Noida industrialists to shift to Gujarat

NOIDA: Industrialists in Noida, who had warned Uttar Pradesh's Samajwadi Party government that they would move out if infrastructure was not improved, have now approached the Gujarat government for land to set up their industries in the state.

The Noida Entrepreneurs' Association has written to the Narendra Modi government asking it to provide them plots in Mehsana district so that they could begin industrial operations within two years.

The association says it has taken this step because infrastructure facilities continue to be bad in Uttar Pradesh with no sign of improvement. "Even the big names... like Tata and Maruti have shifted base to Gujarat because the government has built an excellent environment in the state for industrial development," said NEA president Vipin Malhan.

Industrialists in Noida have complained several times in the past about the "lackadaisical attitude" of successive UP governments in meeting basic requirements for the industrial sector to flourish. Primary among their demands have been supply of power round the clock to ensure optimum productivity. "Far from it, government is now mulling hiking power tariffs for industries," said Malhan.

While erratic power supply has cut into the profits of industries in UP, Gujarat has attracted them with lower power tariffs. NEA has requested the Gujarat government to make available to them industrial plots ranging between 1,000 and 5,000 sqm in the Mehsana district at government-approved rates. "If land is provided to us, we will work towards completing all formalities within the next two years to make industries operational immediately thereafter," he added.

Careful Gujarat....developing rapidly is good up to a point, but take care to ensure that there isn't an influx of migrant workers into the state as well crowding and overburdening the city's infrastructure (learn a lesson from Maharashtra). It would be better if Gujarat could subsidize the factories in UP itself as long as the industrialists agreed to relocate the R&D to Gujarat and source components from Gujarat based industries.

Unlike Maharashtra, growth in Gujarat is well spread out. There are migrants in huge numbers already in Gujarat. But we seldom hear of incidents of locals vs migrants. Gujarat would not function without the help of migrant workers. The locals in Gujarat are not interested in unskilled or semi-skilled labour. All of them want to have their own business. The same can be seen with Gujaratis all around the world. They prefer business over service.

Not a good thing in long run perhaps. Gujarat should also start industries that require trained manpower such as electronics.

Gujarat has comparative advantage in other fields like textile, pharma and petro chemicals. Gujarat should first concentrate on these. Now automobiles companies in its ancillaries will come to Gujarat. Let some other state take care of electronics.

"¨"¨"©+1"©Gujjus are very calm and only goal oriented in business. 1/3rd of Mumbai's population is Gujarati. But you won't see any war between Gujarati and Marathi. As both communities are well educated and have well mannered."©"©But I have seen Mumbai very closely. Even Gujjus there say that Mumbai's today's dirty situation is due to U.P.,Bihari bhaiyas. Well, no offense but that's true upto some extent. There's nothing wrong in having migrants if they're only goal oriented like South Indians, some part of North Indians like Punjabis, etc. But U.P., Bihari bhaiyas consider everthing as their Baap Ka Maal...They should be educated and taught manners.
