L&T sets ₹2-lakh cr revenue target by 2021

AM Naik, Group Executive Chairman, L&T, at the company's AGM in Mumbai on Friday.
L&T wants to achieve revenues of ₹2 lakh crore by 2021 without compromising on the margins and achieving an order inflow in excess of ₹2.5 lakh crore per annum, said Group Executive Chairman A M Naik on Friday.
He was addressing the shareholders at the company's annual general meeting (AGM).
Naik said: “We believe that the economic conditions are now starting to turn in favour of our company. Combined with the right strategy and on-ground execution, our target, though ambitious, is achievable.”
He pointed that the opening up of the defence sector will lead to business opportunities worth ₹13 lakh crore over the next 10 years. With the resolution of issues relating to fuel supply and a clearer understanding of nuclear liability issues, the nuclear power sector is expected to grow significantly in the years ahead.
The estimated opportunity from this sector over the next 10 years is up to ₹50,000 crore.
Naik interacting with the media after the AGM said the ₹4,300 crore orders for making big artillery guns will come up in four to six weeks, and hopefully, the group stands to win ₹50,000 crore defence orders by December 2017.
Naik said that that the group is keen on restructuring Infrastructure Projects Development Company (IDPL), which hopefully will happen by March next year.
The power plant run by the group in Nabha, Punjab, will have to wait for restructuring as it is facing some legal problems, which needs resolution. The group’s debt equity is healthy at 0.35:1 and it will become healthier as it becomes asset light and consolidated, he said.
On the opportunities in the international market, Naik said that the opportunities in the Middle East have slowed down due to crash in oil prices. Many infrastructure projects have been suspended for at least three years. Therefore, the group has started focussing on new orders from seven countries in Africa and Far Eastern countries such as Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia,
Philanthropic activities
Naik also shared his vision about carrying out philanthropic activities from his earnings as the Chairman of L&T.
He said he got motivated by his grandfather who helped the poor and underprivileged.
“My father also left Mumbai and went back to the ancestral village in Gujarat and joined an upcoming school as its Principal, which benefitted 20 schools in that area. When I remember that work, I worry that what should I give back to the society,” he said.
Naik said that when the opportunity came in 1995, he had donated ₹4 lakh to a local hospital to build a new floor in the hospital.

Guess who makes the Armour of the characters in Game of Thrones and Assassin's Creed
and other Foreign series with a medieval backdrop?

Anyone need a suit of armor? Go to India

NEW DELHI — A slick "Make in India" campaign aims to attract cellphone and high-tech manufacturers to the country, but one successful firm is taking a cue from the Middle Ages.

A company named Lord of Battles in the northern city of Dehradun supplies handcrafted swords, shields, armor and other medieval artifacts to famous shows, including HBO's Game of Thrones, the BBC's Merlin series and FX's The Bastard Executioner.

The secret to beating out competitors from China, Poland and the Czech Republic: “We don’t use any modern methods,” said founder Saurabh Mahajan, a former captain in the Indian army. “All the items are handmade, hand sewn, hand hammered.”

Lord of Battles takes advantage of India's ample cheap labor, but it also relies on the country's pool of skilled craftsmen. When starting his business in 2005, Mahajan traveled to the leather-making hub of Kanpur, an industrial city in the neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh, to convince a few dozen craftsmen making belts and bags to switch to armor.

“We’ve got people who have been doing it for many years and who are used to making items by hand. So we can give good volumes in less time at a much lower price,” he said.

That’s what attracted Road’s End Films, based in Portland, Ore., which used medieval props created by Lord of Battles on its production of Runestone, a film about Vikings in ninth-century North America that is now under production, director Sterling Fiock said.

“They didn't just make what they wanted but would create what we desired — so much more than just armor, helmets and swords,” Fiock said. “The chain mail had a good patina to it and displayed well on camera.”

Mahajan has long harbored an interest in the colonial-era ceremonial dress and arms of the British regiments stationed in India until the country’s independence in 1948. Shortly after his stint in the army, Mahajan happened to meet an Australian costume designer looking for medieval props. He secured his first order, for $300.

Happy with the props he delivered, the designer helped him make contacts with other theatrical companies until Lord of Battles got its big break.

“The company that really gave me a big jump was the Royal Shakespeare Company,” Mahajan said. “Their costume designer really helped me to get more orders.”

Today, Lord of Battles exports 100% of its products, with nearly all its customers in Europe and the United States.

Mahajan's contract with Game of Thrones prevents him from giving details about what he supplied for Seasons 4 and 5. But a look at what Lord of Battles provides to other productions offers some hints.

For Assassin’s Creed and Merlin, the company created riveted aluminum chain mail tunics, steel gorgets to protect the throat, medieval helmets and titanium armor. For other productions, the company routinely provides swords and daggers, leather items, broaches, cauldrons, kettles and locks.

The initiative helped India surpass China as the world’s top destination for foreign direct investment. But most global manufacturers entered India primarily to tap the huge domestic market rather than create an export hub. Handmade products account for about $3 billion in exports and provide 7 million jobs, according to the India Brand Equity Foundation.

“We have the best people in our country,” Mahajan said. “If we market the items well, we can take over any market in the world.”

This is amazing really. Indian Cinema better take note and follow .

TVS stands for Thirukkurungudi Vengaram Sundram , that's the name of the founder.
I am royal enfield fan they are also doing good in foreign, after some initial hiccups their HIMALAYAN is back again as apple of the eye.
Similarly ROXOR is also making right noises in USA.

To extend this argument further..

I’d say let’s not focus on R&D in entire country, we can focus in only the south states. That’s where most of the scientific research institutes are...
