The inappropriateness of Modi in taking this decision. All he wants is to push the message of women empowerment and do some TN power play. That is why, this is one decision, I cannot agree with.
women empowerment if for public consumption, where a few will latch on to that!! and YAY!!!!
but shes a person of who has proved her mettle.
We have Sushma Swaraj who has done wonderfully well and she is a very seasoned politicians whom even the west approach with caution and after doing their homework very very very well.

This means, the current GOVT knows their people mucho better than the media rand(t)s.

First of all congrats to her but i have my reservations
pro's
1.heard she is a tough negotiator
2.PM & NSA will run the ministry from behind like Narsimha Rao did during 90's economic reforms
Con's
1.My only reservation Libtards & Feminazi's turning the volume up for combative role for women which is not going end well. i'm not patriarchal or something like that .the thing is for women there 100's of other jobs in defence and in the world where female can be boss of their male colleagues like in DRDO or ISRO but please leave the combat role to the Men. armed forces are there for defence of this country not a ground for social experiments
when you have strong defence force you can do any kind of social experiments inside you country sorry for harsh words but i would like to tell SJW cuck's who are batting for combat role to go fuck themselves because we are living in most hostile neighbourhood in the world with barbaric neighbours
so its okay to risk men when your country is in danger but when times are good we have to pamper women and boost their egos.

Tommorrow when india develops all these cucks will spoil these women with lucrative jobs that are glamarous in key institutions just for sj and our story will be just like west where white men conquered, buit, invented and now their women just squander it.

Women have not earned their arrogance like men.If they want to be as egotistical like men then they better do every job like men exactly in the same nos as men.

Most of these women are okay becuz there is practically no social security like in the west, when we progress they will become just like women of the west and betray us.

No need to worship them.

Why are they sidelining general V K Singh for the defence minister post?
I don't doubt the capabilities of Mrs Seetharaman but I think General Singh would have been a better choice for this post.
Disappointed.
I have nothing against General VK Singh. He tried to expose corruption, promote indegenization and fight lobbying. Hope he is included in security affairs as an advisory role. But I would prefer a civilian as defence minister as someone said war is too important to be left to generals.

London hails straight-talking Sitharaman’s new role as India’s defence minister
Published September 5, 2017
SOURCE: HINDUSTAN TIMES

Vince Cable, who as business secretary in the David Cameron government interacted with his counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman on trade issues, has hailed her new role as India’s defence minister even as many here recalled her straight-talking on India-UK ties in the past.

Sitharaman, who previously worked at Pricewaterhouse Coopers in London and the BBC World Service, was here in January 2015 as the minister for commerce for the tenth India-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee meeting, when she had a bilateral with Cable.

Now leader of the Liberal Democrats, Cable told Hindustan Times: “Sitharaman is a highly impressive minister with whom I had very productive meetings. I am delighted she has progressed to such a crucial and sensitive post in the (Indian) cabinet.” Industrialist Swraj Paul added: “It is a great appointment. She is a very efficient and capable person.

Everyone knows my admiration for the first woman who held the defence portfolio: Indira Gandhi. Sitharaman has a very big act to follow; I wish her the best.” When Prime Minister Theresa May travelled to India in November 2016 on her first visit outside the European Union, seeking to enhance trade ties after Brexit, Sitharaman did some straight-talking while May was there.

The visa issue overshadowed May’s visit while her desire for a free trade agreement with India got less traction in the British and Indian media. As the commerce minister, Sitharaman’s remarks were considered significant in London.

Interviewed by a London-based presenter on BBC’s Hard Talk programme, she said from New Delhi that British visa restrictions for Indians “sound like non-tariff barriers in the services sector”, and noted that India was “not being treated as old friends any longer”. “It’s a tight professional engagement, while we are also looking at India’s strengths and demanding our due place in the trade deal…Hope there will be necessary course correction during formal talks on a trade deal after Britain leaves the EU,” she said.

London believes that unlike the yet-to-be-reached free trade agreement between India and the European Union, it will be easier to forge such an agreement with post-Brexit UK when it is free from the bureaucracy of Brussels. However, Cable is not so sure: “There is no sign of rethinking on the visa issue.

I don’t think it (free trade pact) will happen. Sitharaman valued good relations, but there was quite a serious obstacle on the mobility issue in the trade talks. “Britain’s current crop of ministers seem not to have taken on board that the attempted EU-India agreement foundered not because of the rest of the EU but, in substantial part, because Britain rejected it. “Attempts to open the UK to more Indian IT specialists and other professionals (the so-called Mode 4) foundered on the objections of Theresa May.

The main irritant in UK-India relations is visas. In the absence of creative ideas on freeing up immigration and visiting rights from India, ministers will continue to get a flea in their ear in Delhi,” Cable added, reflecting the views of Sitharaman. As defence minister, Sitharaman will oversee close relations with Britain, which are seen as “another important pillar” in bilateral cooperation.

The most recent publicly held joint event was the naval exercise Konkan 2017, which was conducted in Plymouth in May and attended by the stealth frigate INS Tarkash. The last annual meeting of the Defence Consultative Group of the two countries was held in New Delhi in December 2016. During the visit here of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2015, the two sides agreed to elevate their defence relationship by establishing capability partnerships in strategic areas.

Oh man! That's a shocking info. JNU, of all places! and Modi chose this lady?
Why, Modi? :notsure:
For one very basic reason IMO.

Our defence forces are lagging in some equipments for long and all this is because of the dilly delaying in purchase or order. Now if we have to see beyond the tender phase of any requirement, financial bid is where we get stuck up with many deals.

Now technical evaluation is going to take some time for sure, but what we could do to expediate the process of purchase is by cutting short on finance bid. Now each and every procurement has to go through FM in its final phase and this is where it gets stuck for the most longer duration. During initial phase too, its the cost which keeps on dragging things. Now with someone from economic background and quite good record in the field from past, half of the things regarding cost could be sorted out in RM level itself.

Moreover, as I said earlier, with NS in the helm, Modi govt has shown some leniency towards Russians. My only grudge would be missing out someone with technical background like MP. But anyway, lets keep our finger crossed for time being.

One word she is good at "MANAGEMENT".
At present we need someone who gives importance to local companies than imported.
She made lot of changes in organizational structure in commerce ministry, hope some changes in MOD too.
My take she will not involve any operational side most of it is managed by modi or security council or ajit doval.

Probably focus will be on building domestic military industrial complex, not many JV's have materialised inspite of licenses being issued.

Licences were issued by her ministry in last two years, now its her job to make sure manufacturing companies are set up on the ground for those licences.

Just like Jaitley was given defence ministry because some critical defence ministry files were getting stuck at finance ministry. One of the reasons atleast.

Parrikar had stated that it took him four months to understand the subject, let's hope she takes less time.

You people are seriously disrespectful of Mr SUBHASH BHAMRE. He is the minister of state of Defence. He is doing an excellent job. He keeps a low profile. Nirmala can learn easily this time because of his able assistance. He assumed office in july 2016. Parrikar found it difficult as he was alone when he took office. But this time there is continuity

Technically Bhamre is a minister dedicated to OFB.

But yes what you say is possible.

Bhamre is a blabbermouth. His job is basically PA to DM. I like NS but am afraid BJP may get tempted by MSM,SJW to secure votes from liberals and dregs of society by conducting 'feminist' military reforms like WiC. If they do so next election 2019, they lose my vote as well as millions others only to find liberals and congis backstabbed them in to pushing their agenda.

Then there is only RSS coup d'etat for BJP remaining. If nothing happens and NS is at least as good as MP minus blabbermouth and male guilt towards 'women empowerment' then no one will be happier than me and I will vote for BJP again in 2019.

BJP is not going after any liberals. In India only muslims and their allies are the liberals. Indian elections have next to 0 value for liberals. It is more about caste and Hindutva.

If you remember the problems Rao Inderjit Singh had caused by his insistence on buying Beretta rifles for the army which had failed all tests. Modi has become extremely wary about trust issues in exceptionally key ministry. Defence is the most important ministry and it will be run directly by Modi himself

So she's a functionary then? I know Sushma is the agony aunt for lost PIOs but this new....

So if I must make an algorithm based on your inputs:

NS--->AJ---->AS<---->NM

Is this correct?
