Actually not true - some of the most innovative products, designs and science has come out of Japan - they are really good in "INNOVATION" - maybe not so good in "INVENTION" - which is a different ball game. The USA is really good in INVENTION and INNOVATION - but the Japanese will beat them any day in INNOVATION ( not in INVENTION).

INNOVATION:

INVENTION:

By the way, the Koreans, the French and the Scandinavians are also very good at innovation. The Germans and the Brits are good in invention.

Chinese are gaining rapidly in innovation too - India? - I will let you decide.

Back to topic -

A seaplane will be awesome for Indian Navy and the coast guard too - I hope that it can be used from out LHDs and carriers too.
sir take up a science journal for one year and compare the research from jap, us and other...do it for one year. you will get you ans.

Pick up most recent issues of Nature and Science and you'll find at least one paper from a Japanese group. That said, much of the Japanese R&D is actually industrial in nature so a lot of it is not exactly published in peer reviewed journals. Of late, with increasing focus on academia, this has begin to change.

I am a scientist for 12 years and have been working in engineering research for 4 years - I have some idea of what i am talking about -

The SCImago Journal and Country Rank provides journal and country scientific indicators. As stated in previous posts, these types of rankings have limitations but they are also interesting. The table shows the top 6 countries by h-index and then some others I chose to list (the top 6 repeat from my post in 2008 – Country H-index Rank for Science Publications). The h-index provides a numeric indication of scientific production and significance (by looking at the citations given papers by other papers). Read more about the h-index (Hirsh index).
Country h-index h-index (2007) % of World

USA 1,139 793 4.5% 87,296,701

Everyone wants a bite on the Indian pie.

Selling weapons to India guarantees fat profits. It is the best business in the world.

So why not?

The Walkman was not innovative ? :D
Their companies like Sony, Cannon Honda are one of the most innovative in the world !

btw 'Jap' is apparently a racial slur (we're not aware of it)

Walkman is a rare case of Japanese innovation. In general Japan (or any of the Asian economic tigers) are not known for innovation (new ideas). They are good at improving existing ideas though. Think of how Toyota (or Hyundai) made small cars better, Sony (or Samsung) made TVs better. Asian educational system and culture are more attuned to strict discipline, which is good for fostering improvements and efficiency but it stifles creativity at the same time. The latter on the other hand is more attuned in Western countries were individual freedom is priced the most.

Can we please get back to the Seaplane issue?

I must say that most of our forum members are more interested in different d!ck measurement contests. No matter how much myself and many others have tried to tamp down the enthusiasm of racist, overly nationalistic and clearly ehtno-supremacist newer members, the discourse is becoming more and more uncivil. Very little valuable idea, opinion or information is learnt / shared here and more and more vitriol is spewed.

I am sorry to say, but the same reason why I left other forums like IDF, Sinodefence, PDF etc, will be true for DFI too - immatured, intolerant racists abounding everywhere. I think I have better platforms to spend my time than here ...

Shinmaywa was there at DEFEXPO with the SS-3, though the Japanese gentleman at the stall seemed very insistent that they were only going to sell the IN and IAF the Search and rescue versions i still managed to get hints of a Submarine hunter in the works
anyhoo here we are gentlemen and ladies the Shinmaywa SS-3

In a first, Japan offers to sell aircraft to India - Indian Express

japan is know for quality and less for innvoation. this plane will be with usa tech( hoping) and with japanese quality, i hope India gets few for its elite marine force
The Japanese are very innovative, however they are also expensive. They managed to take the F-16 and double its cost with local production.

In WW II, the Japanese long range Zero fighter was a menace to the Allied Forces.

Zero gained a legendary reputation as a "dogfighter", achieving the outstanding kill ratio of 12 to 1, but by mid-1942 a combination of new tactics and the introduction of better equipment enabled the Allied pilots to engage the Zero on more equal terms.

In my professional field (which is not defence), 75% goods are either Japanese manufactured or were first made in Japan.

Japan has the expertise.

It has to shake itself out of the WWII guilt!

By that you mean the allies slaughtered the Zero's and all other Japanese aircraft. It was a turkey shoot.

not innovation but integrating the developed tech into their products. asimo might be in your mind when you posted. not the right guess dude. japs are for making things more usable, the developed techs are better integrated and modified with the flavor of quality to give it to world. americans loses market more readily then they capture it with the help of innovation.
japs are not innovator, yes they make innovation more user friendly. a geeky jap is all set to make world better and not making world
Believe me, having stayed in Japan for a while I think I have a fair perspective in how innovative Japanese can be. Of course you are right that they do focus a lot on making things better, but that involved a fair bit of innovation as well.

The people at Japanese stall were VERY POLITE and VERY NICE..

During whole day at Expo, Japanese were most polite and helpful..

In RFI for Amphibious aircraft this aircraft is a very good competitor, It can land in rough seas in 3m high waves..

I will scan and post the templates they gave me..
