@shinoj - Did you know that a PBS radio VP was once caught sucking up to middle east sheikhs who offered to pay money to air programmes in their interest.

Between 13% to 17% of the Israeli population is Arab (Muslim mostly and Christian minority), who live and work as equal citizens in Israel. How many jews do you think will be allowed in gaza or west bank.

All the incursions of the IDF into Palestinian territory have been in response to attacks from within palestine.

Would you like to engage in a debate over this matter ?

All the Israel Supporters just watch this Video and decide For yourself

Really !!! Was there ever a state of palestine???? The land was offered to beleaguered jews and it was the defenceless famished refugees that the turd arabs waged a war on in 1948.

The palestinians have one of the largest cash flows from the middle east, and all of that goes into weapons...

The entire land belonged to the Palestinians even before the war mentioned by you. Go back in history and see when the jews came there and how they occupied.

Even before that the land belonged to the Jews and was occupied my the Islam invaders.

So it is waste of time to fight for that.

I too support Israel in this issue...

Ancient Period

The region was among the earliest in the world to see human habitation, agricultural communities and civilization. During the Bronze Age, independent Canaanite city-states were established, and were influenced by the surrounding civilizations of ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Phoenicia, Minoan Crete, and Syria. Between 1550–1400 BCE, the Canaanite cities became vassals to the Egyptian New Kingdom who held power until the 1178 BCE Battle of Djahy (Canaan) during the wider Bronze Age collapse. The Philistines arrived and mingled with the local population, and according to Biblical tradition, the United Kingdom of Israel was established in 1020 BCE and split within a century to form the northern Kingdom of Israel, and the southern Kingdom of Judah. Modern archaeologists dispute parts of the Biblical tradition, the latest thinking being that the Israelites emerged from a dramatic social transformation that took place in the people of the central hill country of Canaan around 1200 BCE, with no signs of violent invasion or even of peaceful infiltration of a clearly defined ethnic group from elsewhere.

The region became part of the Neo-Assyrian Empire from c.740 BCE, which was itself replaced by the Neo-Babylonian Empire in c.627 BCE. According to the Bible, a war with Egypt culminated in 586 BCE when Jerusalem was destroyed by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II and the local leaders of the region of Judea were deported to Babylonia. In 539 BCE, the Babylonian empire was replaced by the Achaemenid Empire. According to the Bible and implications from the Cyrus Cylinder, the exiled population of Judea was allowed to return to Jerusalem.

In the 330s BCE, Macedonian ruler Alexander the Great conquered the region, which changed hands several times during the wars of the Diadochi and later Syrian Wars. It ultimately fell to the Seleucid Empire between 219–200 BCE. In 116 BCE, a Seleucid civil war resulted in the independence of certain regions including the Hasmonean principality in the Judean Mountains. From 110 BCE, the Hasmoneans extended their authority over much of Palestine, creating a Judean-Samaritan-Idumaean-Ituraean-Galilean alliance. The Judean (Jewish, see Ioudaioi) control over the wider region resulted in it also becoming known as Judaea, a term that had previously only referred to the smaller region of the Judean Mountains. Between 73–63 BCE, the Roman Republic extended its influence into the region in the Third Mithridatic War, conquering Judea in 63 BCE, and splitting the former Hasmonean Kingdom into five districts. The three-year Ministry of Jesus, culminating in his crucifixion, is estimated to have occurred from 28–30 CE, although the historicity of Jesus is disputed by a minority of scholars. In 70 CE, Titus sacked Jerusalem, resulting in the dispersal of the city's Jews and Christians to Yavne and Pella. In 132 CE, Hadrian joined the province of Iudaea with Galilee to form new province of Syria Palaestina, and Jerusalem was renamed "Aelia Capitolina". Between 259–272, the region fell under the rule of Odaenathus as King of the Palmyrene Empire. Following the victory of Christian emperor Constantine in the Civil Wars of the Tetrarchy, the Christianization of the Roman Empire began, and in 326, Constantine's mother Saint Helena visited Jerusalem and began the construction of churches and shrines. Palestine became a center of Christianity, attracting numerous monks and religious scholars. The Samaritan Revolts during this period caused their near extinction. In 614 CE, Palestine was annexed by another Persian dynasty; the Sassanids, until returning to Byzantine control in 628 CE.

Middle Ages

Palestine was conquered by the Islamic Empire, beginning in 634 CE. In 636 CE, the Battle of Yarmouk during the Muslim conquest of Syria symbolized the complete Muslim takeover of the region, which was regarded as Bilad a-Sham (Greater Syria). The word 'Arab' at the time referred to Bedouin nomads with an Arabian ancestry. The local population engaged in farming, which was considered demeaning, were called Nabaț, referring to Aramaic-speaking villagers. A ḥadīth, brought in the name of a Muslim freedman who settled in Palestine ordered them not to settle in the villages, for he who abides in villages it is as if he abides in graves. In 661 CE, with the assassination of Ali, Muawiyah I became the uncontested Caliph of the Islamic World after being crowned in Jerusalem. The Dome of the Rock, completed in 691, was the world's first great work of Islamic architecture. The Umayyad were replaced by the Abbasids in 750. Ramla, the major city, became the administrative centre for the following centuries. Tiberias became a thriving centre of Muslim scholarship. From 878, Palestine was ruled from Egypt by semi-autonomous rulers for almost a century, beginning with the Turkish freeman Ahmad ibn Tulun, for whom both Jews and Christians prayed when he lay dying and ending with the Ikhshidid rulers, characterized by persecution of Christians as the threat from Byzantium grew. The Fatimids, with a predominantly Berber army, invaded the region in 970, a date that marks the beginning of a period of unceasing warfare between numerous enemies, which destroyed Palestine, and in particular devastating its Jewish population. In 1073, Palestine was captured by the Great Seljuq Empire, only to be recaptured by the Fatimids in 1098, who then lost the region to the Crusaders in 1099. Their control of Jerusalem and most of Palestine lasted almost a century until defeat by Saladin's forces in 1187, after which most of Palestine was controlled by the Ayyubids. A rump crusader state in the northern coastal cities survived for another century, but, despite seven further crusades, the crusaders were no longer a significant power in the region. The Fourth Crusade led directly to the decline of the Byzantine Empire, dramatically reducing Christian influence throughout the region.

The Mamluk Sultanate was indirectly created in Egypt as a result of the Seventh Crusade. The Mongol Empire reached Palestine for the first time in 1260, beginning with the Mongol raids into Palestine under Nestorian Christian general Kitbuqa, and reaching an apex at the pivotal Battle of Ain Jalut. In 1486, hostilities broke out between the Mamluks and the Ottoman Turks in a battle for control over western Asia, and the Ottomans captured Palestine in 1516.

Israel's fighter jets spying on enemy targets without having to leave country

The IAF's Double Tail Knights Squadron dedicates a significant amount of its operations to aerial intelligence gathering.''

The Israel Air Force shed some light on its fighter jet reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities, revealing on Tuesday that one of its F-15 squadrons frequently uses advanced, long-range cameras to photograph enemy targets without leaving Israeli air space.

The Double Tail Knights Squadron, which flies out of Tel Nof Air Base, south of Rehovot, dedicates a significant amount of its operations to aerial intelligence gathering, senior members of the squadron said.'

The targets under observation could be attacked at any time after being photographed and analyzed. "At times, the jets' mission ends with the powerful noise of bombs, as the ground beneath them burns, and at other times, their mission is accomplished with the sound of a lone click, and the planes disappear as quickly as they appeared," a report on the IAF's official website said.

There are two types of aerial photography: Vertical and horizontal,
Capt. M., a former photography officer who served in the squadron, said.

Vertical images are taken when the plane is flying directly over the area that is under observation, while horizontal photos, which have become far more common, can be taken from a distance.

"Today, because of threats [to aircraft], and [new] technologies that have entered the air force, we mainly use horizontal photography," Capt. M said.

On most reconnaissance flights, fighter jets remain in Israeli air space, and take pictures of targets well beyond Israeli borders, such as a Hezbollah arms warehouse in southern Lebanon, or the location of hostile terrorist forces in Syria.

Lt. Omer, the squadron's current photography officer, said: "Our sensors provide a very good picture, so that it's possible to refrain from entering enemy territory, and still gather quality intelligence."

During active combat, the squadron divides its time between attacking enemy targets and monitoring a variety of security sectors.

These include observing the combat arena and additional areas that air force intelligence believes might soon join the theater of war.

The air force has been investing increasing resources into aerial surveillance and reconnaissance. These efforts are led by the 100th Squadron, based at Sde Dov Air Base, which flies Bonanza and Beechcraft King Air aircraft in order to provide a continuous surveillance and reconnaissance service.

These planes operate alongside drone squadrons, used to help assemble a wide-reaching intelligence picture.

A fighter jet's advantage in intelligence gathering lies in its ability to carry heavier, higher-quality sensors, and its self-defense capabilities against ground-based threats.

The visual intelligence is usually sent back to Military Intelligence, which analyzes the data, and builds up a database of targets.

IDF deploys Patriot battery in Eilat

A Patriot missile battery was deployed near Eilat in mid-April, as part of an IDF plan to assure permanent protection of the resort city's sky. Deployed by the Air Defense Command of the IAF, the new Patriot battery replaced the aging Hawk anti-missile platform which was permanently deployed in the area.

The new Patriot battery includes an advanced radar system; it is expected to provide a strategic response to ballistic missiles, enemy warplanes, and attack UAVs.

The battery's interception program was upgraded in the last year and a half to allow the Patriot to quickly intercept simultaneous targets. The new radar array deployed by the battery will provide enhanced identification capabilities for a wide-range of suspicious locations and targets in the Sinai peninsula, Jordan, and the Red Sea.

Will cut hands of those who seek our demise: Israel
minister

JERUSALEM: As Israel prepares to pay tribute to 23,169 casualties of war and terrorism since 1860, the country's defence minister has pledged to pursue peace but warned to sever the hands of those who sought the Jewish nation's demise. "Israel marks its 66th year of independence this week but unfortunately we have not reached the end of our travails and we have not reached tranquillity," he said. Day of Remembrance for the Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism is Israel's official Memorial Day held every year on May 5. Several events marking the Remembrance Day will start on its eve this evening after a minute- long siren across the country. A two-minute siren will also be heard tomorrow at 11am across the country marking the start of official memorial ceremonies held at 52 military cemeteries. The defence ministry today said that 57 recently fallen had been added to the casualty count since Remembrance Day of 2013, and that an additional 50 disabled army veterans have died due to their disabilities. "We will not be deterred. We'll continue to seek peace, but we'll cut off the hand of those who seek our demise," Moshe Ya'alon, Israel's defence minster, was quoted as saying by the Jerusalem Post. The number of bereaved family members stands at 17,038, of which 2,141 are orphans and 4,966 are Israel Defence Forces (IDF) widows. "The air raid sirens that will piece the air on the eve of Remembrance Day will be the sign that transforms personal loss, which is so agonising, to everyone's loss," he said.

Netanyahu: We owe our existence to fallen heroes

Prime minister praises the 23,169 men and women who gave their lives to protect the State of Israel.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Sunday the men and women who sacrificed their lives for the State of Israel at the opening ceremony of this year's Memorial Day held in Yad Labanim compound in Jerusalem.

"The fallen of Israel's wars are our national heroes. We would not be here today if not for their willingness to lay down their lives so we could be here. Never, not even for a moment, do we forget we are here thanks to them," Netanyahu said.

Over the next 24 hours, officials will attend traditional ceremonies and the country will observe moments of silence led by wailing of sirens.

At precisely 8 pm on Sunday, sirens will wail throughout the nation of Israel marking Memorial Day, when the country pauses to remember the 23,169 soldiers and security personnel who gave their lives protecting their country.

As the sirens wail, the country will effectively stop for a full minute of silence. Vehicles will pull-over and work will also stop as the entire country will stand in silence for the duration of the siren.

Events honoring Memorial Day will begin four hours before the sirens with the traditional ceremonies at Yad LeBanim in Jerusalem at 4pm. The Prime Minister will attend this event as well as the Speaker of the Knesset and Israel's chief Rabbis.

At the end of sirens in the evening, President Shimon Peres will be joined by Chief of Staff Benny Gantz at the Kotel to light the traditional memorial candle.

A special event will be held at the central Synagogue Chen HaTzafon in Petah Tikvah in association with Or Avraham Ohavi. Major General of the Southern Command Sami Turgeman will take part in the ceremony along with a former Shayetet 13 commander and traditional attendees.

Two minutes of silence will be observed Monday morning along with more sirens throughout the country at 11am followed by ceremonies at military cemeteries expected to be attended by hundreds of thousands.

The memorial service to be held at Mount Herzl will be attended by Harriet Levin, mother of first-sergeant Michael Levin, an American who was fatally wounded in the Second Lebanon War.

Harriet lives in Philadelphia but tries to come to Israel to her son's grave every Memorial Day. "My son gave his life for the nation of Israel, and I feel like I have to be here every Memorial Day," said Levin.

Memorial Day will end at 8pm on Monday.

Google honors Israel's 64th

Company's 'doodle' is decorated in blue and white Israeli flags

Google has donned blue and white for Israel's 64th birthday. Users of Google all over the world will notice some special decorations adorning the image of the company's name as it appears on the search engine's homepage.

Four cartoon children, all with different colored hair and what appears to be slightly different colors of skin — perhaps an allusion to the multi-racial makeup of the Jewish people and the state of Israel — appear on the page, happily hanging Israeli flags from the "G" to the "e" in the Google logo.

The modified logo is known as a "doodle," and Google has modified it for special occasions frequently. Previously, Google honored the Olympics, various holidays, the Addams Family and celebrities (on their birthdays) with unique Google doodles.

IAI To Transfer Spy Sat to
Military Users

YEHUD, ISRAEL — A month after launching Israel's newest spy satellite into space, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), producer of the Ofek 10 and its advanced radar-imaging payload, is poised to transfer the strategic intelligence system to military hands. IAI Chief Executive Yossi Weiss said Ofek 10 should be delivered to operational users "within weeks," following extensive in- orbit testing by specialists with the company's MBT Space Division here and Defense Ministry research and development authorities. "So far, along all parameters, we're quite satisfied," Weiss said of the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite launched April 9 by an IAI-produced Shavit rocket. "We're taking our time to work through a very methodical and thorough testing program," he said. "There will be no cutting corners. ... And when it's ready — within weeks — we will hand it over to the government of Israel to operate as an additional strategic asset for its use." In a May 4 interview, Weiss said Ofek 10 and its SAR payload, built by IAI subsidiary Elta Systems, embody "the edge of technology in the imaging satellite domain "¦ with substantial cost- effectiveness for our clients." Like the IAI-built TecSAR serving Israel's intelligence community since early 2008, Ofek 10 uses scanning radar arrays, rather than electro-optical cameras, to capture high-resolution images at night, in bad weather and even through camouflage nets. But Ofek 10 — at 330 kilograms, just 30 kilograms heavier than TecSAR — is more powerful, agile and capable of capturing more high-resolution imagery over wider areas, executives here said.

Israel and US hold large-scale joint missile defense drill

Some 1,000 US troops arrive in Israel to participate in exercise held every two years, said designed to test joint response to missile attacks.

The Israeli and American armies were to begin a joint drill in Israel on Sunday, to test the two nations' missile defense systems. Some 1,000 American soldiers have arrived in Israel for the drill, Israel Radio reported.

The drill, code-named Juniper Cobra, is held every two years and is designed to test the joint Israel-American military responses to missile attacks, the radio said. Israel's central missile defense system, the Iron Dome, is jointly funded by the United States.

General Eyal Eizenberg, who heads the Home Front Command, last week issued a reminder that the Home Front would be a prime target for Israel's enemies during any conflict.

Speaking during an IDF drill, Eizenberg said that the enemy understood that what it did not launch in the open salvo of a conflict would not be an option as time went by. The enemy would try to paralyze Israel and demoralize its citizens using any weapons available, Israel Radio quoted him as saying, in order to achieve a ceasefire that would rule out an Israeli counter-offensive.

The Home Front, warned Eizenberg, is the second front in any war and central to the enemy attack.

Both Hezbollah and Hamas use missile strikes on Israeli civilian population centers as a key strategy during conflict. In the 2006 Second Lebanon War, Hezbollah fired more than 100 rockets a day at Israeli targets, primarily in the north, but reaching as far south as Hadera.

Peres to be awarded Congressional Gold Medal

President Shimon Peres becomes one of only nine individuals ever to have been chosen to receive both the Congressional Gold Medal and Presidential Medal of Freedom "¢ Peres to make farewell visit to U.S. next month, before his term in office ends.

The U.S. House of Representatives approved legislation earlier this week to award President Shimon Peres with the Congressional Gold Medal.

The U.S. Senate passed a similar bill in March.

The Congressional Gold Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which Peres was awarded by U.S. President Barack Obama in June 2012, are the highest civilian honors in America.

The bipartisan initiative to give Peres the Congressional Gold Medal was sponsored Senators Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) and Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Congressmen Trent Franks (R-AZ) and Joe Kennedy (D-MA).

"President Shimon Peres has embodied a commitment to the mutual values shared by the United States and Israel -- values that include the preservation of life, faith, family, and freedom," Franks said on Monday. "As a figure instrumental in deepening U.S.-Israeli relations, Peres' lifelong dedication to these foundational principles, as well as his steadfast dedication to making the world a safer place from the sort of hateful ideologies that lead to terrorism, more than warrants his receiving a Congressional Gold Medal."

Kennedy said, "For over 70 years, President Shimon Peres has dedicated himself to the enduring bond that unites Israel and the United States. There has been no greater champion for our shared values and defender of our shared interests. The passage of this bill signifies that Congress and the American people stand strong in our support of Israel and her people."

Peres, 90, is one of only nine individuals ever to have been chosen to receive both the Congressional Gold Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Peres, whose seven-year term as president ends in July, is set to make a farewell visit to the U.S. next month. During the trip, he will meet with Obama at the White House.
