer-in-Chief Khalid Asghar, Quartermaster General Major General Javed Mehmood Bukhari, NLC Director General Major General Muhstaq Ahmed Faisal were also present on the occasion. It was decided that forum will work as a permanent platform and meet annually to review the project in a broader prospect, ensuring its implementation in letter and spirit.
Just before the passage of the Karamay’s declaration senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed and from Chinese side member NPC standing committee Madam Baige Zaho, NPC vice chairman foreign affairs committee gave a detailed presentation on the achievements made during the two-day forum, participated by over 300 officials, business and public figures.
They recalled that the ancient Silk Road is the shared cultural heritage and historical wealth of countries along the Road that embodies the spirit of peace and cooperation, openness and mutual benefit. The CPEC consists of an integral part of the broad consensus reached between respective leaders during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s landmark visit to Pakistan in April 2015.
The declaration stressed the principle of “Jointly building through consultation to meet the interests of all stake-holders. Concerted efforts should be made to achieve major goals in policy coordination, facilities connectivity, unimpeded trade, and financial integration aiming at promoting the common development of both countries and even the entire region.
Both sides called for strengthening capacity-building, promoting scientific research and innovation and consolidating people-to-people exchanges. They will vigorously promote communication and mutual learning in education, culture, tourism, media and sports fields. “We attach great importance to a wide participation of the community and the public, particularly women and the youth, aiming at promoting mutual understanding and consolidating public opinion, so that pass on the torch of China-Pakistan friendship from generation to generation,” the declaration said.
The two sides also decided to form CPEC's media form to promote awareness about this gigantic project. Pakistani journalist Hafiz Tahir Khalil was appointed convener of the form while senator Mushahid Hussain will act as its patron-in-chief.
