Instead of these MP-9s, the army should induct the JVPCs, their round is more lethal, moreover its indigenous. And, going by publicly available material, it has performed well in the trials conducted.

I've never understood IA's reversal on their own requirement for a 5.56x30mm round!! The round was specially designed per IA's needs. Now they're going back to 9x19mm????
Not making much sense at all!!
JVPC has twice the range as MP-9 (200m vs 100m);
5.56x30 round will pierce body armor, while 9x19mm will not!!

1500 Mp9 were bought in emergency for Ghatak Platoons few years ago to replace sterlings. After it's success in Indian conditions additional SMGs were bought for Ghataks & Para SF. During all this JVPC was under development phase. When it was almost ready Army issued requirement for a new 5.56×45mm carbine.

Now lets hope that atleast new ones get delivered in 12-14 months after signing deal.

Unlike the 5.56mm carbine, i do not think that JVPC would be handed out to frontline troops in IA. I think its only support troops like artillery or tanks crews would be armed with it.
But from last few months we have seen lots pictures of Amogh being used by Police force across India.

Not that it makes sense - but Paki army calls 7.62x39mm (AK47s) as sub-machine/carbine!!!

ARMY FLOATS TENDER FOR 41,000 LMGS

LMGs should have firing accuracy of 800 metres. Should be in specific black and gray colour with non-reflective surface. The guns must be compatible with all modern sights and accessories

In a major change of weaponry for the Army, a tender was issued today seeking supply of some 41,000 new light machine guns (LMGs) to equip its infantry battalions.

This is the first change of an LMG—basic weapon of infantry units— in the Army’s armoury in two decades. A request for information (RFI), the first step of a tender, looking for additional vendors was issued today, complete with details of requirements.

The RFI was first issued in October last, but the parameters on its numbers, method of sourcing, firing capabilities, etc, were issued today after the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) okayed the need for 40,949 LMGs. Of these, 30,712 will sourced from private Indian industry and another 10,237 from the Ordnance Factory Board. The indent to OFB will be placed after successful completion of trials.

The 7.62x51 mm LMGs are to be procured under the ‘Buy and Make Indian’ category.
