A sad day indeed - Army officers, jawans battle it out in Ladakh - The Times of India

Sir, Arty is already the achilles heel for the IA, how would disbanding the unit affect our current state of preparedness ?
Won't matter.

A new unit will be raised with the equipment of this unit.

The personnel will be trained personnel of other units as is done for all new raising.

But this unit cannot remain. It has to be disbanded and most of those who are involved removed from service being unfit to have the right to wear the uniform, be they officers or men.

officer attack his CO a colonel and injured him and then jawans attack the young officer and he ran away. now days they watch too much of bollywood movies:taunt::taunt:
The reason is that unlike before, in the training institutions, the senior cadets physically hit the juniors and so it goes into their psyche that it is kosher. Sadly, it is not.

That disgraceful psyche has found expression here and it is just not done.

However, one must await the Cof I and then be sure what happened and why.

It is also time to get rid of these namby pamby psychologists who are laying down soft attitudes as a panacea for suicides and fragging.

All that is required is some honest soldiering and less of following the US techniques and procedures, which maybe OK for the US, but not for India.

Minor incident. But I am sure that Firstpost is intelligent enough to make it a national news.
Does this look like a minor incident to you? And that too on a Defence Forum!!!

This is very serious. The fact that 'action will be taken' is certain - but something drastic needs to be done, for sure.

We don't know what exactly happened, trust we will find out tomorrow. It needs to come out, for the good of the Army. And the good of the nation.

Some may feel that the incident is 'minor' in physical proportion, but it is very major and even dangerous when the 'health' of the military is taken into consideration.

And why not?

the media is doing it's job.
So that public perception of the Army does not change.

Look at China,4 of their soldiers rebelled in December,2011 and fled with rifles and ammo.
3 of them had to shot dead as they refused to surrender.

Initially the Chinese media reported it but they removed the news article soon.
BBC News - Renegade China soldiers 'killed' after Jilin emergency
So some checks should be placed on media with regards to national security.

A shocking development indeed. Not a minor incident by far shot. That too, this happening in a forward region adds to the predicament.
I am sure that the soldiers will be handed the harshest punishments in the book, an incident of thissort is absolutely unacceptable. Personally, IMHO, the media should be gagged from reporting such news. If Avishek Manu Singhvi can stop the media from airing his dirty or whatever CD, then so can the army from media reporting this and raising further hullabaloo.
If one goes by the set of events that occured it is not hard to understand that this is not just one person's fault but a breakdown in lower chain of command. Imagine such incidents happening during actual war. I'm afraid this too will disturb the morale of our forces which is probably at its worst in the past few decades, judging by the incidents happening.

It won't happen in actual war since there is no time to think!

The public perception of army will get better after these idiots get what they deserve. If such things aren't handled, the rot will stay and lead to more problems

One of the reasons that the Indian defence forces in India are respected by the public, is that defence forces still have the concept of accountability and quick justice. The Indian public trusts the Armed forces enough to believe that incidents of indiscipline, hooliganism, corruption, etc. are quickly punished within the Army.

Pushing it under the carpet and imposing gag order on the media is not going to help - the only thing that will happen is, irresponsible rumours will begin to circulate. On the contrary, the Army should impose disciplinary action after an enquiry, as always.Let the public know about it. And the public will know that the Indian Army is still the Indian Army, and accountability is still far better than in any civil organization, as always.

Whatever be the reason for the start of this fight, the officers and jawans lost discipline and acted emotionally forgetting all the discipline they learnt during their time in Army. They need to be punished for their acts if there has to be some semblance of order & discipline restored back in the Army and make it known that undisciplined ones will get the boot.

You can not entirely deny the possibility of scuffles in Army. They are humans like anybody else. This incident is a disciplinary failure. I have no doubt that Army high command will do everything to punish those who crossed their professional limits while taking holistic view over the mishap. What worries me is the media blowing it out of proportion.

Brigadier,

Can you expand on this? What is this US system which you claim has seemed to have affected the Indian Army?

What is shameful is mutiny and nothing else.
Where does mutinies occur?

Answar is that on ships and in armed band like police and Army?

How many mutinies have occcued in Indian Army?
Except for 1857, Peshawar incident and Naval mutinies (all political), none whatsoever?
Sikh protests in the aftermath of Blue star was a socio political sentimental affair. That too was nothing much.
This in an isolated incident of "garam Khoon" of a major boiling beyond control who could not tolerate his wife being misbehaved with.
Had he tolerated that I would call him totally misfit for Army.
What is surprising is the behaviour of the CO who started scolding his officers in front of his men.
Officers ganging up and thrashing the CO can not happen just like that.

*
* Wahtever, in the Army one has to face the consequences of his actions.
No one should be spared .

Yeah surely they are not blowing it out of proportion. Talking about how Armymen can carry out mutiny against established rule & how we should be worried about undisciplined armymen threatening power structure in this country over a evening talk show is not overestimation of situation.

  • Soldier misbehaves with Major's wife.
  • Major beats up the soldier then refuses him medical attention.
  • Commanding officer comes, feels the mood, and publicly scolds the Major.
  • Major and his colleagues beat up the commanding officer.
  • Soldiers join in and beat the Major and his colleagues.

I can see where all this started from.

I agree with Bhadra, the only person fit for the army in this entire saga is the Major who beat up so many people for his wife. I say well done.
