JAMMU: Over 300 militants are waiting at training camps and at launching pads situated along the Line of Control (LoC) to sneak in into the valley before high passes get closed in winters, said director general of police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda here on Friday.
"There are varying numbers (of militants staged on launching pads for infiltrations in J&K). Some guesses have been in the range of 300 (militants)," director general of police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda told reporters on the sidelines of a function.
DGP Khoda further said, "As per intelligence reports there are directions to them to infiltrate in view of the closure of passes, which would happen after a month or two."
"Though there is a decrease of 70 per cent in militancy related incidents in Jammu region as well as decrease in the number of operating militants, yet efforts are being made from across the border and instructions are being given to the militants to engineer infiltrations," DGP said.
Not missing the opportunity to acknowledge the alertness on the border resulting into elimination of several militants, DGP said, "There have been several attempts of infiltration along the border in Kashmir and these are aimed to push more and more militants to this side before passes get closed in coming winters."
However, replying to a query about the number of ultras that have sneaked into the Indian side this year, DGP said, "This can never be confirmed. Our endeavour is if any one sneaks-in, he should be neutralized."
Referring to the situation in Kashmir, he said, "One should not think that militancy is over."
