Very bad move for Israel. From what I have noticed, Israel is a very aggressive nation and although I like how the country is aggressive for some issues (like handling terrorists and having the guts to do things when needed) killing innocent people delivering aid is just wrong on many levels. Gaza needs support and aid and it's not like they are sending tanks or guns to Gaza, but basic supplies for survival and Israel looks worse then any other country right now in my opinion.

One message to Israel, the world is watching.

that is one lame reason for worsening relations, no nations would have relations with anybody if that were true.
Lol...i didnt say that relations worsened because Israel refused to sell Barak-2. Because relations were already worsened,barak-2 was denied. That was just an example!!!

Why did passengers attacked the soldiers trying to board the ship ? What kind of peace activist will backstab the soldiers with knives ?
If the crew had co-operated with the israelie navy for strip searching the ship then they would already had been in gaza by now.
Why were they so insecured if they did not possesed any weapons.
Israel sure have their side too, this is a weak case.

UN Security Council slams Israeli raid on flotilla

UNITED NATIONS: UN Security Council members on Monday condemned Israel's attack on a humanitarian flotilla for the Palestinians and urged Israel to end its blockade on the Gaza Strip.

In individual statements ahead of a possible official UN Security Council reaction, the 15 council members issued remarks, almost all condemning the Israeli assault in which at least nine people were killed.

"It is clearer than ever that Israel's restrictions on access to Gaza must be lifted in line with Security Council Resolution 1860. The current closure is unacceptable and counterproductive," British Ambassasdor Mark Lyall Grant said ahead of the emergency session called after the deadly attack.

France, Russia and China -- also veto-wielding permanent council members -- also called for the blockade to be lifted and for an independent inquiry.

The United States, Israel's traditional ally which often uses its veto power to aid the Jewish state -- did not request specifically that Israel end its blockade on the Gaza Strip. But it hinted that the measure at least should be eased.

US deputy permanent representative Alejandro Wolff said Washington was "deeply disturbed by recent violence and regrets tragic loss of life and injuries. We are working to ascertain the facts.

"We expect a credible and transparent investigation and strongly urge the Israeli government to investigate the incident fully," Wolff said.

"Direct (aid) delivery by sea is neither appropriate nor responsible under the circumstances," Wolf added noting that the "situation (was) unsustainable and is not in the interest of any of those concerned.

"We will continue to engage the Israelis on a daily basis to expand the scope and type of goods that are allowed into Gaza," Wolff said.

Israel's UN envoy Daniel Carmon meanwhile insisted that the flotilla was not on an aid mission.

"Although portrayed in the media as a humanitarian mission delivering aid to Gaza, this flotilla was anything but a humanitarian mission," Carmon said.

"What kind of humanitarian activists demand to bypass the United Nations, the Red Cross, and other internationally recognized agencies?

"What kind of peace activists use knives, clubs and other weapons to attack soldiers who board a ship in accordance with international law?"

The Brazilian UN envoy Maria Luiza Ribeiro said the incident "stresses the need for the blockade of Gaza to be lifted. It is a violation of international law," she said.

For Wolf, the US diplomat, "ultimately this incident underscores the need to move ahead quickly with negotiations that can lead to a comprehensive peace in the region.

"The only viable solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is an agreement negotiated between the parties that ends the occupation that began in 1967 and fulfills the aspirations of both parties for independent homelands for two States."

Israel is facing a wave of international condemnation over the raid, in which at least nine people were killed.

Yahya Mahmassani, representing the Arab group at the UN, said there were a number of issues that were important for Council members to address.

"We want a strong condemnation because this happened in international waters, two: we want to lift the blockade on Gaza, to allow all the food and material that was sent to Gaza to arrive and third: Israel should abide by international law and its commitment under international law," he said.

The talks were requested by Lebanon, which holds the council's rotating presidency until 0400 GMT on Tuesday.

The country's Prime Minister Saad Hariri "asked the Lebanese delegation at the UN to call for an emergency meeting over what happened today," a Lebanese official said earlier.

The Palestinian permanent representative to the world body, Riyad Mansour, said there was hope that "at the end of the day... the Security Council will have a decisive outcome, a reaction to bring Israel into account at the same level of that crime that has been committed in the high seas."

Turkish foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu said "Israel's action is a grave breach of international law. In simpler terms, it's tantamount to banditry and piracy. It's murder conducted by a state."

Barak-2 isn't even developed enough for it to be offered. Turkey is looking for systems already in service for long range air defence.

Why would they not attack soldiers boarding their ship? It was international waters and what IDF did was an act of piracy. They were 50 miles off Gaza. IDF commandos are lucky they didn't get shot. I certainly wouldn't cooperate with a strip search by a foreign military on my own ship. I would repel borders. What IDF did was against the law and now Israel will pay the political consequences for their stupidity.

@Ganesh: You can not search any vessel in international waters until unless you are not in war with that nation.

Netanyahu: Israeli soldiers acted in self defence

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the Israeli commandos who raided a ship that was trying to break Israel's blockade of Gaza.

"Our soldiers had to defend their lives or they would have been killed," Mr. Netanyahu told reporters in Canada before he broke off his visit there to rush home to Israel.

At least nine, and possibly as many as 19, civilians were killed early Monday morning when Israeli naval commandos stormed a six-ship flotilla bound for Gaza. The attack occurred after the ships rejected a demand to either turn back, or make for the Israeli port of Ashdod, where their aid cargo would be unloaded and inspected before being transferred to the salient by land.

Mr. Netanyahu said that only one of the six ships, one carrying hundreds of people, resisted cooperation with Israeli military demands that they dock in Ashdod. The five other ships had cooperated.

He said all cargo going into Gaza must be screened by Israel because Gaza has become a base for Hamas terrorists "backed by Iran, and from which they fire thousands of rockets into Israel."

"We try to let all humanitarian goods, peaceful commodities, food, and medicine, into Gaza," the Israeli leader said. Mr. Netanyahu said that when the Israeli soldiers boarded the ship, they were "mobbed, clubbed, beaten and stabbed" and that there were also reports of gunfire.

"We regret this loss of life," the prime minister said. The Israeli ambassador to the U.S., Michael Oren, told CNN that the Israeli soldiers were armed with paint ball guns and side arms for self defence.

Mark Regev, a spokesman for the Israeli government, told the BBC that it was "100 per cent" certain there was live fire aimed at Israeli soldiers.

Mr. Netanyahu cancelled his meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama for Tuesday. The two men spoke on the phone, during which Mr. Obama urged a full and quick investigation of the incident.

The attack has been widely condemned - from the European Union, across Latin America and the Middle East. A wide range of leaders have called for Israel to end its blockade of Gaza.

New Delhi: Turkey has threatened Israel with unprecedented action after Israeli forces attacked an aid vessel, killing 10 peace activists headed to Gaza.
Israel said 10 people died while those on the ship said at least 15 were killed.
A shocked world has responded with outrage. Turkey recalled its ambassador to Israel and warned of unprecedented and incalculable reprisals.
Two Turkish activists were reported to be among those killed in the flotilla. Ankara warned that further supply vessels will be sent to Gaza, escorted by the Turkish Navy, a development with unpredictable consequences.Israel has sounded an alert throughout the country fearing rocket attacks by Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The Arab League has called an urgent meeting on Tuesday to decide on a common response. Egypt is under pressure to end the blockade of Gaza while Greece has cancelled a military exercise with Isreal.
The world is waiting for the response from Washington, how will President Obama react to the provocation from America's closest ally.

Turkey needs a military takeover, current FP is jeopardizing the ME.

Israel has made it clear it doesn't want to win popularity contests,so what will this achieve ? Palestinians have only been hurt by such an act. Palestinian cause doesn't need any more "advertising", it needs solutions.

Why these ships didn't use Red Cross or any other agency for providing "aid". And in any so called "aid" mission Pakistanis are there then it should be striped and searched thoroughly as they are the most "peaceful" people on earth

Israel is in a butt load of trouble now. What were they thinking attacking a Turkish ship in international waters and killing civilians? They must want sanctions.
Pardon me, but I think Israel has every right (even in International Waters) to stop arms from reaching Gaza and then killing of Israeli citizens. They have been doing that for ages now and successfully too.

Israel must be censured and its actions condemned by the UNSC. Those Israeli generals guilty of ordering those soldiers to board a civilian vessel in international waters with intent of causing bodily harm must be be punished, and Israel must be made to pay compensation to the families of the victims. The Israelis run crying to Uncle Sam everytime Ahmedinejad says something bad about them, but they actually engage in far worse crimes.

It is these kinds of incidents that make my blood boil. Deliberate targeting of civilians by security forces is a gross abuse of their power, and against all norms of human rights. Do they think they can attack any international civilians just because they murder Palestinians with impunity?
Israel does not need USA to take on countries in the middle east. They have done it before, they can do it now. Your hatred for Israel is not justified, when there are Canadian troops involved in human rights abuses too.

Believe it or not IMO, Israel - the state is very much similar to a jewish Pakistan. No offense to either Israeli or Pakistani people as such.
Both were created on a political religious ideology - the only states created by partitioning the regions by the British. Creation of both countries was opposed by the orthodox and traditional Muslim and Jewish scholars for Pakistan and Israel respectively. Both depend on American and are top recipients of aid both civilian and extensive military aid. Both have committed huge crimes and get hardly a rap from the US because of their strategic interests met by them. And increasingly both countries have a dangerous level of loony religious right in the govt. and army. And until the 1970s when Israel enforced the compulsory military service, the Israeli state supported "non- state actors" (i.e. terrorists groups) to get rid of Palestinians in the land under their control. This why you keep hearing about the right of return of refugees for Palestinians. We had a similar situation where non-Muslims were ethnically cleansed from Pakistan.

While the Pakistani Army has a state, in Israel the army IS the state. Both countries are not confident in their existence. Although India has repeatedly assured Pakistan that it recognizes it as a separate country, you have the regular complains that "India has not accepted the reality of Pakistan" and wants "Akhand Bharat". Similarly, even thought the Arab peace plan led by Saudi Arabia and now recently HAMAS itself has said that we will recognize Israel fully and establish diplomatic relations as per the 1967 borders but Israeli officials still continue to claim that they deny Israel's right to exist. Bot claim that acting in a lunatic manner actually shows how brave they are, the case of Pakistan is well known, but did you know that the Israeli defense minister before the 2008-2009 Gaza raids said that "We have to act like a lunatic state so that the Arabs are scared of us". The scary thing is both posses nuclear weapons as well.

Of course there are differences as well but the similarities are striking.
Does it warranty any worth of read? British did not give freedom to Israel, Israel snatched it, won it.
