Iran Launches Four New "Ghadeer Class" Stealth Submarines

The Ghadir which can only do one thing - coastal patrols inside the Persian Gulf. It's got a ~5 man crew, is 30 m long and has two 533mm torpedoes- there is only so much the Iranians co do with that in terms of adding additional equipment. ....

True . These are just useful for defence of the coastline which they absolutely need against US. If they build a long range stealth submarines its a matter of concern for the US.

That would be the next step, they will definatly build long range silent stealth subs, thats per sure..........

If we look closely finishing of the body is not very good. I dont think that these subs will be very good in stealth and will also have very small opearing range. For them something it better than nothing.

@SHASH2K2,
The finishing of the body of is major concern for US sonars and anti-sub systems, the ugly finishing is actually rubber tiles ( Anechoic tiles ) which is covering the sub, Anechoic tiles are rubber or Sorbonne-like tiles containing thousands of tiny voids, applied to the outer hulls of military ships and submarines, as well as anechoic chambers. Their function is twofold:

* To absorb the sonar sound waves of active sonar, reducing and distorting the return signal thereby reducing its effective range
* To attenuate the sounds emitted from the vessel, typically its engines, to reduce the range at which it can be detected by passive sonar

The modern materials consist of a number of layers and many different sized voids, each targeted at a specific sound frequency range at different depths. Different materials are sometimes used in different areas of the submarine to better absorb specific frequencies associated with machinery at that location inside the hull. Modern Russian tiles are about 100 mm thick, and apparently reduced the acoustic signature of Akula class submarines by between 10 and 20 decibels, which is 10% to 1% of its original strength.

You just stole my words. The looks do suggests otherwise. Its diesel electric which is best for less noise level Never seen a green submarine though.

Thanks a lot for the info. If Iran has access to such technologies definitely there will be something even better available for other navies like Russians or French or this is the best for time being ?I am asking for it wrt our scorpenes .

Scorpenes will have upto date tiles which are comparable to akulas and better than Kilos, regarding Iran sub, they must have accessed technical info from China and they already have good-old kilo class subs..

Some more pics of the Sub..

Dimensions: L 29m, W 2.75m
Displacement : 120 tons dived
Crew: 5
Endurance: 30days
Speed (est): 11kts surfaced, 8kts submerged
Powerplant: Diesel-electric
Armament: 2 x 533mm (21") torpedo tubes with 2~4 torpedoes, Skhval rocket torpedoes or 4~8 mines. Possibly submarine launched anti-ship missiles
