Indian coast guard vessels should be armed enough to deal with pak navy
In a decade Indian cost guard will grow to be a major naval force itself . Pakistan navy won't/ can't grow much . So yes Indian cost guard will become quite a challenge for pak navy

This statement deserves some scrutiny as ICG has really grown in recent years and we should know the capabilities they bring. ICG has already grown in size to be large across all classes of ships it operates. There is a healthy pipeline of 105m OPVs in the modern Samarth class. On other hand, Pak Navy is a rather small naval force, disproportionately so compared to PA and PAF.

However, ICG cannot 'take on' Pak Navy in an offensive role as the latter has ships armed with weaponary (eg: missiles), platforms (eg: submarines) and sensors (eg: radars) to destroy ICG ships.

ICG will do well to complement the IN in war though and that is where they can play a major role;

01. Coastal defence against intruding small craft.
02. Monitoring of sea from shore based sensors.
03. Harbour patrol and defence
04. Counter any action by Pak Marines in Sir Creek and nearby areas.
05. Protect merchant shipping from jehadis at sea
06. Monitor areas around offshore oil installations
07. Combat search and rescue
08. Hunt and destroy enemy merchant shipping
09. Assist Navy to land amphib troops (thanks to Hovercraft)

From a weaponry point of view, some of the ships are equipped with a 76mm cannon - which is quite good, but ICG will need a lot of luck to kill a PN ship with it. I like the 40 mm bofors as well.... perhaps it can be employed for a basic air defence duty. A contest between ICG and Pak Marines and SSGN would certainly be interesting.

Now, if the Babur-3 was indeed launched from a SSK belonging to the PN—and the PN has only three Agosta 90B and two Agosta 70B SSKs all of which are equipped with the THALES-supplied SUBTICS combat management system—then the fire-control system servers required for computing and transmitting the firing solution for/to the encapsulated Babur-3 would have to be integrated with the SUBTICS and the 533mm torpedo launch-tubes. This is an impossible task, given the fact that THALES does not share the operating source-codes of thre SUBTICS’ fire-control algorithms with anyone.

Secondly, for the Babur-3 to have been fired from anywhere in the IOR and for the SLCM to reach Baluchistan, NOTAMs would have had to be issued at least 10 days in advance for clearly identifying the flight-path trajectory and cruising altitude for both airmen and merchant mariners. This was NOT done.

Thirdly, as the video-clip shows, the test-firing was initiated from a submerged vehicle in calm waters (i.e. shallow waters), following which the SLCM cruised over a vast landmass, meaning the Babur-3’s entire flightpath was well within Pakistan’s territorial; waters and airspace. Lastly, the PN does not possess any naval vessel equipped with long-range precision-tracking radars, which is a prerequisite for any navy that is involved in test-firing land-attack cruise missiles from locations in the deep seas. Therefore, all this brings us to only one conceivable conclusion:

The test-firing was initiated from a submerged Type 093 Shang-class SSN (that had possibly left its homeport at Yulin in Hainan Island in the third week of December 2016) located well inside Pakistan’s territorial waters, and the SLCM fired was of 100% Chinese origin. And the video-clip of the test-firing was obviously edited and spliced to give the impression that the Babur-3 followed a text-book flightpath over land. This alleged westward flightpath first along Pakistan’s coastline and then into western Balochistan was showcased to give the impression that the flightpath was ideal for the NESCOM’s missile trajectory-tracking sensors located at theSonmiani Flight Test Range in Sindh province. All this also ties in well with the Naval Strategic Force Command’s inauguration in 2012, and the commissioning of a VLF communications facility—PNS Hameed—onNovember 15, 2016.

PN has stood up a Naval Air Station

https://www.pakistantoday.com.pk/2017/05/25/turbat-naval-facility-to-boost-pns-capability-asif/

Operationalization Ceremony of Naval Air Station was held at PNS SIDDIQ, in Turbat, Balochistan, on Thursday. Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif was the chief guest on the occasion. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah was also present on the occasion. Upon his arrival, the chief guest was warmly received by chief of the naval staff.

Khawaja Asif, during his address, highlighted that this major naval facility would boost Pakistan Navy’s capability for the defence of motherland, enhancing the naval power over the Arabian Sea and especially its strategic reach westwards. He said that the dual utilization of Turbat Naval Air Station would accrue dividends both for the maritime defence and in the economic sector by yielding best value for money.

The minister further added that the development of Turbat Naval Air Station would definitely provide a vital link for air transportation and as a base for naval operations besides providing required support to CPEC project. With the realisation of intra-regional connectivity, Balochistan would act as a gateway to Pakistan.

He also lauded strenuous efforts of Pakistan Navy for operational pursuits and for contribution towards socio-economic uplift of the area by providing quality education, healthcare facilities and employment opportunities for the local populace. He also assured all out support of the government to strengthen Pakistan Navy – “the Guardian of the Sea” to discharge onerous responsibilities in the most befitting and efficient manner.

Earlier in his welcome address, Coast Commander Rear Admiral Abdul Aleem highlighted strategic and economic importance of Turbat Naval Air Station. He also underlined Pakistan Navy’s efforts in providing quality education, healthcare and employment to the people of Balochistan in general and the people of Turbat in particular.

The operationalisation of newly-developed naval air station in Turbat would provide Pakistan Navy with the much needed depth, flexibility and reach to counter emerging challenges of deterring terrorism at sea, curbing piracy and carrying out maritime security operations. The new runway has been constructed as per modern standards and it will also have the capability to handle heavier aircrafts, not only for Pakistan Navy but also of sister services and civil airlines. The very fact that his runway planned to be used by private sector as well, will surely boost economic activities in the region.

During the ceremony, Pakistan Navy P3C Aircraft, Z9EC and Sea King helicopters participated in an impressive fly past. The ceremony was attended by a large number of PN, military and local civil dignitaries.

Pak Navy & KSEW's good run continues

http://navaltoday.com/2017/06/13/pakistan-orders-offshore-patrol-vessel-from-damen/

Pakistan’s defense ministry has signed a contract with Dutch ship designer Damen for the acquisition of a locally-built offshore patrol vessel (OPV).

The contract was signed on June 12 during an event attended by navy and company representatives and Dutch ambassador to Pakistan Jeannette Seppen.

According to the ministry of defense, the OPV will be built at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Ltd..

The ministry did not specify the type of OPV that will be built, but said the vessel will have a displacement of 1900 tons (approx), and an overall length of 90 meters.

These specifications point to Damen’s OPV 1800. While slightly below the Pakistani specification measuring 83 meters in legth and displacing 1,800 tons, the OPV 1800 has a stated top speed of 22 knots which matches that from specifications.

Pakistan further said the vessel is suited for anti surface, anti air operations, maritime security operations (MSO), day & night helicopter operations, combat search and rescue (CSAR) and surveillance and intelligence gathering.
