Rubbish. Rifle Ammunition needs tech transfer? What nonsense! Either OFB is full of retards or MoD is.

Isn't this incompetence of the highest magnitude????
Who would insist that the same company should make Sniper rifles AND ammo????? Most sniper rifle manufacturers are niche companies that produce these rifles in small quantities. Obviously they won't have a 'giga' factory to make standard ammo that other ammo companies produce!

Why cancel the entire process? Can't they just fork off the ammo part into a different tender?? Well, what am I saying....it's the Indian bureaucracy at work here!!!

Looks like there will be two new RFIs. Ammo manufacturing part was totally stupid.

The word upper is generally short for upper receiver, which combines with the lower receiver to form the whole thing. These words are normally associated with AR family of rifles or rifles that have a similar construction to the AR(like say SCAR).

The R2 is based on the AK family so the word Upper isn't appropriate here. AR series of rifles and its clones have a receiver and a dust cover.

To answer your question, yes it is a machined receiver(can also be called a milled receiver). The receiver is made out of a single piece of metal. The other way of making receivers in stamping sheets of metal(called stamped reciever), you can clearly see the Ghatak has a stamped receiver.

As a general rule of thumb, milled receivers are perceived as more conducive towards accuracy since they don't flex as much as stamped receivers. However that's not a single deciding factor in rifle accuracy. Multiple other factors are involved.

Check out this video of Larry Vickers engaging moving targets inside a car, first with a purpose built DMR SR-25, with it's inherently accurate AR gas system, and then with a stamped receiver HK-21 LMG with scope mount.

PSG-1 which was designed in the 70s, and built on the same G3 platform, still is no slouch among the latest and greatest DMRs.

Does anyone else think that OFB should start displaying their rifles with accessories? A foregrip and a sight in R2’s case...

OFB needs to do lot more than this. These lazy incompetent babus has zilch understanding of effective marketing. Have you ever met a senior/junior ofb babu? the arrogance and attitude they carry makes u feel that they are doing a big big favour and beneficence to this country. Whatever they are churning out is the best of the best and you hav to deal with it. This white elephant had enjoyed enough monopoly and protected from competition. BJP is slowly making them awake by allowing foreign manufacturers to produce world class small arms in India like Tavor Punj Lloyd collaboration and Izmash line in Amethi.

Now, a new jolt to sleepy OFB. In the civilian arms manufacturing, OFB has complete monopoly, and they are supplying decades old design of Revolvers and Pistols. Everyone knows these are nothing but crap sold at ridiculously high price around 1.5 lacs. Since buyers have no choice (Thanks to monopoly) they are forced to buy these craps. OFB never did any work on new design since business was going as usual. Now BJP led govt has allowed local and foreign manufacturers to supply NPB bore pistols and revolvers. A Himanchal based Seikh Arms will start supplying .32 bore pistol (copy of Llama pistol) to arms dealer soon, costing approx 1.25 lacs. And good news is now two models of Glock pistol, G42 and G25 will be available for civilians by October this year costing at 1.5 lacs. These Glock pistols will be manufactured in Chennai. Also a Jaipur based firm has started making quality 6 round shotgun at 80k. So clearly these lazy buggers ofb will face difficult time.

The (Joint Venture Protective Carbine) JVPC won't replace the 9mm OFB Carbine of Indian Army, instead INSAS 1C (new variant) will. INDRA Networks at International Police Expo 2019
