Pakistan has also tested their missiles which have more or less the same range. Each time we do a missile test it is followed by a missile test in pakistan. Why do they conduct only after we conduct? Those beggers always show off too much.

well dhanush is the ship launched version of prithvi-tactical ballistic missile.k-15 is not a cruise missile but a quasi-ballistic missile like iskander missile of russia.these missiles are launched like normal ballistic missile but after reaching a certain altitude it cruises to it's target.k-15 has a range of 700km(1000kg warhead) to 1900km(180kg warhead).so we see that k-15 and dhanush both belongs to separate category of ballistic missile and hence dhanush cannot be replaced by k-15 which in turn might replace agni-1.

India successfully test-fires N-capable Prithvi-II missile

India on Thursday successfully test-fired its nuclear capable Prithvi-II ballistic missile from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur near here as part of the user trial by the Army.

"The indigenously developed missile mounted on a mobile launcher was test-fired from the launch complex-3 in the ITR at around 0905 hours and the trial was fully successful," defence sources said.

"Earlier also, Prithvi-II missile had proved its robustness and accuracy repeatedly during many trials," a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) official said.

"Taken from routine production lot during earlier user trials by Indian Army, the missile had achieved single digit accuracy reaching close to zero circular error probability (CEP)," the sources said.

Prithvi-II with features to deceive any anti ballistic missiles, had demonstrated flight duration of 483 seconds reaching a peak altitude of 43.5 km in the 2008 users trial.

Similarly, as a part of the operational exercises by Armed forces, two Prithvi-II missiles, aimed at two different targets at 350 km from launch point of ITR, at Chandipur were successfully launched within minutes of each other on October 12, 2009 and all the mission objectives were met.

The sleek missile once again proved its accuracy when the user tried it in a salvo mode on March 27 and June 18, 2010 from ITR, Chandipur. It was the fourth successful Prithvi-II flight within a period of eight months.

With a striking range of 250 to 350 km, Prithvi-II missile is capable of carrying a pay-load of 500-1000 kg warhead.

Agni-II prime to be test-fired again on August 29

After the unsuccessful maiden test-firing of of Agni-II prime, a nuclear-capable surface-to-surface missile with a strike range of 2,500 km to 3,000 km in December last year, DRDO is planning to test the missile once again on August 29.

DRDO sources said the test-firing would be done from Wheeler's Island in Bay of Bengal.

On December 10, the maiden test-firing of the missi;e ended in a massive failure after the missile dropped off into the sea a few seconds after it was launched from Wheeler Island. The Agni-II prime, a modified version of Agni-II, is an intermediary between Agni-II and Agni-III. It has two stages and both are powered by solid propellants.

DRDO officials said they hoped that the test-firing would add teeth to India's nuclear deterrence. The Agni-II prime or A-2, manufactured by DRDO's Advanced System Laboratory (ASL) in Hyderabad, has a longer range and higher performance with respect to the thrust and weight ratio than Agni-II missile. The new missile was expected to perform better at various levels in terms of accuracy, strength and distance covered in comparison to Agni-II.

Agni II prime can carry extra fuel and will have a new motor in its re-entry vehicle for better manoeuvrability, a flex nozzle in the second stage to avoid anti-ballistic missile defences and an improved navigation system. New technologies introduced into the missile to make it lighter have also provided it with greater thrust.

BrahMos airborne launcher prototype undergoing tests

BrahMos airborne launcher prototype undergoing tests

Its first flight test on a Su-30 MKI aircraft likely by end of 2012

The BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram Limited (BATL) has been contracted to build five prototype airborne launchers of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile with its first flight test on a Su-30 MKI aircraft slated to take place by the end of 2012.

Designed by BrahMos engineers and approved by the Sukhoi Design Bureau, original makers of Sukhoi, the launcher was indigenously developed by BATL, A. Sivathanu Pillai, Chief Executive Officer of Indo-Russian BrahMos Aerospace, told The Hindu over telephone.

Fabricated using high strength aluminium, the 6-metre-long airborne launcher — the largest in the world — weighs 350 kg.

"The first prototype is undergoing various tests in Hyderabad. Four more prototypes will be fabricated at BATL with tests conducted in a staggered fashion," Mr. Pillai said.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), in the meantime, has begun to make necessary modifications to the Sukhoi undercarriage to take on the launcher from which the missile, with a take-off mass of 2,500 kg, would be gravity-dropped.

Once the structural tests of the launcher are over, its mechanism of release would be tested from a static platform using a dummy missile. The launcher would then be integrated onto the reinforced Sukhoi airframe to repeat the test. The electrical interface between the aircraft and the launcher would also be checked using a technology missile with the operation of release carried out from the cockpit. At the end of it, actual air launches of BrahMos — firing of the missile booster from a Sukhoi — would be conducted using the last airborne launcher prototype.

Concurrently, test-firing of BrahMos from a submerged pontoon off Visakhapatnam is also on the cards.

"This should happen during the current season in the window between November this year and March next," said Mr. Pillai. Once proven, the submarine version of the missile is tipped to arm the Navy's next line of P75-I submarines.

Soon after the joint venture celebrated the 10 year of the missile's successful supersonic flight, an agreement was signed in Russia in August to grant $1 million each to the Moscow Aviation Institute and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore for joint research on development of a hypersonic version of the missile.

Shaurya Missile Test this week

Orissa | Updated Sep 20, 2011 at 01:00pm IST

BALASORE: The defence scientists are preparing for a development trial of India's new age nuke-capable medium range missile Shaurya from a test range off the Orissa coast on September 24.

The missile was first tested on November 12, 2008 has been scheduled to be test-fired from a silo built underground at the Launching Complex-III (LC-III) of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-sea. The missile would this time be launched from a 35-foot silo, defence sources said.

Shaurya is a land variant of Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile K-15. DRDO scientists said the missile is so agile that radars across the borders will have less than 400 seconds to detect, track and intercept before it hits the target. Having a strike range of 750 km, Shaurya is equipped with the state-of-the-art technology. The high manoeuvrability of the missile makes it less vulnerable to the available anti-missile defence systems in the world.

"The medium range two-stage missile can carry conventional warheads with a payload up to a tonne. With 10 metre in length and about half-a-metre in width the sleek missile uses solid propellant which gives it a longer service-life and shorter launch time compared to the missiles that use liquid propellant," the official added.

Meanwhile, the DRDO has decided to shift people residing within 2 km radius of the ITR prior to the test as the missile will be fired vertically. A meeting convened on Monday was attended by Collector AB Ota, Sub-Collector Ramesh Rout and officials of the ITR.

big activities ahead Shourya is already under production

The Hindu : News / National : DRDO to test-fire three missiles from today

It will be a busy week from Saturday for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) — it will test-fire three surface-to-surface missiles, which can carry nuclear weapons, from Orissa's coast.

Hypersonic missile Shourya (valour), which can also carry conventional warheads, will be test-fired from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur near Balasore.

This will be followed by the launch of Prithvi-II on September 26, also from Chandipur, and Agni-II on September 30 from the Wheeler Island off Damra.
It is the land-variant of underwater-launched missile K-15 that is being fitted into nuclear-powered submarine Arihant. K-15 is already under production.
Avinash Chander, Chief Controller (Missiles and Strategic Systems), DRDO, said the final version of Shourya was picked up from the production lot for the trial.
