Navy to induct 4-5 warships every year: Vice Chief

The Indian navy plans to induct 4-5 warships every year in the coming decade, Vice Chief of Naval Staff R.K. Dhowan said Monday.

Vice Admiral Dhowan was speaking at the curtain raiser ceremony of the first naval and maritime exposition and conference being organised by industry body CII from Sep 23 to 27 in Cochin Port Trust, a statement said here.

"Over the decades, our efforts in indigenisation have helped us achieve global shipbuilding standards, resulting today in 46 of the 47 warships and submarines on order for the Navy being constructed in Indian shipyards," he said.

He said the navy is poised to grow and modernise and this provides an opportunity to the Indian shipyards and industry to adopt a collaborative approach to induct state of the art weapons, sensors and combat management systems into the navy.

This is great, btw. Rs 23-30k cr per year for procurement, plus a project list; from that + shipyard construction timeframes + the going price for steel, labor, and other commodities, one can surmise how much all the subsystems for each of these ships will cost - which says a lot about the quality of the subsystems these ships will launch with.

Since India has a relatively open procurement system for military subsystems that is open to international bidders (and even quoted in international prices), prospective adversaries will always know what sort of capabilities INS platforms will field 2-3 years in advance, as well as whether they are up to the latest international standards. Nice! :)

Prospective adversaries always know about the platforms their adversaries are going to field over next 2-3 years.
Only with the open system as in India, the internet poster like you ( may be not you!) and me get to know about them in advance and not when grainy pictures are released.

.

Well I could have replied in-detail if you could elaborate what you have to say.

But, with the little I understood, I would be happy if Chinese planner's SOP for calculating the sub-system on adversary's naval platforms are the way you described in your post.

You mean something like this?

The Chinese have been spying on our indigenous aircraft carrier!

Their posterior is aflame!

The poor sods have no clue how to design and construct a carrier!

Total tuchkus!
