Aviation Week has a story on Japan's i3(aka F-3 ShinShin) project. This is now billed as a 6th gen fighter, complete with anti-stealth radar, and scout drones to fly ahead of mothership to look out for enemy stealth fighters.

Listed key features of ShinShin is listed as follows.

1. Networked cloud shooting.
2. Drones that fly ahead of mothership.
3. Fly-By-Light
4. Anti-stealth radar
5. Laser weapon.

Everything looks good and in order except for dates. Aviation Week mistook the completion date as 2030s, when the Japanese language article meant Heisei 33~37(2021~2024).

LF...The chinese are a long way from deploying their fifth gen aircraft and US is shipping one of their F 22 squadrons there. The F 15 and the F 16 along with the F 35 can easily hold the Chinese till this one comes out.

Satish you are right maybe I shhould have rephrased, Do the Japanese and South Koreans think they will get a 6th generation plane before USA develops one?? Highly doubtful. Chinese always go for numerical superiority while their quality is third class.

US is considering no 6th gens maned fighter but UCAVs, Japs and SK are taking 6gen manned fighter also UCAVs..

And PLAAF will learn its lessons, They are indeed in large no But we need to notice how many fronts they are facing..
