QUETTA/ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office lodged a strong protest with Iran on Saturday after the neighbouring country's border guards stormed into Pakistani territory and killed a security official.

Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Ali Raza Haghighian was summoned to the Foreign Office in Islamabad today, diplomatic sources said, and Pakistan lodged a strong protest with him over the recent incident.

Diplomatic sources confirmed that during the meeting, the Foreign Office demanded the Iranian ambassador to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, which also resulted in injuries to four other Pakistanis.

The protest came hours after Iranian forces again fired mortar shells into Pakistani territory earlier on Saturday.

Security officials told Dawn that Iranian border guards fired three mortar shells in Mashkail, a Pakistani town bordering Iran.

A security official who requested anonymity said that the shells landed in deserted areas close to the sparsely populated town in Balochistan province.

"The mortar shell attack caused panic among the people," the official said, adding that Frontier Corps (FC) and Levies personnel reached the spot and security was tightened around the border.

No casualty was reported in the attack, the official added.

The shelling came after a junior officer of the FC was killed in an attack by Iranian border forces in Mand area of Balochistan's Kech district. Four FC personnel were injured.

Moreover, the Balochistan government demanded that the centre take up the issue of continued border violations by Iranian border guards with the Iranian foreign office.

Jan Muhammad Buledi, spokesman for the Balochistan government, stated that Iran had been violating Pakistani territory and attacking civilians for the past three days. Buledi has demanded Islamabad to take up this issue with the Iranian foreign office and lodge a formal protest in this regard.

Earlier on Friday, the Iranian border guards had stormed inside the Mand area of Balochistan and had attacked a vehicle of Frontier Corps, killing one soldier and injuring three others.

Khan Wasay, a spokesman for FC troops in Balochistan, told Dawn that at least 30 Iranian border guards had entered into Pakistan's bordering town of Nokundi and made the residents hostage for six hours.

"We have sent a formal letter to Islamabad regarding Iranian intervention and violation," Akbar Hussain Durrani, Secretary Home and Tribal Affairs Department Balochistan told Dawn.

Durrani said the provincial government had taken up the matter seriously and urged the capital to raise this issue with Tehran.

I would really love to see a full fledge war between Pak-Iran, its a childhood dream of military enthusiastic inside me.... But sadly I have to admit that Pak have an edge over Iran if it comes to war, F-16s, Agostas, Babur cruise missile, Much better tanks and artillery , Awacs almost in everything... :(
Read up on the tactics of the Iran-Iraq war. Iran the heavy underdog with a massive disadvantage used some really brilliant tactics to defeat Iraq. The Persians unlike Arab armies, seem to really know how to fight. I'd love to see that war too, I get the feeling Iran would pull some really amazing tactics and tricks, and I'd like to see if Russia/China/India/others would be able to keep the USA blocked from helping Pakistan against Iran. The Pakistani's would probably also fight quite well, so it would be a hell of a match up.

A direct war between Pak and Iran, Pak have a edge over Iran, since it is a nuke country and has a bigger army. Due this is vital an alliance with India. This would force them to divide its forces on the two Pak borders and so it would limit the size of force employed against Iran.

It would be important too, Iran seeks gain the soul of Baloch people, that are from Iranian origin. The issue is that Iranian Balochistan is poor and underdeveloped like Pak Balochistan. Iran should invest in Sistan-Balochistan province and try to do it like a mirror of Iranian soft power as like as India did in Kashmir, much more developed that PoK. If Iran gains the political preference of Baloch people it will have an edge over Pak, because people will cooperate more with Iranian forces giving them info about enemies.

Iran ends cooperation agreement with Pakistan
Iran has unilaterally ended the government-to-government cooperation agreement with Pakistan, and after this decision the much-talked-about Iran-Pakistan IP gas pipeline project has become unfeasible, sources told Daily Times.
A copy of official documents seen by Daily Times disclosed that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources on October 2 revealed to the federal cabinet's ECC that Iran has unilaterally ended government-to-government cooperation agreement with Pakistan and is not even prepared to offer $500 million for the construction of the long-awaited IP gas pipeline project. With this decision the IP gas pipeline project, in its present form, has become not feasible.
According to an agreement signed earlier between the two countries for the supply of natural gas to the country, Pakistan had been made bound to purchase gas from Iran till December 2014. Pakistan would pay one million dollars per day as penalty to Iran in case of its failure to purchase the Iranian gas. It has also been told to the ECC that Inter State Gas System; a company of petroleum ministry has issued a notice to Iran on IP gas pipeline project. The ISGS has claimed forced majeure on the basis of international sanctions on Iran, while under the forced majeure it has become unfeasible for Pakistan to work on the said gas import project. A clause of forced majeure has been included in the IP agreement, Petroleum Ministry informed the ECC meeting. Officials in the Petroleum Ministry believe that if sanctions on Iran are lifted in the future, Pakistan would have to ink a new agreement with Tehran for the purchase of Iranian gas to meet its energy demands. "Force majeure has been claimed under the IP gas line project," a source said.

Bro... During Iran-Iraq initial phase of war actually Iran had an edge over Iraq due to those crazy F-14 Tomcats. IRAF inflicted huge losses over Iraq air force with the help of those Tomcats... But they were already under US sanctions due to Islamic revolution in Iran and those sanctions started showing effects in later stage of the war and Iraq by then was started getting equipped with brand new Russian fighters and lots of help from the western world. Due to this in second phase of war Iraq inflicted huge losses on Iran, they even advanced much deeper in Iran territory. So if you study Iran and Iraq whole war deeply you will see that by the end of the war Iraq scored higher victory over Iran though none of them was a clear winner.

Iraq started out with better equipment and forces overall, especially when it came to tanks. Iran was under HEAVY sanctions and didn't have spare parts or supplies for any of their equipment. Iran had just purged a large number of their military officers and was in the middle of a civil war. The invasion of Iran was suppose to be a very easy thing, which is why Saddam Hussein invaded it in the first place. Iran pulled some brilliant moves, cannibalizing spare parts, using human-wave attacks, and another innovative tactics. Iraq was resupplied heavily by nearly every major power on earth and was supported by both super powers at the time. Despite the massive Iraqi advantages Iran managed to not only unite in the middle of a civil war, overcome their severe embargo's and sanctions, but pushed the Iraqi forces out of Iran and then invaded Iraq for a while.

"Saddam had heavily invested in Iraq's military since his defeat against Iran in 1975, buying large amounts of weaponry from the Soviet Union and France. By 1980, Iraq possessed 200,000 soldiers, 2,000 tanks and 450 aircraft.[50]:1 Watching the powerful Iranian army that frustrated him in 1974–1975 disintegrate, he saw an opportunity to attack,"

"Iraq began planning offensives, confident that they would succeed. Iran lacked both cohesive leadership and spare parts for their American-made equipment. Iraq, on the other hand, possessed a fully equipped and trained modern military, consisting of 190,000 men, 2,200 tanks, and 450 aircraft."

-Not only did they start out with a MASSIVE advantage, but they were heavily resupplied, while Iran was cut off. Not to mention the Iranian civil war and Iraq having the advantage of surprise. Talk about being the underdog!

Though correction to my last comment, you are right Iraq it seems was on the verge of winning towards the end of the war due to the use of chemical weapons and massive reinforcements of equipment.

Iran and India should set an alliance to free Balochistan and Kashmir respectively by joint operations against Pakistan in the two borders

Pakistan wouldnt resist to fight two fronts at same time. There are yet the actions of Taliban along of Afghan border. That means three fronts, though Taliban struggle is a particular one and dont be part of such anti-Pak alliance..

And China could not to do anything against Iranian engagement against Pak since the chinos depends of Iranian gas.
Something has to be done to teach Pakis a lesson... they forgot the lesson of Bangladesh.
