Photograph entitled, "Front of Hindu Rao's house [Delhi]" taken in 1858 by Major Robert Christopher Tytler and his wife, Harriet. During the rebellion, the house was taken over by the British and came under heavy gunfire. The house is now a hospital.

Photograph entitled "Outside of well, Cawnpore [Kanpur]" taken by Samuel Bourne in 1860. The picture shows the outside of the Bibighar Well in Cawnpore (Kanpur) where British women and children died. By 1860, a memorial had been built at the site. In 1948, after India's independence, the memorial was moved to another site.

Picture shows the Bibigurh house in which European women and children were killed and the well where their bodies were found.




Picture entitled, "Slaughter Ghat, Cawnpore" taken in 1858 by Major Robert Christopher Tytler and his wife, Harriet. The picture is of the Sati Chaura Ghat, on the banks of the Ganges River, where, on 27th June 1857, many British men lost their lives and the surviving women and children were taken prisoners by the rebels.




Photograph entitled, "The Hospital in General Wheeler's entrenchment, Cawnpore," taken in 1858. From 'Murray Collection: Views in Delhi, Cawnpore, Allahabad and Benares' taken by Dr. John Murray in 1858. The hospital designed by General Wheeler was the site of the first major loss of British lives.
