NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's promise of giving jobs to rape victims was slammed by women and child development minister Krishna Tirath and the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Monday. While Tirath dismissed it as a "poll stunt", NCW chairperson Mamta Sharma urged the Election Commission to take action against Yadav. "This is a very irresponsible statement, it will only encourage rape," Tirath told reporters here. "This is totally a wrong thing to say." NCW chairperson Mamta Sharma issued a statement saying the remark was against the model code of conduct. "This is against the model code of conduct, the Election Commission should take action against it," Sharma said. "It is an insult to women and will encourage violence against women," she added. To what extent will people go to get votes? Then there could be a spate of people who will claim that they have been raped including men and boys since the connotation of rape, I believe, has been changed to prevent abuse of male children and men too!
Instead of promising harsher punishment to rapists, and more resources to the police force to solve the rape crimes, this gem comes out of the Mullah Singh Yadav. This insensitivity is being displayed by the man being rumored as the front runner for the post of SM of UP, God help my Birth State.
