CNN? CNN has been disreputable for decades in CHina now.As expected, there's a media blackout, and foreign media is being kept away from the affected area, hospitals, etc.
A CNN crew was mishandled and arrested for reporting from outside a hospital. Official casualties are 17 killed and 250+ injured, with property-damage up to 3 km radius of the blast.
I don't think they'll move military ordinance out of ports so close to populated areas. It must have been civilian explosives (eg: dynamite for use in the mining industry). The scale of destruction is huge, possibly from a weapon storage facility! Chinese are superb in concealing the truth.
It is in outskirt of Tianjin . But there are still many resident colonies nearby.I don't think they'll move military ordinance out of ports so close to populated areas. It must have been civilian explosives (eg: dynamite for use in the mining industry).
Even then, it's extremely stupid to store/ship such large amounts of explosives so close to a city as big as Tianjin.
1.I have just read one weibo, the writer says his girlfiend and her mother lived in the apartment closest the explosion site, but just slightly hurt. Now his girlfiend and her mother has went to another safe houses.
the red dot is the girl's apartment, it is the one cloest to the explosion. it is still far enough to shelter the girl and her mother.

2. According the Weibo, the explosing might not be disasterous as it looks, because departments/resident aevenues are far enough.
after all the explosion happened at mid-night in stocks, where few people except firemen were present.
one Supercomputer lab,FSA-Toyta auto plant, Tecent north infomation-headquater are all nearby the blast center. The Blasts shock wave is very powerful, there is a little chance of survival in the red circle. This is not one blast but multiple blasts.
Only good thing is that there are not many residential apartments around the container terminal.
Rest in Peace to the dead !!
