Thats the point Agni 2 has been inducted in modest numbers . It seems batch tests from 2010 to 2014 were successful. So failure is not acceptable. If a missile is inducted in mass numbers like prithvi, occasional failures are perfectly acceptable. But not for Agni series

Any info what might be number of Agni series missiles inducted so far ..specially the Agni-2 which was tested today ?? Well the way it looks BMs are just last option in a war relying on the for first strike may prove costly ...
No idea bro.Maybe some other members can help you out but generally speaking BM production remain ultra low unlike cruise missile. We should not be surprised if India deployed more than 500 Bharmos.

..................................................
this report says

Sources said the test-firing of the surface-to-surface Agni-II missile, which has a range over 2,000-km, from the Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast flopped within minutes of its launch at about 10.20 am. "The two-stage, solid-fuelled missile was just half a kilometre into its initial flight trajectory when things went awry. The mission had to be aborted," said a source.

If this video is of recent test.

Then TOI report is false. A2 has gone about 20kms in sky.

Wait, these guys were testing A2 in a depressed trajectory, in such a scenario very likely that it will fail. But why in depressed trajectory? What is the sense of testing a 2000km missile for 900km

Probably same reason because of which they have been testing rest of the missiles in depressed trajectory since starting of the year. To avoid international attention !
And yes you can test all technical and operational aspects in depressed trajectory.
BM are more or less like a ball thrown in the air. Maximum distance is at 45 deg angle. Depressed trajectory can either be at lower angle or higher angle.

You don't need to solve Irodov or Krotov for this. Why I didn't join ISRO. :( Because I was greedy.

Hey this missile is not agni 2, it is much shorter and my sense is that it is agni 1P with range of 300-1200km. This was the first test and maybe they wanted to hide this new missile.

We should wait for official reports

Depressed trajectory pros.
1 takes less time to reach your target.
2 useful to evade anti-BM.

This seems to be a new missile for some very special role and they are trying to hide it passing it as Agni 2. My sense is that A2 is already deployed and no longer in production as its role is taken by A4. Nobody tests a 2000km missile at 900km and 2000km missiles dont have such a depressed trajectory

I wonder what is going to happen if we do end up going nuclear ballistic in a war. What is the plan for when (not if) a nuclear missile veers off-course? We cannot just push the self destruct button and stand underneath the explosion to catch the nuke as it falls. How is a possible trajectory failure supposed to be dealt with in actual operational conditions, least we nuke ourselves.
There is a trigger device within the warhead. The device will only starts to work when all the signals received from other system/sensor satisfy the parameters setup before: pressure, height, navigation, etc. If there is one thing goes wrong, the warhead won't explode.

IDRW says that missile from production lot failed. This is absolutely inexcusable and utterly horrifying. How do u expect Modi to start an escalation posture with Pakistan when these ch****DRDO scientists cannot provide tools for the same. Now large raids by IA seem less likely given psychologically we have been exposed. If we cant even ensure these basic minimum standards of quality, let us shut down DRDO and surrender ourselves to Pakiland and China.Utterly pathetic

BDL only assembles missile. DRDO QA is responsible for ensuring robustness of each component which BDL sources. even army QA is involved. Still if u have failure from production lot (missiles which will be launched in actual war), only heavens can save us. I think anyone who had any faith in the system stands completely crumbled. No wonder we have so many moles in our established. No one believes in competence of another. India is a blunder bus moving towards a crash.

they were most probably testing something new which didn't work properly.

There's a self destruct, even ISRO does that to there rockets.
