Night trial of Agni-I put off again

The first-ever night user trial of the nuclear-weapons capable Agni-I surface-to-surface ballistic missile on Wheeler island, off the Odisha coast, was postponed for a second time on Wednesday due to a "technical glitch." Personnel of the Strategic Forces Command had originally planned the test-fire on Tuesday night.

The 15-metre tall, single stage solid-fuelled missile can carry a 1,000 kg payload up to a distance of 700 km. The next launch date would be decided later, DRDO sources said.

and this time..No NOTAM at all...we would wait for more details to find out what kind of test it was.

Try to find out NOTAM for K-15 or B-05 tests in BOB, which was held publicly for the first time in last year ( but 15 times without publication). And then try to find out whether NOTAM is required for Cruise missile. ( For non ballistic trajectory projectiles)

So, the answer maybe is quasi-ballistic trajectory might not be required under NOTAM notification. So, a mere technicality here.

Jagdish range is increased slowly. With the amount of experience we have of Ballistic missiles and simulator we know what is its range.

Sometimes one can do without NOTAM....

May be it is cruise missile......

Chinese are concern because we have not given them any notice, so is the case with Pakistan, our treaty with them only or Ballistic missiles. This is SLBM therefore no notice was given to Pakistan.

This is also a ballistic missile. Question is do we have an understanding for only land based ballistic missile or any. Otherwise they would be notified as well.

Pakistan had protested about K 15 missile launch as it was not given notification of its launch. India has made it clear when they tested K15 that it is not ballistic missile that is why no notice was given.

India successfully test-fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) of its most ambitious 'K' series from an underwater platform off the Visakhapatanam coast. The 750-km range missile, codenamed B-05, was reportedly launched from a submerged pontoon in full operational configuration on Monday.

The user associate launch was conducted by the defence personnel in association with Indian Navy. Defence sources said the pontoon was positioned inside the sea, about 8 km from Visakhapatnam coastline. The missile was fired from 20-metre deep water.

Developed by DRDO, B-05 is about 10 metres long with one metre diameter. Its launch weight is about 10 tonnes. This missile uses solid propellant. It can carry a conventional payload of about 500 kg. Tactical nuclear warhead can also be fitted to it.

Tested several times earlier, the missile is ready for induction. This is said to be second user associate launch of the missile which would propel the armed forces to go for the first user trial of the missile.

Launched underwater, it surges to the surface and is the world's best weapon in this class. The DRDO has begun its production. After its induction, the missile will equip the country's first nuclear-powered submarine ANS Arihant.

"This missile has got both the versions __ SLBM and SLCM (submarine-launched cruise missile). While cruise missile is a loose trajectory missile guided to its destination by an onboard computer, ballistic has a high-trajectory and transcends the atmosphere to re-enter from above the targeted site," a defence scientist said.

The DRDO was focusing on the success of the missile as only a few countries have the triad of firing nuclear-tipped missiles from air, land and undersea. Other countries, which have the capability, include Russia, the US, France, the UK and China.

The source further said that the Navy has reportedly been insisting on the test of B-05's cruise variant as it is difficult to be obstructed and has pinpoint accuracy. It engages in a series of terminal manoeuvres designed to defeat enemy missile defences.

Sources said the DRDO would soon test this missile from a submarine to gauge its effectiveness.

This test, the source indicated, would pave the way for the maiden trial of K-4 missile, which has a strike range of nearly 3,000 km.

it is better that way, Just imagine we will send our arihant to amrickan ocean and launch these 3.5k missile they (their public) wont like it a bit, those who are in similar business knows what it means, we want to keep it low key. So let it be that way.

K-4 tested for Reduced range

Known has India's Black Project , but not so secretive K-4 Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile ( SLBM ) was finally tested from a submerged platoon off the Indian Ocean successfully on Monday .

According to reports Missile tested covered 2000 km range but missile has the ability to cover 3500 km and Missile test on Monday on Purpose covered less range and actual range covered by missile in the test is between 1500-2000 km .

Sources close to idrw.org have confirmed that missile tested for reduced range was pre planned months in advance and has nothing to do with speculation flouting around that it was done on purpose to avoid snooping around by two dozen naval ships of various countries currently searching for missing Malaysian jet Indian Ocean .

Next test of K-15 ( 700 km ) and K-4 (3500 km ) SLBM will be carried from INS Arihant after it completes sea trials and is ready for weapons trials which likely will be carried out by end of 2014 .

Successful testing of K-15 and K-4 missile has given boost to India's second strike nuclear launch capability and after successful integration with Ins Arihant will provide India needed deterrence .

Next step in SLBM development likely to take place is an improved variant of K-4 aka Mk2 with improved range of 5000km , it is still not cleared if it will be same missile which was mentioned in media reports as K-5 or totally a new variant .

Drdo chief in past has hinted that Canister based variant of K-4 missile will be on offer to Indian Army if such request comes from Indian army . K-4 and Agni 3 both have similar range but K-4 is much shorter and highly motor able for transport . Drdo is currently working on developing a canister based variant of Agni-v missile which Drdo is likely to test in mid of this year .

DRDO will never give the actual range away we will only get subterfuge as always. I believe it is actually 3500km.

they tested K15 for 10 times and production started only after that they publicly done its test and shown its pic. So this black project has past and secrecy about its actual range and how it works.

i think it is another wave maker missile.

i also think the pontoon story is subterfuge as well , remember the information coming in about the arihant actually being the second SSBN and the first one being completely secret til today.

sir what do you think of having these Pontoons with live missiles and nukes in selected areas like in Chilka lake and near navy bases

with some modifications, till 5-8 ATVs comes on like.

This is cheap option and it wont cost that much, as is their to build nuke SSBNs.

a correction here: we found the NOTAM for this launch ..so it was published indeed ,right on 16th Mar...
and another notable fact is : the restricted zone is more than 3000 kms which is quite close to the 3500 Km claim of K4 missile ..

and we also found the another NOTAM(with the same resitricted zone was set) which indicated this Launch test was delayed for about 10 days

the early NOTAM published on 3rd Mar----the test was scheduled to take place on any day of these dats: 8th,10th,12th or 14th of this month...
