Pakistan : Blast kills 15, injures 56 in Political Rally

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- A blast near a political rally left 15 people dead in a Pakistan tribal region Monday, a local government official said.
The strike occurred in the Kurram district, Riaz Khan said, and also wounded at least 56 people. Khan said the blast was detonated remotely and 10 kilograms of explosives were used.

The explosion occurred during a rally staged by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal Ur Rehman group, a right-wing religious party with sympathies for the militant Taliban movement. The incident occurred as Pakistanis prepare to go to the polls Saturday for national elections.Jan Achakzai, a spokesman for the group, said more than 2,000 people were attending the rally. He said 15 people died and more than 50 injured. Two candidates received minor injuries, he said.

"We will continue our politics of peace and reconciliation in Pakistan's tribal region despite these cowards' attacks," Achakzai said.
Violence has marred the run-up to the elections. The anti-Taliban Awami National Party and the Muttahida Quami Movement and their personnel also have been targeted recently.

Death toll is 25+ and it was a suicide bomber:

Suicide bomber kills 25 at Pakistan election rally.

PESHAWAR, Pakistan | Mon May 6, 2013 11:51am EDT
(Reuters) - A suicide bomber targeted an election rally organized by a religious party in Pakistan on Monday, killing 25 people, officials said.

The attack at a gathering of members of the Jamiat Ulema-e- Islam religious party wounded 65 people, they said.

Pakistan's Taliban claimed responsibility for the bombing.

The polls mark the first time that an election is being held to decide on a transition between civilian governments in Pakistan, a strategic U.S. ally. Taliban attacks have marred the election, with some candidates afraid to campaign.

Since April, the radical Islamist group has killed more than 90 people in attacks on three major political parties, preventing many of their most prominent candidates from openly campaigning.

But until now the Taliban had targeted secular parties in its bid to undermine the May 11 general election, which it regards as un-Islamic.

The attack in the Kurram region, an ethnic Pashtun area near the Afghan border, will raise questions about whether the Taliban have expanded their campaign beyond secular parties.

Hospital administrator Inayatullah Khan said 25 people were killed in the blast and the death toll could rise because some victims were critically injured.

The military has ruled Pakistan for more than half of its 66-year history, either through coups or from behind the scenes.

It should be noted that Kurram region is unique in FATA due to its big Shia population, which may have contributed to the attack.

Do that Sunni Pashtuns believes Tribal Shia groups like Turri and Bangash that populate Kurram are Pashtuns ?
And I believe there was a ceasefire brokered a few years back, has that been rescinded ?
