Middle to senior level officials in the ISI and military in Pakistan knew the arrangements made for Osama bin Laden at his Abbottabad safe house, claims a leaked email of Stratfor, the US-based global intelligence firm.

"Mid-to-senior level ISI and Pak military, with one retired Pak Military General, had knowledge of the OBL (Osama bin laden) arrangements and safe house," wrote Fred Burton, Stratfor's vice-president for intelligence in an email, leaked by WikiLeaks, to one of his company's regional director for South Asia soon after the killing of the al-Qaeda chief by the US commandos.

Burton, one of the world's foremost experts on security, terrorists and terrorist organisations, however, did not reveal his source, but did say the source was in Pakistan. Less than a dozen people within ISI and Pakistan military had information on Osama, he writes. In the May 13 email, he says, the source did not provide him with names. At the same time, he asserted that the US intelligence knew about it.

Wikileaks alleged that while a large numbers of Stratfor's clients work in US military and intelligence agencies, it gave a complimentary membership to controversial Pakistan general Hamid Gul, former head of the ISI.

The original wikileaks site with the STratfor data for those interested is here

The Global Intelligence Files - List of Releases

While this is not surprising, what should be noted is that despite the US KNOWING that some ISI officials were in contact with OBL, they have refused to take up Pakistan on it atleast in public.

Names unk to me and not provided.

Specific ranks unk to me and not provided.

But, I get a very clear sense we (US intel) know names and

ranks.
Did Pakistani army officials know Osama Bin Laden was hiding in Abbottabad?

Emails from the security think tank Stratfor, released by WikiLeaks on Monday, suggest that up to 12 Pakistani intelligence and army officials were aware of Bin Laden's presence in the Pakistani city.

The emails released do not identify the agents, but show that were mid- to senior level officials in the Pakistani military and intelligence service ISI
