Kambala is a buffalo race run in water filled rice fields after the harvest has been done, from November to March.

Kambala (Tulu: ಕಂಬಳ) is an annual Buffalo Race (he-buffalo) held traditionally under the auspices local land lords and households (Aramane,Beedu,Guthu/Mane, Dodmane) or Patel of village, in coastal Karnataka,India. The Kambala season generally starts in November and lasts until March. Since the last two decades nearly 18 kambalas are held under the banner of Kambala Samithi (Kambala Association). As of now, more than 45 he-buffalo races are held annually in Coastal Karnataka, even in smaller remote villages like Vandaru, Gulvadi etc.

Good one @parijataka! :)

Just to add some info. Kambala is quite organised, like cricket tournaments! They have got rules and different types of formats/awards. It is conducted in different parts of Tulunadu (Mangalore-Udupi region). And they have rules that restrict whipping of the buffaloes to a certain degree. Like all traditional sports/arts, interest in Kambla is fast waning.

I'm waiting for some genius to correct you by stating this isn't Karnataka's heritage but Tulu Nadu's heritage & then the REAL Kambala out here would commence . What say @Master Chief
