Burdwan blast: Three NGOs funded Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh operatives | Zee News

New Delhi: Investigating agencies on Monday began probing the role of three non-governmental organisations (NGOs) who are suspected to have funded the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) operatives in the case.

The agencies have found that three NGOs had allegedly transferred huge sums of money to the accused in the Burdwan blast.

Of the three NGOs under the scanner, one operates from Kuwait and two others are based in Saudi Arabia.

"We met the chief minister and discussed the issue with her and we are happy to say that the chief minister and the West Bengal government have assured that the Centre and the state will work together in unearthing the entire case and take all kinds of action to see that such cases are investigated properly and prevented in future," Prakash Mishra, special secretary for internal security in the union home ministry, told media persons after the meeting.

The delegation earlier visited the blast site in Burdwan's Khagragarh, where two Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen militants were killed and another injured.

Several suspected operatives of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh are said to have been involved in the October 2 blast.

Key terror suspect held

A man suspected to be Sheikh Yusuf, one of the key operatives accused of running the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh module in Bengal, has been captured from a border town in Nepal by Calcutta police's special task force, sources said today.

"We are certain that the detained man is Yusuf and have handed him over to the NIA, which is probing the (October 2) Burdwan blast," an STF source said.

Yusuf, 31, is believed to have set up the Shimulia madarsa, the alleged nucleus of the JMB's terror network in Bengal. "Yusuf holds the key to all the details of the case"¦. Several mysteries can be resolved if he cooperates," the source said.

Sources said investigators had learnt from Yusuf's family that the resident of Krishnabati, 2km from Shimulia, was educated at a madarsa in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh.

Subtle Centre forces Mamata's hand Nice, but do more, says Doval

Mamata Banerjee today spent more than an hour with the who's who of the country's security establishment at Nabanna, during which the chief minister promised "all possible co-operation" to fight terrorism and sought Delhi's help in tackling infiltration.

Sources described the chief minister's approach in the hour-long meeting with national security adviser Ajit Doval and other officers at Nabanna as "defensive".

Senior state government officers and political sources acknowledged in private that Delhi's strategy of putting pressure on her — by sending a battery of senior officers involved in security matters –- appeared to have shown some results and succeeded in averting charges of "politicisation".

Mamata had earlier questioned the decision to hand over the Burdwan blast probe to the National Investigation Agency, broaching the "federalism" logic.

A special flight from Delhi carrying Doval, special secretary (internal security) Prakash Mishra, NIA director-general Sharad Kumar, National Security Guard chief J. N. Choudhury and NIA inspector-general S.K. Singh landed in Calcutta airport this morning.

After visiting the blast site in Khagragarh in Burdwan, the team reached Nabanna at 12.55pm and spent around two hours there.

"We are going back with the assurance that the Centre and the state would be jointly fighting against terror"¦. The case, we hope, would be taken to its logical conclusion," Mishra told journalists after the meeting.

Besides Mamata, chief secretary Sanjay Mitra, home secretary Basudeb Banerjee, state police chief G.M.P. Reddy and Calcutta police commissioner Surajit Kar Purakayastha met the team from Delhi at the conference room, adjacent to the chief minister's chamber on the 14th floor.

There was no separate media briefing on the Nabanna meeting by the state, indicating it was on the same page with the Centre on the need for "cooperation" to solve the Burdwan blast case.

"One has to admit that the team's visit was somewhat embarrassing for the state"¦. The government now has no choice but to put on a smile and promise cooperation," a Nabanna official said.

Political sources privy to official business in the Modi government said the Prime Minister was "extremely worried" about the Burdwan episode.

"Modiji is very clear that BJP or NDA ministers or their official representatives visiting Bengal will not say anything that would amount to outright politicisation"¦. His approach is to manifest the Centre's deep concern through its officials. The presence of the country's top security officers in one place is a signal strong enough," a political source explained.

According to a senior official in Nabanna, the BJP government at the Centre had strategically sent a "handpicked team" to add to the state's "awkwardness".

"Although they spoke of cooperation and coordination with the chief minister and said as much to the media, the message that went out from their visit was that the state government couldn't handle it," the official said.

"If one looks closely, Centre-state politics are at play here, but very subtly so," he added.

A state government official said the decision to send Doval to "lend a professional touch to the case" was an "insult" to Bengal. "This means the state government did not have the professional touch," he explained.

Sources in Nabanna said Doval did the maximum talking with Mamata and told her that until now, at least 150 youths from Bengal had been trained by the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh, which was luring youths to set up arms factories and produce explosives meant to be used in the neighbouring country. The JMB module has been active in Bengal since 2010, Doval is learnt to have told the chief minister.

"Investigations till now have made it clear that each of the consignments smuggled across the border comprised 40-45 hand grenades," a senior home department official said, quoting Doval.

Mamata apparently told the national team that border security was the Centre's responsibility and until fencing along the India-Bangladesh border was complete, tackling infiltration would be difficult, an official said.

According to him, Doval then told Mamata to ensure the improvement and strengthening of the state's intelligence bureau.

Sources said the national security adviser rounded off the meeting by saying: "What we have got is nice, but we want more such cooperation from the state's side."

"He (Doval) also said that he would brief the Prime Minister about his meeting with the state government," a source said.

Earlier in the day, Doval told the NIA team in Khagragarh to shift the focus of investigation from Burdwan to Murshidabad and Nadia, sources said.

After Doval reached the blast-hit flat, IG NIA S.K. Singh and joint director of subsidiary intelligence bureau, Niraj Sinha, briefed him about the sequence of incidents, details of their findings and the leads they are were working on.

"He wanted to know every minute detail"¦. Right from the position of the bodies found at the spot to the places where blood was splattered on the wall," said an officer of a central agency who was present there.
Subtle Centre forces MamataÂ’s hand
The NIA has bearded the lioness in her den.

These days there is not a peep from this woman.

No unending bakwas about secular forces vs communal hordes is coming out of her any more.

Foolish woman sleeping on her watch.

Glare on state intelligence

The failure of the state intelligence branch in gathering intelligence and sharing it with the Centre was today discussed by the central security officers in their meeting with Mamata Banerjee and other officials at Nabanna today.

Sources said national security adviser Ajit Doval and his team told the chief minister and director-general of police G.M.P. Reddy how the intelligence branch was ignorant about Arabic and Urdu, two languages used by Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh operatives for their written communication, and had employed locals to translate books found in the madarsas that were searched in connection with the probe.

"While the National Investigation Agency has accepted our claim about the involvement of the JMB in Burdwan, the central team pointed out today how the intelligence network of Bengal police had failed in collecting important information," a senior official said.

"The state agencies had collected some textbooks in connection with the blast and passed them off as jihadi literature"¦. But later, the central agencies found that they were books in Arabic and were important for the probe," the official added.

According to sources, the central team of security officers also pointed out at the meeting today how the state intelligence unit sat on inputs provided by the Centre on terror modules at different points of time.

The sources said the central team told DGP Reddy that the state had shared with Delhi "little or no" intelligence "of use" over the past few years, while the Centre has been keeping the state posted on all key findings.

Another official said the central team asked Reddy to ensure better vigil of "potentially troublesome" areas, besides recruiting officers who can read Urdu and Arabic.

According to police sources, an intelligence branch officer ideally has to build a strong source network in the particular field where he is supposed to perform and should also read up extensively besides tracking developments.

Information gathering is source-driven, for which the officers are even given money. Identification of sources is at the key of information gathering, where the sleuths have to win over the trust of the person and nudge him to share information.

"Unless someone is tracking the beat sincerely, one cannot figure out the persons who can be explored as possible sources"¦. But that has not been happening for some time," a senior IB officer said.

A central agency source said that officers from the intelligence branch's terrorist wing are supposed to plant their sources in every corner of "fields" through which terrorists can possibly operate.

"None of the branch officer take their job seriously and they are not willing to do things for which they are assigned. You will hardly find anyone in the intelligence branch who has a reliable source in a remote pocket along the India-Bangladesh border," said another officer. "If an officer is transferred to the intelligence branch, he considers it a punishment. How can he work as an intelligence officer them?"

A Nabanna official said the team from Delhi nudged the state forces to "perform" and repeatedly stressed that JMB operatives would pose a serious threat to the security of the region.

"The director-general of police and the home secretary were told that it's already very late, but there is still time to avert greater damage by making the state IB clean up its act," he added.
Glare on state intelligence
Calcutta Police was once considered to be next to the London Metropolitan Police at one time.

Now, thanks to politicising the Police, started by the clot Jyoti Basu and then followed by his successors to include Mamata Bannerjee, the Calcutta Police has come to this sorry state where the IB are like the Keystone Cops or Inspector Clouseau.

A LITTLE STORY WHY THE MUSLIMS NEED TO BE REIGNED IN

Here is a little history. Including how the term 'Leatherneck' came to be.

Many are unaware of the fact that over two hundred years ago,the United States had declared war on Islam, and Thomas Jefferson led the charge!

At the height of the eighteenth century, Muslim pirates were the terror of the Mediterranean and a large area of the North Atlantic. They attacked every ship in sight, and held the crews for exorbitant ransoms.

Those taken hostage were subjected to barbaric treatment and wrote heart breaking letters home, begging their government and family members to pay whatever their Mohammedan captors demanded.

These extortionists of the high seas represented the Islamic nations of Tripoli, Tunis, Morocco, and Algiers – collectively referred to as the Barbary Coast –
and presented a dangerous and unprovoked threat to the new American Republic.

Before the Revolutionary War, U.S. merchant ships had been under the protection of Great Britain. When the U.S. declared its independence and entered into war, the ships of the United States were protected by France. However, once the war was won, America had to
protect its own fleets. Thus, the birth of the U.S. Navy.

Beginning in 1784, seventeen years before he would become president, Thomas Jefferson became America's Minister to France.

That same year, the U.S. Congress sought to appease its Muslim adversaries by following in the footsteps of European nations who paid bribes to the Barbary States, rather than engaging them in war.

In July of 1785, Algerian pirates captured American ships, and the Day of Algiers demanded an unheard-of ransom of $60,000. It was a plain and simple case of extortion, and Thomas Jefferson was vehemently opposed to any further payments. Instead, he proposed to Congress the formation of a coalition of allied nations who together could force the Islamic states into peace. A disinterested Congress decided to pay the ransom.

In 1786, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams met with Tripoli's ambassador to Great Britain to ask by what right his nation attacked American ships and enslaved American citizens, and why Muslims held so much hostility towards America, a nation with which they had no previous contacts.

The two future presidents reported that Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja had answered that Islam "was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Quran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman (Muslim) who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise."

Despite this stunning admission of premeditated violence on non-Muslim nations,as well as the objections of many notable American leaders, including George Washington, who warned that caving in was both wrong and would only further embolden the enemy, for the following fifteen years, the American government paid the Muslims millions of dollars for the safe passage of American ships or the return of American hostages.

The payments in ransom and tribute amounted to over twenty percent of the United States government annual revenues in 1800.
Jefferson was disgusted. Shortly after his beingsworn in as the third President of the United States in 1801, the Pashaof Tripoli sent him a note demanding the immediate payment of $225,000 plus $25,000 a year for every year forthcoming.

That changed everything.

Jefferson let the Pasha know, in no uncertain terms, what he could do with his demand. The Pasha responded by cutting down the flagpole at the American consulate and declared war on the United States.Tunis, Morocco, and Algiers immediately followed suit.

Jefferson, until now, had been against America raising anaval force for anything beyond coastal defense, but having watched his nation be cowed by Islamic thuggery for long enough, decided that it was finally time to meet force with force.

He dispatched a squadron of frigates to the Mediterranean and taught the Muslim of theBarbary Coast a lesson he hoped they would never forget.

Congress authorized Jefferson to empower U.S. ships to seize all vessels and goods of the Pasha of Tripoli and to "cause to be done all other acts of precaution or hostility as the state of war would justify".

When Algiers and Tunis, who were both accustomed to American cowardice and acquiescence, saw the newly independent United States had both the will and the might to strike back, they quickly abandoned their allegiance to Tripoli.

The war with Tripoli lasted for four more years, and raged up again in 1815. The bravery of the U.S. Marine Corps in these wars led to the line "to the shores of Tripoli" in the Marine Hymn, They would forever be known as "leathernecks" for the leather collars of their uniforms, designed to prevent their heads from being cut off by the Muslim scimitars when boarding enemy ships.

Islam, and what its Barbary followers justified doing in the name of their prophet and their god, disturbed Jefferson quite deeply. America had a tradition of religious tolerance, the fact that Jefferson, himself, had co-authored the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, but fundamentalist Islam was like no other religion the world had ever seen.

A religion based on supremacism, whose holy book not only condoned but mandated violence against unbelievers was unacceptable to him. His greatest fear was that someday this brand of Islam would return and pose an even greater threat to the United States.

This should bother every American. That the Islams have brought about women-only classes and swimming times at taxpayer-funded universities and public pools; that Christians, Jews, and Hindus have been banned from serving on juries where Muslim defendants are being judged, Piggy banks and Porky Pig tissue dispensers have been banned from workplaces because they offend Islamist sensibilities.

Ice cream has been discontinued at certain Burger King locations because the picture on the wrapper looks similar to the Arabic script for Allah, public schools are pulling pork from their menus, on and on in the news papers"¦.
It's death by a thousand cuts, or inch-by-inch as some refer to it, and most Americans have no idea that this battle is being waged every day across America. By not fighting back, by allowing groups to obfuscate what is really happening, and not insisting that the Islamists adapt to our own culture, the United States is cutting its own throat with politically correct knife, and helping to further the Islamists agenda.
Sadly, it appears that today's America would rather be politically correct than victorious.

Any doubts, just Google Thomas Jefferson vs the Muslim World or click this link: First Barbary War - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

@pkroyal,

Thanks.

It is something that was very educative and of which I had no clue, including the origin of certain words like 'Leatherneck'.

Uk became rich based on the money they looted from their colonies and also supporting the pirates against the then super power the Spanish empire.

If we see the context of the two barbarians the british and the Islamic nations mentioned, both are same.

One thing that differentiates between both is that these radical Islamists do the crimes and say their prophet also did the same and GOD is with us.

WEST BENGAL BESIEGED, INDIA SUBVERTED

Recent incidents of numerous bomb blasts in West Bengal have caused enormous shock and terror across India. Prima facie while the Intelligence Bureau and West Bengal Police slumbered, Al Qaeda and its associated jihadi outfits like the Indian Mujahideen, Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh and the newly created IS Caliphate, acting in cohorts with the Inter Service Intelligence of Pakistan, have managed to strike deep roots in various parts of West Bengal. And now it stands confirmed that during the last ten years the virus has spread to many other parts of the country.

Contours of a Jihadi Plot

On October 2 2014, around 12:00 noon an explosion occurred in a two-storeyed building in the Khagragarh locality of Burdwan.[1] The building was owned by Nurul Hasan Chowdhury who used to stay in another house across the road.[1] Hasan Chowdhury was a leader of the Trinamool Congress and the ground floor of the building was used as Trinamool Congress party office.[2] During the 2008 and 2013 Panchayat elections, it was used as the election office by the Trinamool Congress. Hasan Chowdhury had let out the first floor of the building to one Shakil Ahmed on a monthly rent of Rs.4,700/-.

Local residents informed the police when they heard the explosion and saw smoke billowing out of the first floor room. When police arrived, two women inside the building prevented the police from entering at gunpoint, threatening to blow up the building. The two women were reported to have destroyed several documents which could be used by police as evidence of terrorist activities.

Shakil Ahmed who had rented the place and hailed from Karimpur in Nadia district, died on the spot. Two persons were injured. One of them Sobhan Mondal died later at the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital.[1] The other named Abdul Hakim, from Lalgola in Murshidabad district, was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition.[1] The two women, wives of Shakil Ahmed and Abdul Hakim and their two children were left unharmed by the chance explosion. The police arrested the two women.

Nearly 55 improvised explosive devices, wrist watch dials and RDX were recovered. The police also recovered several SIM cards and tools used for making improvised explosive devices. Also recovered from the building were Micro SD cards containing Islamic propaganda songs and Taliban training videos, fake ID documents like electoral cards and passports were also found. ] Maps and half burnt books in Arabic too were recovered. Preliminary investigations by the West Bengal CID indicated that a militant group called, 'al Jihad' was involved in manufacturing bombs.

Long Sweep of Jihadi Terror

According to informed sources , the al Jihad module had planned a series of ten blasts in Kolkata during the Durga Puja. Initially the West Bengal government tried to avoid the probe by NIA into the Burdwan bomb blast. After a delay of eight days, the National Investigation Agency took over the investigation.

To their dismay they soon found that the terror network of Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh was not limited within West Bengal. Its jihadi activities had struck deep roots in several other parts of India, including Chennai in Tamil Nadu and Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. The jihadi module of Al Qaeda had been supplying explosives and bomb making-material to many other states in India and several strategic locations in the adjoining Bangladesh.

As the plot of Burdwan bomb blast continues to thicken day after day, hour after hour, the dark contours of the global jihad raising its black banner in India's eastern region threaten to start a major religion-based civilizational clash in West Bengal, Assam and many more States. The ongoing probe has revealed that the Simulia Madrasa of Burdwan has been actively recruiting and training hordes of jihadis from different parts of India as well as from Bangladesh.

In this Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011 photo, masked Pakistani Taliban militants take part in a training session in an area of Pakistan's tribal South Waziristan region along the Afghan border. Associated Press reporter, photographer and videographer Ishtiaq Mahsud spent six days with fighters from the Pakistani Taliban close to the Afghan border. His account of their travels through South Waziristan offers a glimpse into an area that the Pakistani military claimed had been brought under control following an army offensive two years ago. (AP Photo/Ishtiaq Mahsud)

Investigations by the NIA have disclosed that Simulia Madrasa, has been functioning as a well organised terrorist training camp – a fact belatedly discovered by the Intelligence Bureau and State Police intelligence sources. The investigations have revealed that a trans- Bengal jihadi network allegedly plotted blasts in Patna's Gandhi Maidan during Narendra Modi's election meeting last year. The group is believed be involved in a bomb blast in Chennai.

The investigations have revealed that both Shakil Ahmed Ghazi ( a Bangladeshi terrorist of JMB), who died in the blast at his home at Khagragarh in Burdwan district while making bombs, and another suspect, Mohammad Qauser (who has fled to Bangladesh), were behind the blast at Chennai railway station on May 1, 2014. The timer used in the twin blasts in the Bangalore-Guwahati Express at Chennai Central Railway Station were similar to that which was found by the NIA in Burdwan. Mobile call records too indicated that several calls had been made by Shakil and Qauser to their contacts in Chennai in April, 2014. The sleuths of the central agency felt that JMB was in league with the Indian Mujahideen which had received outside help to carry out the blasts in Patna as well as Chennai.

In all probability, the terrorists also used the "Sigma" watches for timing the bomb blasts. During searches at the home of Shakil and the injured JMB terrorist Abdul Hakim at Khagragarh Sigma watches were reported to have been seized. After analysing mobile call records and cracking fake e-mail IDs in a laptop found in the Khagragarh house, the sleuths discovered that Qauser had visited various states in South India.

SIM cards purchased in West Bengal were also used to make calls to their links in various states and even Bangladesh when the duo operated from Chennai just before the blasts.

Shakil's widow, Raziya Bibi, now in NIA custody, has started singing like a canary. She is said to have confessed that her husband and Qauser had visited Chennai in April and May 2014 just a few days before the blasts. The tags found in the time bombs in the train compartments had tags of a manufacturer in West Bengal, which they had taken there, Razia reportedly told them.

The NIA team discovered that similar timers had been used in West Bengal bomb blasts. Prima facie this discovery confirms that the Patna and Chennai terrorists had connection with Shakil and Qauser. The seven bombs which exploded last year during the Patna rally had been manufactured in West Bengal. In fact, one of the terrorists arrested from Barpeta in Assam, admitted having learnt to make IEDs in Jharkhand where underground spy nests of Indian Mujahideen and Al Qaeda had been strategically positioned by the militants, perhaps by Pakistan's ISI.

Further investigations confirmed their links with some Indian Mujahideen operatives functioning from Karnataka. Raziya admitted the two terrorists making calls to Abdul Qader Sultan Armar, who hailed from Bhatkal in Karnataka State. Now, however, Sultan Armar was operating from Waziristan in AFPAK region and adjoining Pakistan.

According to reliable sources, Qader Sheikh, brother-in-law of Shakil, was acting as a courier, providing logistics like RDX and raw explosive materials for training.

Meanwhile the NIA and other Central intelligence agencies continue their hunt for approximately 150 plus jihadis linked to the Bangladesh module. There is some evidence of the attempted cover-up by the West Bengal Police in the Burdwan accidental bombing case. Information received from various sources detailing the Simulia Madrasa terror apparatus reveals that the suspected terrorist Shakil Ahmed prepared self-motivated modules who have gained expertise in making IEDs and carrying out terror strikes as independent operatives. Shakil was aided by the absconding suspects Sheikh Yusuf and Abdul.

India Subverted By Fifth Columnists and Fellow Travellers

The Simulia Madarsa is reported to have trained more than 140 Muslim youth recruited from India as well as Bangladesh. They were trained to unleash new terror operations which Al Qaeda was planning to launch. Allegedly Shakil Ahmed was providing paramilitary training and giving lessons in the technology of making IEDs to new recruits in Simulia Seminary which is an hour's drive from Burdwan.

The Central agencies seized several issues of INSPIRE magazine, a well-known publication of Al Qaeda from the suspects' hideouts in Burdwan. The interrogation of captured Jihadi Hasan Molla revealed that Inspire magazine was an excellent guide for making lethal IEDs in kitchens. Al Qaeda magazines, especially THE INSPIRE, teaches how a bomb can be assembled from common items like cooking gas cylinders and iron nails. It can be set off by a remote detonator.

According to reliable sources, substantial jihadi literature and printed material seized from the house of Shakil's relative Qader Sheikh's house had slogans like 'Jihad—f from Bangladesh to Baghdad' and radical promptings for the indoctrination of trainees. Mercifully, some residents of Khagragarh have now started approaching the officers of the NIA with fresh inputs about which they dared not speak earlier due to the fear of pro-jihadi goons and paid politicians

Monumental Failure of Intelligence Bureau

In early 2004, a Mumbai-based strategic think tank, Foresight Group, chaired by Sundeep Waslekar had published a book titled 'Cost of Conflict between India and Pakistan'. The tome gave copious details of the activities of the Inter-Services Intelligence of Pakistan in India, largely managed and monitored through multiple strings of Madarsas embedded across various States. Waslekar's research highlighted several sinister aspects of the fast-rising network of spies planted across India by Pakistan to subvert and destroy the Indian nation (read the Hindu identity of India). It drew pointed attention to the virulent anti-national preaching in most madarsas of India.

Waslekar's tome contained useful details of the activities of the ISI, presumably culled from a leaked secret official White Paper allegedly prepared during the tenure of Lal Krishna Advani who was Home Minister during the previous National Democratic Alliance (NDA) regime. Mysteriously, the so-called white paper, originally tom-tommed by L.K. Advani as a great expose of the rising crescendo of the ISI's footprints in India, never saw light of the day.

Mindboggling Sweep of ISI Spynests in India

According to Waslekar's study, by 2004 itself, the ISI had spread its tentacles all over India by establishing sixty Spying Centres across various states in which nearly 10,000 spies were employed. As many as ten States, namely Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala , Jharkhand and Assam have been actively flooded by the ISI modules. Additionally an effective network of jihad- promoting madrasas had been spread throughout the country.

The latest disclosure about a super spy codenamed 'Honeybee' planted in India by the ISI has given a new twist to the narrative of Pro-Pakistani fifth columnists and fellow-travellers embedded in Indian polity. Interestingly the news that the super-spy Honeybee is aided by a retinue of 'chuhes' (i.e. rats), as disclosed by Adrian Levy and Cathy Scott-Clarke in their scholarly book, The Seige, appears to be another major failure of Indian intelligence agencies.

It is amazing that the boast of Major Iqbal of the ISI about the cleverly planted Honeybee, highlighted by Adrian Levy and Cathy Scott-Clarke, has not been taken seriously by the Indian intelligence agencies. No one knows the reason for ignoring such a vital clue about the shadowy operations of fifth columnists, boldly highlighted more than one year ago by two reputed researchers.

Sundeep Waslekar's assessment was that by the year 2004 the ISI had successfully set up as many as sixty regular Espionage Centres all over India in which nearly 10,000 trained spies were employed. That was a rough estimate made by the researchers of Waslekar's thinktank ten years ago. Since then much water has flowed down the Ganga.

According to reliable intelligence sources, by now the number of active ISI-planted Espionage Centres in India has more than doubled. These espionage centres constitute formidable sleeper cells of Pakistan-financed fifth columnists whose numbers have grown exponentially during the 10 years of misrule by the UPA. According to a former intelligence expert (name withheld to protect his identity) by now the number of core ISI agents plus their cleverly embedded fellow- travellers operating in India is believed to be in the range of fifty to sixty thousands, or more. That makes a formidable corps of spies and saboteurs planted within India. No wonder, India is heading for a major faultline conflict.

It is difficult to believe that senior officers of the Intelligence Bureau have no knowledge of Sundeep Waslekar's ten years old research. Far more difficult is to believe that they have remained ignorant of the contents of Cathy Scott and Adrian Levy's widely discussed book, The Seige.

Apparently while West Bengal Police slept under the protective shield of Mamata Banerjee, the Intelligence Bureau went into Kumbhakaran-like slumber for ten years under the UPA's long spell of non-governance. It is time for some soul searching by India's current Home Minister for weeding out incompetent security professionals. But can Rajnath Singh use his big broom to clean the Augean stables thriving under his nose ?

What has happened in West Bengal is inexcusable, especially after a strong warning was conveyed nine years ago by the senior journalist, Mayank Jain, in his video-film, The Bangla Crescent .

Indian citizens demand answers. Now.

Trinamool Congress finally expels strongman former MLA Arabul Islam | Latest News & Updates at Daily News & Analysis

The Trinamool Congress on Tuesday expelled strongman and former MLA Arabul Islam who had often put the party in embarrassing situations, the latest being the October 25 intra-party clash at Bhangor in South 24-Parganas district which left two persons dead.

Besides Islam, his close aide Jahangir Khan, whose name featured in the violence at Bhangor, has been expelled for a period of six years on the charges of indiscipline and misconduct, TMC secretary-general Partha Chatterjee told reporters.

Chatterjee said that the decision to expel the two leaders had been taken by the disciplinary committee of the party which went through the primary report submitted after the Bhangor intra-party violence which occurred due to rivalry over gaining control of a gram panchayat. "There is no place for indiscipline in the party. We had earlier said repeatedly that violence in any form would not be tolerated under Mamata Banerjee's leadership. Those found to be delinquent in this regard will be punished," he said.

State BJP welcomed the expulsion decision, but wanted the government to take legal steps against Islam for alleged role behind the clash. "Though late, we support the decision of the Trinamool Congress. Similarly, we want that there should be legal steps initiated against Islam in connection with the recent incident of killings in Bhangor," state BJP president Rahul Sinha said.

Love in the time of jihad: NIA investigations reveal startling facts in Burdwan blasts

During the course of investigation, the NIA has so far discovered 13 Jihadi couples who were part of proscribed terrorist organisation JMB's (Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh) grand dream of establishing an Islamic state in Bangladesh and three West Bengal districts of Malda, Nadia and Murshidabad.

Investigations have revealed that to put their plan into practice, top JMB leaders in Bangladesh had instructed their cadres involved in India operation to target young females belonging to low socioeconomic background and marry them. This would enable them to acquire Indian identity and documents and the women could be used as a cover too.

According to NIA sources, 13 women from West Bengal got married to JMB cadres, and were involved in imparting dangerous jihadi indoctrination and training at the Simulia madarsa in Burdwan and Mukimnagar madarsa in Murshidabad. They also actively participated in spreading jihadi philosophy.
