IAF's 'Iron Fist' to begin from Feb 15

IAF's 'Iron Fist' to begin from Feb 15 - The Times of India

JAISALMER: The biggest air power demonstration 'Iron Fist' in the history of IAF will begin in Chandhan area at Pokhran field firing range in Jaisalmer from February 15. In the nine-day exercise, fighter planes and helicopters will fire missiles and drop bombs at dummy targets.

The air force has written a letter to the district administration requesting to bound villagers living adjoining to the firing range not to do farming activities and not graze cattle between February 15 and 23 so that the exercise does not cause any damage to live and property. Following the letter, Pokhran sub divisional officer C L Verma, the tehsildar including other administrative officers visited many villages adjoining the range and warned them no to go near the range from February 15 to 23. As President Pranab Mukherjee will also arrive to witness the exercise, the district administration has started the preparations.

District collector Shuchi Tyagi said the IAF letter asked the administration to prevent people from nearby villages to go near the range during the exercise period.

Verma said villagers from Keru, Ujasar, Tadana, Bheelon ki Basti and other nearby villages have been asked not to graze their cattle, stop farming activities and not to venture out to tubewells and water holes in and around range during the exercise. The SDM further said the priest of Bhairu temple at Keru has also been asked not to allow devotees to the temples during this period.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of district collector Shuchi Tyagi in regard to the preparations and arrangements for the visit of Pranab Mukherjee on February 22. Personnel from air force, police and other department officers were present during the meeting.

The Indian Air Force for first time ever will practice day and night and display its full combat power capability during "Iron Fist", its biggest firepower demonstration at the Pokhran firing ranges in Jaisalmer. The new air strip in Pokhran range is operationally ready for this mega event. All preparations for the event have been completed. Nearly about 100 fighter planes and helicopters will take part in that mega event.

IAF's Iron Fist will shock and awe

Some live display of India's growing military might is in the offing as the Indian Air Force combat jets will off-load bombs in the Rajasthan desert demonstrating its "shock and awe" capabilities while the defence scientists will attempt two new missiles versions in the coming days.

Supersonic cruise missile BrahMos will be fired from underwater and sub-sonic Nirbhay with strategic capability will be tested for the first time this month.

In the IAF's exercise Iron Fist, which will begin on February 15, fire power demonstration will be held in the Pokhran range close to the Indo-Pakistan border.Bombs will be dropped day and night by all the variants of fighters in the inventory ranging from the Jaguars to Mirage-2000s and the formidable Su-30 MKIs.

While the IAF will be concentrating its energies in the west, defence scientists have planned an underwater launch of BrahMos cruise missile near the eastern coast. The missile is meant to be integrated with the navy's new submarines that will be built under project 75 India which, incidentally, hasn't taken off. The missile has been installed on frontline warships.

The DRDO scientists said the first trial of sub-sonic cruise missile Nirbhay will be conducted later this month. The medium range cruise missile is tipped to have advanced technology with a special loitering feature and capability to fly extremely low to avoid radar detection. Sources said the loitering feature meant that the missile will wait for its target after being fired.

Earlier this week, DRDO chief V.K. Saraswat had claimed that work has started on the key strategic missile Agni VI, capable of carrying multiple warheads.A long range underwater launched ballistic missile K-4 is also learnt to be in the advanced stages, sources said.

IAF gears up for Iron First at Pokhran

February 22, 2013 would witness the Indian Air Force demonstrate its operational capabilities by day, dusk and night at the sprawling facility of the Pokharan Range, the largest air –to-ground weapons firing range for training in delivery of heavy armament, near Jaisalmer, in the arid Rajasthan Sector in an Exercise named – The Iron Fist.
Showcasing more than 30 types of platforms and Weapons Systems amounting to a participation of over 200 aircraft, this Fire Power Display will demonstrate the day and night employability of air power by frontline fighter aircraft of the IAF including - Su-30 MKI, Mirage-2000, Jaguar, MiG-21,MiG-27, MiG-29 and Hawks. The transport aircraft would include – C130J, AN-32, Embraer and IL-76, while Mi-8, Mi-17 V5, Mi-17 1V and Mi-35 Attack Helicopters will constitute the Rotary Wing ingredients.
Being a display of armament delivery skills by pilots at the end of their training year, the exercise also aids commanders and planners to gain better insight into the potential and deployment capabilities of aerial weapons.

The IAF would also be showcasing, for the first time, its Surface to Air Missile Systems and its latest aircraft Pilatus PC-7 Mk II. The events at - Iron Fist intend to display various aspects of Fire Power like- Air Defence Operations, Counter Surface Force Operations, Urban Warfare and Combat Search Rescue Operations.
Light Combat Aircraft and Light Combat Helicopter, two of the most prestigious indigenous projects would also form a part of the display. In addition, IAF's Parajumping Team, Akash Ganga, IAF's Air Warrior Drill Team and Air Warrior Symphony Orchestra would also perform.

Aimed at providing the nation the reassurance that the IAF will deliver whenever called upon, a demonstration of this magnitude is being carried out for the first time by day, dusk and night. Very few air forces in the world can achieve this feat.

Bangalore: The next stop for India's Tejas Combat Fighter is Jaisalmer. After completing its duties at the just-concluded air show here, the aerospace masters at Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) are gearing up for the next big show - Iron Fist. Tipped as the mother of all fire power demonstration of the Indian Air Force (IAF), Iron Fist will be held from February 15 in the Pokhran and Chandan firing ranges, near Jaisalmer.

The participation of Tejas was confirmed to the media by the IAF boss Air Chief Marshal NA K Borwne during Aero India-2013. Now sources tell Express That at Iron Fist, Tejas Will Show the indigenous Combat strength to Indian and international Audiences for the first time. "This is the first time the IAF extended an invitation to HAL-ADA for Tejas' participation," sources said.

Three Tejas variants from its test flight-line are being readied in Bangalore for IAF's spitfire show. Tejas is also expected to fire a Russian R-73 missile in addition to dropping a LGB (laser-guided bomb). "Only one aircraft will eventually take-off for the fire display and the remaining two will be on a hot stand-by," sources said.
The HAL-ADA contingent, with a mission to prepare the aircraft, assess the flight analysis, collect the data collection and address any snags, are expected to leave Bangalore in the next couple of days. "We intent to achieve 100 per cent success during the fire power demonstration. In addition, it will also give Tejas an international recognition. For the first time it will be a day and night exercise, gauging the readiness and technological capabilities of IAF assets, of which many have undergone upgrades," sources said.

President Pranab Mukherjee will be at the range to get an upclose of the prestigious exercise, which will conclude on February 23.

Use of LCH which is yet to be operational in this exercise is really heartening. It means the forces accept this bird as worthy.

Awaiting serial production in large numbers to enhance our capabilities.
