Loss of @kurup the NOTAM guy is being felt now. No NOTAM of latest Brahmos test from Andaman or from air-based Su30.

Indian Army successfully test-fires BrahMos supersonic cruise missile

New Delhi [India], May 24 (ANI): A BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully test-fired by the Indian Army from Car Nicobar Islands on May 22, validating the weapon's deep-penetration capability and accuracy.

The same day, the Indian Air Force had also successfully tested the air-launched version of the missile from a Sukhoi-30 combat aircraft.

The weapon was test fired on a specially designed target chosen at a range of 270 km, "thus validating deep penetration capability by the supersonic cruise missile and accurate engagement of targets in depth," an Army statement said.

It was test fired as part of joint training by the Army, Navy and Air Force.

Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen MM Naravane, who was present at the launch event, congratulated the unit on attaining the feat.

Demonstrating high-level synergy amongst the three forces, the planning involved coordination with a large number of agencies.

BrahMos missile "is a major force multiplier" on the battlefield with "impeccable multirole and multi-platform launch capabilities furthering the confidence of the forces."

Hold your horses on BRAHMOS.

Why would we want to test Dhanush from SBF?

Prithvi 2 could be one contender, but we are not testing it from Abdul Kalam Island. So if its Prithvi 2, then its a deviation from norm.

Prahaar has 150km range but NOTAM is for 300km.
Because NAVREA or NOTAM takes into consideration the hole area where any traffic is denied in the period. So a buffer zone is always declared in NOTAM. So 300 km NOTAM would mean a missile test less then 300 km.

Now it could be a 150 km test, 200 km test or 250 km test.

I don't understand why we are still testing Dhanush. With SLBMs in service, its strategic role is finished. Once Nirbhay is inducted, its tactical role will be finished as well. We anyways have Brahmos on our navy ships. What exactly is the role for Dhanush now?

There are also operational tests. Dhanush is still operational ?? I didn't saw the test location just guessing from range.

Slbm need more boats in water. I'll wait 4-5 years before phasing out dhanush etc.

Well DHANUSH is a cheap alternative of BRAHMOS in ASh role and even in land attack role. SLBM can't replace Dhanush in tactical role. We might phase out Dhanush eventually, but some other Ship launched missile would take its role by then.
