Looks like ass. Rather have Caracal, MKU produce their AR carbine.

The guy in one of his tweets said that the abomination is likely to be inducted (or should i say shoved down the army's throat by the idiotic babu-OFB nexus).

Is it going to happen? I hope it doesn't and the army gets a proper 21st century carbine from a private manufacturer.
Another question, why is the OFB allowed to manufacture anything after the mess they made of the INSAS?

Indian Army to test AK-203 in carbine role also against terrorists
The assault rife would be provided to troops for carrying out anti-terrorist operations. A separate tender is being floated to buy 93,000 carbines under fast track procedure.

The Indian Army is planning to use a modified version of the AK-203 assault rifle in carbine role for its troops deployed during counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The AK-203 assault rifle would be manufactured at Uttar Pradesh's Amethi facility in a joint venture between the Ordnance Factory Board and Russia.

The assault rife would be provided to troops for carrying out anti-terrorist operations. A separate tender is being floated to buy 93,000 carbines under fast track procedure.

"We want to try out the AK-203 in the carbine role. We can remove the rifle's butt completely to reduce its size and then it can be hidden easily under clothes to be used in close quarter combat operations against terrorists," top Army sources told ANI.

"If needed, more modifications can be done in the AK- ..

"Efforts are under process to acquire 93,000 carbines and the Defence Ministry has formed an oversight committee to look into the case."

A senior Lieutenant General-rank officer has been appointed as the member of the committee including other members from the Defence Ministry and the DRDO.

The Defence Ministry is expected to take a call once the oversight committee submits its report.

The Central government has already finalised contracts for buying two types of moder ..

Any pictures available? 7.62x39 mm round for a carbine is a very stupid idea. Smaller barrel means worse terminal ballistics and more recoil. Round itself prevents sustained automatic fire for accuracy which is the template of carbines.

5.56x45 mm is ideal for carbines. Yawing of round at 100 - 125 yards allows for better performance against soft targets. M855/SS109 rounds good against LVL III and below body armor at 15 yards.

Meanwhile OFB's gun is pure nonsense.

Just check net. Ak104s had been around 2 decades. Russian Spetsnaz had been using Ak104 successfully. Recently they had improved Ak104 into 204.
Earlier colt commando too had the same issues as u mentioned ewrlier, but we had seen Hk and later colt and other gun manufacturers solved the issue for some extent

This is not ideal at all. AK 74u sized is OK. Else it's worthless.
