Embraer expects the first of modernised E-99M airborne early warning and control aircraft for the Brazilian Air Force to take place in August. The Brazilian Air Force has five Embraer 145s that have been converted to E-99 AEW&C aircraft. The air force originally planned to modernise the fleet six years ago but decided recently to go ahead with the programme. The Brazilian Air Force is expected to receive its first E-99M aircraft in the first half of 2020. The second of five aircraft is already at Embraer's facility. Modernisation is taking place on a a yearly pace as Embraer will deliver one aircraft when finished and then will receive another to be modernised.

Raytheon has partnered with Northrop Grumman on its air-breating hypersonic weapon, which will be powered by a Northrop-made scramjet made entirely of 3D-printed parts. Raytheon's and Northrop's weapon is one of the competitors in the US Defense Advanced Reseach Projects Agency's HAWC project. The scamjet engines use high vehicle speeds to then compress air moving into its inlets before combusting it. The process allows a vehicle to maintain hypersonic speeds - more than five times the speed of sound - over longer periods of time. The Raytheon-Northrop team is competing against Lockheed Martin for the final HAWC contract.

Embraer has secured its first export customer for the KC-390 airlifter, with the announcement on 11 July that Portugal has placed a firm order for 5 aircraft. The decision by the Portuguese government to sign for the Brazilian-built transport aircraft comes 9 year after the country joined the programme as a partner in 2010. At that time, the Portuguese Air Force said it had a requirement for six KC-390s to replace its ageing Lockhedd Martin C-130H Hercules airlifters. Embrier did not disclose the status of the final aircraft. With the Portuguese order, Emraer is now under contract to build 35 KC-390 aircraft for the Brazilian Air Force. Letter of intent have also been received from Argentina (6), Chile (6), Colombia (12) and the Czech Republic (2).

Air Force Reveals Tests Of Supposed Record-Setting Scramjet Engine From Northrop Grumman

AFRL and Northrop Grumman had tested the 18-foot long fighter-engine sized scramjet powerplant across a nine-month period. The engine ran for a total of 30 minutes across an unspecified number of tests, generating up to 13,000 pounds of thrust under conditions the engine would experience at speeds of above Mach 4. The testing occured at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex's (AEDC) Aerodynamic and Propulsion Test Unit at Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee.

It is worth noting that while the Air Force's official release described the engine running at "conditions above Mach 4," hypersonic speed is typically described as being Mach 5 and above. As such, the actual conditions during at least some of the testing may have been more extreme.

It simply cannot be known from the article. But from what I observed from American aerospace projects both in defense and commercial fields, they always prioritize engine development so when they have a new aircraft or missile program these projects almost always already have a mature engine.

Pentagon awards contract for classified ‘Valkyrie’ hypersonic defense program

In a notice posted on the U.S. government’s main contracting website, the Missile Defense Agency announced that under the new contract, the Lockheed Martin will further develop and refine their Hypersonic Defense Weapon Systems Concept Definition White Paper titled “Valkyrie Interceptor Terminal Hypersonic Defense”.

“The work will be performed in Grand Prairie, Texas with an estimated completion date of May 2, 2020,” through a notice posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website, adding that “the performance period is from Sept 3, 2019 through May 2, 2020.”

The classified ‘Valkyrie’ program is operated by Missile Defense Agency and covers the development of next-generation of a weapon system that ability to intercept and destroy hypersonic missile threats.

According to open source, the new ‘Valkyrie’ hypersonic defense weapon system is designing to effectively deter Russia and China, the two largest threats mentioned in the National Defense Strategy.

US Army looks for long-range missiles for rotorcraft and UAVs

The US Army will host a demonstration in August where it will fire Rafael Spike Non-Line-of-Sight missiles from a Boeing AH-64E Apache aircraft

The US Army is looking to acquire a Long Range Precision Munition (LRPM) for its rotorcraft and unmanned air vehicles (UAVs).

That means that in addition to being a possible munition on the
Boeing AH-64 Apache attack helicopter and General Atomics MQ-1C Gray Eagle UAV, such a weapon could arm the US Army’s Future Vertical Lift aircraft, including its Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft and Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft.

The US Army wants the LRPM to have a range of at least 18.6mi (30km) and capability to attack integrated air defense systems, lightly armored vehicles, command and control systems and personnel.

U.S. Air Force scientists developed liquid metal which autonomously changes structure

The material recently developed by Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) scientists, called Polymerized Liquid Metal Networks, does just the opposite. These liquid metal networks can be strained up to 700%, autonomously respond to that strain to keep the resistance between those two states virtually the same, and still return to their original state. It is all due to the self-organized nanostructure within the material that performs these responses automatically.

#PAKDA #Russian long range #Stealth bomber model under going wind tunnel testing (old pic)
That is not a stealthy design. The rounded front fuselage, midsection, wing and underwing conventional turbofan engines are all non-stealthy.

The blended wing-body however offers big volume of space for bomb and fuel loading.

Sikorsky is promoting for the fist time in Latin America its company-qualified, fully-integrated armed version of its latest S-70i Black Hawk utility helicopter with hopes of securing a regional military as the model's first customer. The company had a mockup armed Black Hawk display at the Farnvorough Air Show in 2016 to show what the company had in development. This year, in January, the UAE rolled it out and now that model has officially been qualified by Sikorsky. The company is marketing this armed S-70I as an affordarble option for militaries with smaller budgets such as those in Latin America region. The aircraft can be sqitched from utility to armed in three hours by adding the wings and weapons without requiring dedicated crew, training and spares.
