Varunastra torpedo Update:

Navy to be handed over the ‘Varunastra’ heavyweight torpedo tomorrow by DRDO in the presence of @manoharparrikar .

India's #Varunastra heavyweight torpedo, entering naval service today, can be integrated on following ships:

The Kolkata class ships were initialy meant to carry the Varunastra torpedo, but the weapon system is delayed because of its "sub optimal performance in high seas."

So now it would carry either the Type 53-65 torpedo or the SET-65E torpedo, the latter seems to be better than the former. :)

The above photo is of SET-65 taken somewhere in Ukraine.

Indian Navy use SUT 226 for its submarine fleet, Their is no issue if Finmeccanica got banned, Paid media hype..

Besides >>

Better than SUT 226 as well as MK24 tiger-fish, Most importantly its made in country and available at large quantity at cheaper price ..

Everything I said was valid, the HWT for ships was not one of the things that Finmeccanica was supplying. There is still a huge gap in India's defence caused by the blacklisting.

The black shark torpedeos for the IN's Scorpenes will not be delivered meaning they are being inducted effectviely toothless and considering they are hard wired for this type there will be a high cost penalty associated with the decsion to blacklist Finmeccanica and go for an alternative.

Anyone who says there is no issue Finmeccanica has been banned is living in delusion, sorry sir.

Your view is based out of Indian context, Same as media who mostly acquires knowledge through glossies that are but publicity material of weapons company, who do their best to sell their weapons with contrived claims.

You are telling that GOI and Indian navy are delusion, Indian Scorpion or any other weapon system made in India are tailor design to meet user specifications, I suggest get your fact right and then debate which makes an impression ..

If India already signed the Black shark deal, then IN will get in time, if IN not signed the deal, then there is no option to buy from Finmecannia

Is any confirmation on Blacklist

Is it not true that the Indian navy desperately tried to acquire the Blackshark torpedo but this was repeatedly scuttled by the Indian govt ? Moreover fact of the matter is at present the scorpene submarines are effectively toothless lacking their primary armament. Efforts to integrate another torpedo may take years if not decades. Who is responsible for this sorry state of affairs?? The submarines costing billions of dollars are useless at the moment and this is a fact we must take into account.

I don't get it really how the submarine become toothless? what about 64 AEG SUT-66 Mod.1 torpedo upgraded by Atlas elektronik they have attest 10 years of life left i assume. Even if you remove war reserve you still have enough to sustain for next 5 years.

Defence Minister clearly said our armed forces will not be punished when it comes to blacklisting of contractors and we saw an example in case of RR. what more assurance you would require when it's coming out of out own DM mouth.

Navy has better idea though you will always see CAG will hype it beyond proportion, well actually all auditor agency do hype it beyond proportion just had been through one where our client agency had an audit.

It's does not matter what the politicians say. In 1962 Menon and Nehru assured the nation that the army was well equipped and would throw the Chinese out. We all know how it turned out in the end. Parrikar is a politician who has less than 3 years left as the Defence minister. After that he would return to being CM of goa. All this while our subs would sail without their torpedoes.

When asked the same question, Parrikar said that he has the options and there is no need to worry about.

We can still go for the F21 HWT. It's basically the same as the Black Shark...except that it's built by DCNS instead of WASS (a Finmeccanica subsidiary). Pretty sure the software shares a great deal of commonality as well, shouldn't be a problem integrating it into the SUBTICS CMS. Especially because it's made by DCNS and obviously they would have considered making it compatible with the Scorpene.

The Black Shark deal hadn't been signed by the IN and whilst the Blacklisting might not be offical, due to the fuss the presstitutes have made over the entire debacle there is no way any Finmecannia product will be ordered this generation.
