Israel won a bunch of wars with foreign weapons.
Israel seems all set to bag yet another mega defence deal to equip all the 356 infantry battalions of the Indian Army with third-generation anti-tank guided missiles(ATGMs). While Russia is far ahead in the lead, Israel is trying to stave off a strong challenge from the US to remain the second largest arms supplier to India.

The Rs 15,000-crore project will involve an initial direct acquisition of the man-portable "tank killers", with a strike range of 2.5-km, followed by transfer of technology (ToT) to defence PSU, Bharat Dynamics, for large-scale indigenous manufacture.

Speaking on the same topic somewhere i read it was because of the US ambassador Timothy Roemer Americans lost the deal........This guy was a loud mouth and he said something about Hal which really offended the Indian side.....later he resigned exactly the next day when f/a-18 and f-16in were not selected......
He said that HAL production facilities resemble to what they had in the 1980s.
Even Russian saw the need to improve efficiency of their aeronautical industry that's why they created the UAC and now see the results.

Time to privatise HAL and all defence agencies or atleast introduce private equity, results will definitely be seen immediately.

And they learned, improvised and adapted these weapons to suit their need.
Anyways now Israelis are much better position when selling weapons btw France has nothing in the category of Spike ATGM and even if they had it would be too expensive :)

I said France has this...

If Euro equipment gets enough orders, it won't be overpriced. =P

Government hopeful of $15 billion Rafale fighter jet deal going through

New Delhi: Earlier this month, in a rather unusual move, the Indian Air Force (IAF) strongly refuted a report that it was working on a Plan B should its negotiations fail to buy 126 combat jets from Dassault Aviation.

"The CNC (Contract negotiations committee) process for acquisition of 126 MMRCA (Medium, multi-role combat aircraft) is underway and there is no thought process for any procurement as a 'back up' as reported," the Air Force said.

The statement was unusual for two reasons. Usually, it's the Defence Ministry that handles clarifications and responses to reports about acquisition of equipment and technology. Also, this is the first time that a press note has been officially issued about plans for procurement.

The deal for the fighter jet is estimated to be worth 15 billion dollars. But even when Dassault Aviation won the hotly contested bidding war with rival manufacturers for exclusive negotiations with India, neither the government nor the Air Force announced the news. It was left to the company to declare itself the winner in January 2012.

The press statement issued earlier this month, sources say, was triggered by concerns in the Defence Ministry and the Air Force that rumours were being spread by those with 'vested' interests or rival manufacturers to prevent the deal with Dassault Aviation from being signed.

Under the initial terms of the proposed deal, Dassault was expected to provide 18 Rafale fighter jets in "fly-away" condition, and then let the state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited or HAL manufacture the rest in India.

However, Dassault now wants two separate contracts to be signed - one for the ready-made ones, and another for the rest to be built by HAL, but India opposes that proposal.

Dassault reportedly has concerns about whether HAL has the capacity and capability to assemble the aircraft and therefore wants to rope in other private Indian firms to manufacture the jets.

Sources involved in the negotiations say that the deal is a complex one which requires careful understanding on both sides of commercial factors, logistics, and the ability of HAL's staff and equipment to assemble the Rafale.

An official shared this example. The radar on the Rafael jet is to be manufactured by Bharat-Electronics Ltd (BEL) at its facility in Banagalore. The Radome (the protruding snub nose on the aircraft), is however manufactured by HAL at its Hyderabad facility. Dassault wants clarity on how the two units will coordinate their activities.

Sources expect the kinks to be ironed out within the next six months. French and Indian government officials are simultaneously working on an Inter-Government Agreement that will oblige Dassault to continue to supply, service and maintain Rafale jets to India over the next 40 years. India wants this feature to ensure manufacturers don't renege on their commitment.

He was comparing the Mirage-2000 with LCA Mk2. There was no hint of Rafale specs in it.

This fanboy fantasy for LCA MK2 is absolutely fantastic. We still do not have MK1 with IAF. We do not have the engines for MK1 and we are talking aout MK2 which is somewhere on the drawing board with a proven Aircraft.

Pure BS in the air.

Tejas aircraft deficient in at least 100 technical parameters: Experts

New Delhi: The light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas is deficient in at least 100 technical parameters, said experts associated with the project. They also alleged that the initial operation clearance granted to Tejas two years ago was given despite the aircraft not meeting various crucial technical parameters.
The experts said as the aircraft has not achieved crucial technical parameters, it continues to be flown only by test pilots and its performance parameters too need to be monitored by ground-based stations. They also said the engine of Tejas lacked sufficient power. Though the experts are hopeful that these issues would be resolved by the end of 2013, they admit complex technicalities pose serious obstacles.
In a press release issued in March, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) admitted the delay in completion of project "Development of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Tejas" and said it was hopeful to achieve Full Operational Clearance (FOC) by December 2014. "The LCA project, which though got delayed initially, is currently progressing on a fast track and is working on aggressive time schedules," it said.

"Productionisation of LCA is already going on. First series production aircraft is likely to be ready by the end of 2013. Indian Air Force has already placed order for 20 LCA in IOC configuration and another of 20 LCA in FOC configuration," added the release.
The Tejas aircraft is being manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The project 'Development of LCA' was sanctioned in August 1983 and Project Definition Phase (PDP) of LCA was completed in 1988. In 1990, a decision was taken to undertake LCA development in two phases. In the first phase to build 02 Technology Demonstrators (TDs) along with development of critical technologies including Multi Mode Radar (MMR) and in the second phase to build Prototype Vehicles, integrate weapons, sensors, and flight testing leading to Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) and Final Operational Clearance (FOC).

Earlier we would say, "Let it fly first and then we will talk about it."

Today even that is not enough. We have to say something like, "Let it be inducted first and then we will talk about it."

LCA turned from a 8 year program into a 40 year program.

Sir not even USA the birth place of aviation has the capability of bringing in a new modern aircraft from design board to production within 8 Years...
Its the HAL and ADA 's first attempt at aircraft building program of indigenous nature. Lets cut some slack please. Modern aircraft manufacturing, development Turbo jet engines and modern avionics and associated software are not stuff that can be bought of the super market are they??
Getting the end product of the shelf is easy like the IAF loves to do...but equiping people with the skillset and the infrastructure for the aerospace industry cannot be bought like that....else we would have done it long ago...after all we are the masters of importing stuff...from shoes to jets...

:wat: Juvenile argument.

One cannot compare apple to oranges. Requirements, threats, strategies & doctrines of India and France are completely different.

France as per their theater is quite efficient and effective.
