Fifteen Pakistani soldiers have been abducted after dozens of militants attacked a paramilitary fort in Pakistan's northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.:taunt1::taunt1::taunt1:
Local police officer Ejaz Abid said the attack took place early on Friday in Tank district of the province.
Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility for the act of violence, adding that around 30 soldiers have been kidnapped in the attack.
Pakistani Taliban spokesman Ehsannulah Ehsan said the attack was in retaliation for the death of a local Taliban commander. He added that abductors plan to kill the kidnapped Pakistani soldiers.
Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan.
Over 35,000 Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2007. Thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country.
