What the West spends massively on, ISRO does it frugally, call it jugaad or Indian ingenuity.

This won't be easily digested by West and their lapdogs considering how the potential to disrupt a massive international space market exists and India already has the first mover advantage by conducting such successful launches at a fraction of budget.

Expect more inbound revenue thanks to ISRO as other countries would realize how this cut costs significantly compared to building own in-house space programs.

I think its already happening ISRO jas a growing list of foreign customers including some western nations. Future launches will be.dominated by China and India.
Exactly... ISRO is still some distance to go in this regard and until the GSLV Mark - III will be operational, India has great price advantage here...

Next to watch out for is the 650 ton rocket GSLV Mark - III scheduled later this year...

India has mastered the technology to place big satellites in LEO and now need same for GEO...

moreover Indian Satellites are doing great jobs in weather forecast and natural disaster management... a year back ISRO satellite images managed to save thousand of lives in super cyclone in Orissa...

So the tax payers money are giving dividends back...

But the way these launches are covered in foreign media, you'd believe that India has committed some sort of cardinal sin!

The Europeans, Australians and Americans simply can not believe what Indian can achieve with so little capital... India has already made 100 space lunches / programs till date...Their concerns is that space program is a sole preserve of theirs only... ISRO must continue with their good work and let others burn...

Western views redarding progress in our region will always be biased. They consider some privileges such as space exploration to be the exclusive right and luxury of the whites only. Even if you kill poverty, they will still find other excuses to bash us with their superior and imperial attitude.

India hails rocket 'cheaper than Hollywood film Gravity'

Would have expected less biased and more detailed reporting from a scientific magazine like Phys but disappointing to see otherwise :

Experts say the secret is India's ability to copy and adapt existing space technology for its own needs, and the abundance of highly-skilled engineers who earn a fraction of their foreign counterparts' wages.

If they pay for it, then I dont have a problem. If we do it as a goodwill gesture, we must extract some concessions from them.
Obviously nothing is for free. India will get tangible returns one way or the other.
Even support at international forums would be good to have.
Besides, sharing the fruits of space tech doesn't mean we do ToT or provide some very crucial info.
What we share, mostly depends on who is it we're sharing with and to what extent do we need them.

Actually it was the West (read the Germans) who copied ancient Indian technology while we slept blissfully as they emerged as Scientific Powerhouses.

Its basically Indian Technology - German Technology - Everyone else

it would serve us greatly if we stop cozying up to the West and start with our look east policy. However much we lick the white man's ass, they would still call us filthy, try and disrupt our economic progress through NGOs, never stop the negative analysis through their media, spy on our Political Parties, etc. etc.

So it is best if we mend our ways now.

namo is second most futuristic PM. First was PV narsinh rao. But alas, sonia gandhi took care that his body after death won't be allowed in congress office like other congress prime minister's bodies. .
.
regarding this satellite, its good idea and will also generate revenue and more policies for india. Just inviting Sri lankan and pakistani leaders gave freedom to many fisherman who were prisoned.

India rejects Pakistan's help in SAARC satellite project

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...RC-satellite-project/articleshow/47897310.cms

NEW DELHI: India has rejected Pakistan's offer to provide "technical" and "monetary" support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious SAARC satellite project, maintaining that it was a "gift" by the country to its neighbours.

During a meeting of space experts from SAARC countries to discuss the modalities of the project last week, India also did not favour suggestions that it should be brought under the ambit of SAARC, asserting that deliberations at bloc level would delay the launch of the satellite on December 8, 2016, the SAARC Day when the government intends to do so.

Modi, during last SAARC Summit in Nepal in November, had announced India's decision to develop the satellite which will benefit all SAARC countries in various fields including telecommunication and tele-medicine.

After giving "cold response" to the project, an eight- member Pakistani delegation attended the Space Technology meet on June 22 which saw the presence of experts from all SAARC member states. Among the South Asian nations, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have fairly advanced space programmes.

"There was a proposal from the Pakistani side that it was ready to offer monetary and technical support. We politely declined it as the project is a gift from India to its SAARC neighbours," said a senior government official.

It has also declined demands from Pakistan that the satellite project should be taken up at the regional level. India said since it was a "gift" to its neighbours, it did not want to make it a "SAARC project".

"This would have meant deliberations and opinions from other countries and that would have taken time. The Prime Minister has specifically said that it was India's gift to its neighbours.

"There are so many other aspects that are involved. For instance, with the project comes the cost. Not all countries would be able to pay the cost and that would have held up the project. And we intend to complete by December 8, 2016, the SAARC Day," the official said.

However, the official said India was very much "open" to consultations from other SAARC nations on their requirements from the project. Several countries have given their "wish list", but the satellite would primarily be for communication purposes, the official added.

This is to teach them their early refusal to take the gift.

More over it is a gift and not a Project. :)
