And weapons hanging down its bay drop tanks?

May be 2-3 m2 ? If we get to apply good quality RAM.
many claims of Tejas possessing some degree of stealth. Tejas has a Radar Cross Section of 0.5 meter square ( public available figure ) which is among the lowest in 4th Generation Fighter Class.

What if mission is conducted without drop tanks as our adversaries are pretty close. And yes weapons hanging on the bay.

:confused1:

Stealth features have been designed into Tejas.[137] Being small provides an inherent degree of visual stealth, the airframe's high usage of composites (which do not reflect radar waves), a Y-duct inlet which shields the engine compressor face from probing radar waves, and the application of radar-absorbent material (RAM) coatings are intended to minimise its susceptibility to detection and tracking.[138]

This 0.5 square meter is only claimed publicly by Indian fanboys.
The official claim is that RCS was reduced by 70% by implementing some methods.

Even this "public figure" is meaningless as it is quickly jumping to >5m2 when you hang the weapons to it.

This video says,mk1a is currently undergoing final trials in pokran area.

But I didn't find anything related to such trials. Usually such channels are sketchy at best case scenario,So take it as a grain of salt.

Anyway, this could be big news — if they turn out to be true!!!

^^ Not possible, theres not even a full FOC variant out yet. Either from SQ45 or some LSP with FOC level sw.

Most likely the 45SQ with FOC s/w and/or with some additional enhancement slated for FOC.

My bad,I should've been much more clear about it. Not a literal mk1a jet,as the video mentioned above, but a limited envelope platform with mk1a standard sensors on board.(I assumed everyone would understand the context, without explaining it)

Anyway,If it were to be believed,my guess is it is either tested on Lsp 4 or 5.
Bcuz, earlier it was reported that lsp 4 & 5 was assigned to test sensors suites.

Deal with HAL for 83 Tejas Light Combat Aircraft soon: Indian Air Force

NEW DELHI : The Indian Air Force (IAF) is likely to sign a deal with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) for acquiring 83 Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) as negotiations over the price of the fighter jets are almost done, defence sources said here on Tuesday.

In December 2017, the IAF had issued a single-vendor tender to the HAL for procuring 83 LCA. However, the deal is yet to be signed owing to delay in negotiations over the price of the aircraft.

"The cost negotiating committee is almost finished with the price negotiations of the aircraft. Once it is done, IAF will enter into a deal with the HAL," a senior IAF official told IANS.

As per sources, the deal for 83 Tejas LCA, which are of the Mark 1A variant, is expected to cost the IAF in the range of ₹45,000 crore. The aircraft will have improved serviceability, faster weapon-loading time, enhanced survivability, a better electronic warfare suite and Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar that will significantly enhance its capability.

The Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC) had provided the Final Operational Clearance to the Tejas LCA earlier this year, certifying it as a multi-role fighter with capabilities including beyond visual range air-to-air and air-to-ground attack capabilities as well as longer endurance through mid-air refuelling.

In a previous order, the IAF had signed a deal with the HAL for 40 Tejas LCAs. So far, around 18 LCAs have been delivered to the IAF from this order.

India, at present, has a shortfall of around 10-12 squadrons of fighter jets in its inventory even as the first four of the 36 Rafale multi-role aircraft are scheduled to arrive into the country by May next year. At the formal receiving ceremony of the first Rafale jet in France on Dussehra this year, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had said that the full consignment of 36 aircraft will arrive in India by the year 2022.

"India will receive the first 18 Rafale jets by February 2021. By April-May 2022 we will receive all 36 jets," Rajnath Singh had said.

I am asking again, why should 2 years be taken to negotiate a deal that to with our own domestic industry.
My doubt is that babus in both MoD and HAL are to blame. This is absolutely criminal !!!

But still indigenous Haters will keep hating tejas.
May be but it would be better to write real timelines.

I.e. Gripen entered service 1996-7

F 35 A first flight 2006

Typhoon 1994

Rafale too 1. In 1986 it was a tech demo by all European countries involved but they went apart with typhoon and Rafale project. And the reason they didn't entered in production was budget cut.

The reason generally people support Tejas is because it's Indian while the others have no such affinity towards it.

Anyway it's coming it's good will help both IAF and Domestic industry. But don't white wash the crime of the management . Else they'll keep giving the indigenous Lollipop and delay projects or deliver sub par quality.

It wasn't a tech demo but Tejas itself after 18-19 years from when the project was undertaken even then entered service due to pressure by MOD
