Nepal vows not to allow anti-China activities from its soil
Kathmandu: Nepal Tuesday said that it was committed to the 'One China' policy and would not allow any activities from its soil directed against the Communist giant.
This was stated by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal during a meeting with Chinese Communist Party Central Committee member Zhang Gaoli, who is leading a 17-member delegation on a visit here.
Zhang also met Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala and opposition Maoist chief Prachanda, a day after holding talks with CPN-UML senior leader K P Sharma Oli.
During the Chinese delegation's meeting with Nepal at his residence here, issues relating to bilateral relations, economic cooperation, foreign investment and cultural exchange came up for discussion, according to the Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Rajan Bhattarai.
As part of the visit of the Chinese delegation, an MoU was signed between the two sides to increase scholarship to Nepalese students as also their enrolment in the Chinese universities, he said.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed Nepal's commitment to the 'One China' policy and assured Beijing that no illegal activities directed against the Communist nation would be allowed in the Nepalese soil.
However, the issue relating to singing of a new Friendship Treaty between Nepal and China did not figure during the meeting, sources in the Prime Minister's office said.
