Just Fanboy stuff but very real looking..

Anyways, Sinshen is late and more a 6th generation figter rather than a 5th generation fighter..
It is more than fanboy stuff, Japan is an advanced country they have a peaceful doctrine
but they have always been prepared a while ago they also revealed their own carrier killer
designed for the new Chinese carrier . Now with chinese claims at a 5th gen plane j20 they
reveal their 6th gen plane. They have China in check they may not have nuclear weapons
but they are under USA's nuclear umbrella where if needed they have access to thousands
of US nukes to use against N korea or China.

The main aspect would be the electronics. I believe japan has a far better and more modern electronics than China, for that all countries except US/UK.
And they could easily get their hand on Us electronics as well which could be game changer.
China can only reverse engineer Japan innovates a world of difference between the two.

China is slowly moving away from all this reverse engineering thing. Maybe this is the case when it comes to military tech. But in all aspects of technology the seem to be certainly leading. Especially the newer generation Chinese.

Chinese may be doing there job,

But can we separate Chinese for Japanese aircraft discussion ?

The reason chinese aircraft was discussed was because in a conflict against
China what plane stands a chance against this plane?? Chinese may have large
numbers but quality will beat quantity.

Japan's TRDI reveals details of 'Shinshin'
A senior official at Japan's Technical Research and Development Institute (TRDI) has briefed Jane's on new details of Mitsubishi's next-generation Advanced Technology Demonstrator-X (ATD-X) ...
11-Nov-2011

I wrote that Japan is eyeing at developing the sixth-generation fighter, called the F-3, as neighbouring China and Russia are accelerating efforts to deploy their own new fifth-generation multi-purpose fighters.

The Japanese Ministry of Defence (MoD) is about to start manufacturing the airframe of the Mitsubishi Advanced Technology Demonstrator – X (ATD-X) fighter known as 'Shinshin' "very soon", Lt. General Hideyuki Yoshioka told me on November 4.

Sir,
We don't know that only time will tell, Both aircraft are not operational yet, I don't think Chinese aircraft have to be every place, what i focus is what we know abt this aircraft..

Going by Japanese electronics place in the world,it will be very interesting to
see what radar they have developed for this plane?

Japanese Stealth Demonstrator ATD-X to Follow F-22 Configuration

Japan's ATD-X Shinshin stealth demonstrator will look a lot like the F-22. Official models and specs confirm it will be Gripen size and, while it will have three-dimensional thrust vectoring, the paddles won't be stealthy.

The engines and electronics are to be ready by 2009, final assembly is scheduled for 2010 and a first flight in 2011.

Span will be 9 meters (30 ft.), length 14 meters (46 ft.) and "weight" 9 metric tons (20,000 lb.), officials say. That weight figure is almost certainly for the loaded aircraft, without external stores, because the Gripen's numbers are about the same.

The configuration looks like it's been taken straight from the F-22, but notice that the planform is quite different, and much more conventional. In particular, the main-plane has less leading-edge sweep and greater aspect ratio than that of the supercruising F-22.

Note the duckbill nose and the flare of the forward fuselage, with a pronounced chine, on that display model.

An engineering model (below) doesn't have the duckbill nose and the chine is less prominent.

We can't be sure which model is the newest and therefore most representative, but it seems likely that the display model would be newer than the engineering model.

By the way, the engineering model isn't for wind tunnel test. We're told it's for radar cross-section tests, but can't confirm that.

The arrangement of the ATD-X's thrust-vectoring paddles is similar to a system that NASA tested in the 1990s. Any operational follow-on to the ATD-X would have to have a stealthier design.

he XF5-1 looks simple, with the small number of compressor and turbine stages that one would expect in a modern combat aircraft engine. Hats off to the Japanese for achieving such a design

Finally, here's the ATD-X canopy, which uses indium tin oxide to disperse radio energy.

ShinShin's radar is an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar called "multifunction RF sensor ', which is intended to have broad-spectrum agility It's a C-band to Ku-band variable band radar. C-band would increase the detection range against stealth targets.

ATD-X Internal Arrangement Revealed

The internal arrangement of Japan's ATD-X Shinshin stealth technology demonstrator is revealed in drawings released by the Defense Ministry's Technical Research and Development Institute.

One drawing clearly shows the S-curve ducts, whose shape could already be inferred from external views of models.

More interestingly, a longitudinal cutaway shows the pilot's seat placed far forward under the generously long canopy. It looks like there's room for a second seat if the equipment right behind the pilot can be moved elsewhere or taken out. And if it is test equipment, then it could be taken out.

The sensor in the nose is passive. The tail fins are very reminiscent of the F-22's, but the planform is quite conventional, as seen on earlier pictures of models, which suggests the ATD-X is not so optimized for a low radar cross section as either the F-22 or F-35. The mainplane has its leading edge aligned with the tops of the inlets. It looks a lot like that of the dormant EADS Mako.

Provision for a second seat is very suggestive. The aircraft is supposed to be only a technology demonstrator, not a prototype for an operational combat aircraft. But, if so, why has it been arranged to accept a second seat, which a demonstrator doesn't need?

The possibility of developing a training version has been raised, but surely no one needs a stealth trainer.

That leaves the suspicion that the designers are sensibly keeping open the option of developing a fighter from the aircraft, perhaps with an eye to replacing Mitsubishi F-2s.

The ATD-X will be unarmed, but a stealth fighter needs an internal weapons bay. Where would it fit in this aircraft, whose weights and thrust put it in the class of the Saab Gripen?

Look again at the first picture. The inlet ducts seem to be well separated. There may be enough volume for weapons between them in the lower fuselage.

Admittedly, squeezing a weapons bay and a second seat into the aircraft wouldn't leave a lot of space for fuel.

We can probably rule out an F-22 weapons arrangement, with bays in the fuselage sides abreast the ducts. The side view seems to show the main gears taking up too much of that space.

After some reserch its seems written measurements are right..

More info here:
Mitsubishi ATD-X
No fvcking way is that anywhere near correct. A 14m long aircraft won't be weighing 31tons. This is at best a 10 ton class fighter like Gripen.

There is no way the engine will deliver 150KN each. The Japanese sent a RFI to GTRE for the Kaveri engine, apart from Snecma, Volvo and GE. They want an engine between 50-80KN(guessing).

This aircraft will be way smaller than Rafale and nowhere near aircraft like F-22, F-35, PAKFA or J-20 in weight class.

japan are good with electronic/automobile, but when come to fighter jet or even civilian jet they lack the experience/knowledge compare to europe, US, russia, even china. Japan pretty much always at the end ask for US help regarding their jets. however japan has the advantage of access US technology and help from US.
