The Public was led to believe that the Army would not allow a repeat of Kargil to take place, irrespective of the Government of the day. Adequate measures were supposed to have been put in place...wat happened?

Pakistan attempting a second Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir?

It may be recalled that in May1999, Pakistani troops and militants were found to have occupied abandoned Indian Army posts in Kargil by shepherds. That infiltration had taken place in the winter of 1998-99.

When the Kargil war took place, the man in power in Pakistan was the same Sharif, and the Army was led by General Pervez Musharraf. The Kargil intrusion too was discovered just months after the then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had gone to Lahore on a ''peace bus.
I may be wrong but, I still believe, that this was deliberately allowed by IA.

9 days on, army still battles Pak infiltrators - India - DNA

According to military intelligence, the Pakistani army has organised a training camp for BAT members opposite the Mendhar sector in their side of the LoC. The BAT comprises trained commandos of Pakistan's Special Service Group(SSG) and militants of LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammad.

BAT troops had attacked Mendhar sector in January and beheaded two soldiers and had killed five soldiers in Poonch. At present, there are 42 training camps in PoK; and 22 are close to the LoC.

Intelligence reports say BAT troops are being trained to kidnap soldiers instead of killing them. "They will kidnap and take Indian soldiers to their side and present them before the world community saying the soldiers had intruded into their territory," an army source said.
Now this is quite serious matter. I know it would be very dangerous but nevertheless, I wish our troops can capture some of the enemy alive instead of getting captured.

Any reason for a certain Musharraf intimating to his army prodigy to make the civilian government look foolish. And make his old nemesis get a message to not mess with him.

Also any reason to make the authority of nawaz suffer and regain Pakistan army pride and image makeover (the civilians vs army in Pakistan)

The danger with this is that they would need a big event to get such a impact with world attention focus.

Another angle is to motivate the terrorists to show them how daring the Pakistanis are. To drive up membership.

Another is Pakistan feeling weak and resulting in such mindless actions.

I say do some collateral damage on the other side near the border where action is happening and say that it was designed to kill the terrorists that came over. How to tell the difference they dress up similar clothes now.

Proportional self defence. They came we saw we conquered.

This gives a good insight into the Tangos minds of Sep attack on an Armour unit in Jammu ..

Note the arm and ammunition, And handcuff ?, Now why would they bring handcuff ..

Day 10 of huge LoC encounter, Pakistan army denies links

The Pakistan army has denied that it is involved with a massive infiltration attempt in Kashmir. The encounter in the Kupwara area is now in its 10th day; yesterday, the Indian army said that Pakistani troops might be involved.

"No such thing happened at all. This is a blatant lie. We totally deny this baseless allegation," a Pakistani military spokesperson told PTI.

According to sources, sporadic firing is still on in the Keran sector between the Indian army and terrorists, who have been restricted to an area of around one square km. The army's operation is its final stages, the sources added.

The Indian army says five of its soldiers have been injured and 12 intruders have been killed, though none of their bodies have been found.

As usual, the blatant denial of PA. Unless we get hold of some bodies or capture someone alive PA will keep repeating this.

Maybe, they must have stolen them from the Police Station which they attacked. Or else, this must have been an elaborate plan to masquerade as Indian Police.

BTW, are there any markings on the handcuffs?

i believe its the tactic been used by pak army as now there is need for a new king or nawab of pakistan and all the contenders needs to prove who is best.
2nd as the prime minister of this nawab one u know is unable to provide basic needs to slaves of PA nawabs/army chiefs nor is able to prevent attacks from gangs which it used against other free nation in past, so something needed to be done to divert people attention from real issues.

War like situation along LoC: Over 300 Indian Para shooters rushed to Keran Sector

War like situation along LoC: Over 300 Indian Para shooters rushed to Keran Sector

Injured trooper succumbed to injuries

Srinagar: War like situation has erupted along LoC as more than 300 Indian PARA shooters were called in to combat the militants who have allegedly occupied three Indian Observation Posts near Line of Control (LoC) in Keran Sector of North Kashmir's Kupwara district. The shooters have cordoned off the area from all sides so as to block any kind of supply to infiltrated militants.

Sources identified the two observation posts out of three which are allegedly occupied by militants, as Khokri and Kullar posts. They also identified the posts from Pakistani side which are opposite to Indian posts as Biswal and Ahithana posts.

Sources told GNS that a joint team of Army's counter insurgency units 3/3 GR, 15 RR, 16 GR and 5 ASSAM are conducting intense searches of the densely forested areas of Shalabhutoo and Naranad forests against a group of infiltrators.

Additional reinforcement of about 300 to 400 personnel of 9 -Para and 4-Para were called from Bandipora, Lolab and Handwara areas who have been rushed to the area to flush out the hiding militants inside the forest area of Shalbhutoo, who, according to sources, managed to sneak into this side last month.

The PARA shooters, according to sources pressed choppers into service in the area to locate the hiding militants who are nearly 2 to 3 kilometers into this side. "During the search operation, Army also used sniffer dogs to locate the militants," sources said.

Official sources told GNS that the operation will be finished in 5 to 7 days as they have surrounded the whole area. "Special troops deployed in the area have blocked all ways for militants to escape and there is no chance of any outside supply to these intruders," sources said, adding that operation is now surely going to be in favor of Army.

Army has also started major combing operations in the adjoining forest areas amid intelligence reports that suggest the hiding of militants in other dense forests.

The militants according to sources were well trained and were using Global Positioning System (GPS) to monitor the situation. Army had earlier claimed to have killed at least 12 -15 unidentified militants in a 10-day long fierce gun-battles. The bodies of these killed militants have been reportedly taken back by intruders from Pakistani side. However, senior Army official said that Pakistani side took advantage of darkness and bad weather and the area was of high altitude which in all ways favored them (militants).

Meanwhile, a rifleman Kiran Gurang of 15 RR who had received two bullets on his neck and back side on Sep 30 succumbed to his injuries on Thursday in Army's 92-Base Hospital here in Srinagar.

The five troopers who were injured in the week long operation have been identified as Havaldar T.B. Roka , rifleman Youg Bahadur, rifleman Tejinder KC, a rifleman Sandir Anva and rifleman Tula Ram. All the injured troopers belong to 3/3 GR and are admitted in Army's 92 Base Hospital here in Srinagar.

Pertinently, on Wednesday, GOC Gurmit Singh said that operation is in progress and retrieval of militant bodies lying in the area is not an issue of importance. He said the focus is to finish the operation without giving casualties. (GNS)

Holed up terrorists have supply line to PoK

In a reminder of Kargil incursion of 1999, around 40 terrorists along with Pakistani special troops are 300-400 metres inside the Indian territory in Keran sector of Kashmir and are getting logistics support through a supply line across the Line of Control.

As the armed engagement entered the 10th day, there was sporadic exchange of fire but no fresh report of any casualty was reported, defence sources in Srinagar said.

Army sources said the infiltration attempt took place when Army's 20 Kumaon battalion was being replaced by the 3/3 Gorkha Rifles unit in the Keran sector.

The terrorists and their suspected Pakistan Army accomplices are holding on to their positions and are understood to have taken refuge in some abandoned old bunkers of the Army, they said.

Giving an update on the armed engagement that entered the 10th day, the Army Headquarters in Delhi said the group of terrorists have been surrounded by the Indian troops on three sides.

However, the group has a supply line from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and are believed to be getting logistical support from there, sources in Delhi said.

Indication to this effect came when 10-12 terrorists joined two days back the group which has already been engaged with the Indian troops, the sources said.

Pakistani troops also fired from a forward post in the Neelam Valley in support of the infiltrating terrorist group on the night of September 26, they said.

Though the Pakistan Army normally resorts to firing on Indian posts to help infiltrating terrorists, the pattern of maintaining a supply line has been seen for the first time since the Kargil conflict of 1999.

That is what I posted, we are back to 2001.
1999 may be?
It has also been observed that the infiltration attempts have increase manifolds ever since new Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took charge in June. "There has been more ceasefire violation, there has been more funding to militants, there has been more bandh call given by separatists after Nawaz Sharif became the Pakistan Prime Minister," the official said.

Keran: The truth behind the biggest infiltration attempt from Pakistan on the LoC since Kargil

Read more at: Keran: The truth behind the biggest infiltration attempt from Pakistan on the LoC since Kargil : Featured, News - India Today

The Indian Army is confronting the biggest infiltration bid since Kargil, near the LoC in Keran Sector of Kupwara district in the Kashmir Valley since 23rd of September.

The big question here is, how did 30 to 40 militants manage to cross the LoC and enter Indian territory?

As per the army sources, in the initial stage the army also got confused as the area is used by bakerwals to graze goats and sheep during summer. In the first look it was assumed by the nearby army check point that these infiltrators were actually nakerwals looking for their animals.

However, it was on the night of September 23 that an Army jawan on one of the posts did a random check and asked one of the supposed bakerwals who he was and what he was doing there. Asked about his whereabouts, the infiltrator started indiscriminate firing on the jawan and ran out when other posts were alerted about the incident.

An Army patrol was then sent in to look into the incident. The patrol met the same kind of resistance from infiltrators, making it amply clear that these were not bakerwals. At this point it had also become clear that the number of inflitrators in Indian territory had increased over the past days.

On 24th September additional troops were rushed to area and the whole Keran sector was cordoned off on all sides.

Additional surveillance equipment was put in place, including AVMs.

Now, these infiltrators are trapped inside the cordon in a deeply forested area and are desperate to move out. However, with the Indian Army ringing them on all sides, escape seems like a bleak possibility.

It is not even clear yet whether their is any shepherd with these infiltrators or not.

Even army sources have confirmed that these infiltrators may also include Pakistan army regulars or members of Border Action Teams, as they have been intercepted asking for help from nearby Pakistani army positions.

Today, on the 10th day of the encounter, there was exchange of fire thrice but it has been observed that these infiltrators are now using their ammunition in such a manner that some divert the Indian Army's attention enabling the rest to sneak away.
