If this is taken at face value then Pakistan is the 5th most populous country in the word overtaking Brazil. Also see the massive increase in populations of Khyber and Balochistan. The stage might be setting up for tribal wars in the future.

Africa will overtake us in 20-30 years . Also we might achieve population stabilization by 2045 as our fertility rate is falling with record speed .

We have enough land the more important thing is how we manage this. We need more big cities right now Mumbai Delhi are too big but Bhopal , kanpur etc are quite small. We need many cities with population of 50-70 lakh each .

If we could achieve that we can have a balanced and prosperous urbanization.

70% of our population is still in villages . That means it's quite scattered. Urbanization will help using land resources more optimally.

Indian ocean is too big . We need to build many huge artificial islands in the Indian ocean and develop them on the lines of Singapore. They will relieve population pressure on our big coastal cities , act as tourists destination , trade transit hub , and also as Indian Navy , airforce outpost.

If we consider next 20-30 years....

Better start making islands now at smaller scale so that when the time comes, we have proper engineering experience is developed locally for building bigger islands.

Other option is to extend coastline by a kilometre or two into shallow waters.

All this being said, our per capita GDP and population growth is still worrying. We must concentrate on UP, Bihar, West Bengal and other such high birth rate states ASAP, and get the birth rates down to 1.7-2.0 like how it is in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, etc. This will result in our population peaking at 1.45-1.5 billion and falling from there. A per capita GDP of 1800 USD is still pathetic compared to even most developing countries.

There should be a discussion on how to contain the Paki failure which can be delayed but is inevitable.
