Does anyone know about the number of catapults and the composition of air wing of IAC-II?

I tried to figure it out based on the sole measurement of IAC-II that we have: displacement of 65,000 tons. And the result I arrived at was IAC-II would have 3 catapults.

Compare IAC-II displacement to Forrestal class super carriers (60,000 tons displacement as per Wiki, which is most likely wrong). Wiki further says that in 1990s, Forrestal had a typical air wing comprising of:-
  • 14 F-14 Tomcats
  • 36 F/A-18 Hornet
  • 4 EA-6B Prowler
  • 4 E-2C Hawkeye
  • 8 S-3/ES-3 Viking
  • 3 SH-60F Seahawk
  • 2 HH-60 Seahawk
That makes a total of 54 Aircraft comparable to AMCA in MTOW. (AMCA 'cause AMCA will most likely be inducted in Air Force around the same time as IAC-II gets inducted in Navy)

Forrestal had a total of 4 catapults.

Compare IAC-II displacement to Charles De Gaulle (40,000 tons). Charles has two catapults and an air wing comprising:-
  • 10/14 Rafale M
  • 12/16 Super Etendard
  • 2/3 E-2C Hawkeye
  • 2 Transport helicopters
  • 2 SAR helicopters
Compare that to PA2 which was a proposed French carrier with 75,000 tons displacement. It looks like it had two catapults and a total air wing of only 40 aircraft (again as per Wiki).

Now I think it might possible to fit three catapults on the deck of IAC-II for better sortie generation rates. I think that the 55 aircraft is a bit low. Even so, a possible carrier air wing can be:-
  • 45 F/A-18 Super Hornets / AMCA
  • 2 E-2D Hawkeye / Netra on enlarged Saras with HTSE-1200 as AEW&CS
  • 4 DRDO Aura UCAV
  • 4 DRDO Aura aerial refueler (similar to MQ-25 Stingray)
  • 8 Seahawk helicopters / 8 HAL IMRH (SAR, transport and ASW roles)
  • Carrier onboard delivery can be done with Seaplanes, can't it?
Not bad compared to air wing of a modern USN supercarrier:-
  • 48 F/A-18 E/F Super Hornets
  • 5 Electronic warfare Growlers
  • 4/5 E-2C/D Hawkeye AEW&CS
  • 14 Seahawk helicopters
  • 2 Carrier Onboard Delivery Aircraft (C-2A Greyhound replacing by MV-22 Osprey)
By the time IAC-II gets inducted into service, PLAN will have a Type 002 carrier (analogous to Kitty Hawk class) and a Type 003 carrier (analogous to Nimitz class). A short while after that, PLAN might start sending a carrier battle group based on its Type 002 carrier and guarded by two Type 055 cruisers and four Type-52D destroyers into the Indian ocean biennially. We need to ensure that we have IAC-II ready to shadow their every move.

On a serious note i believ it would be most prudent to have the hull of IAC-2 to be built at PIPAVAV and then tow it to Cochin for the internal Fitment work
Reliance naval is now no more reliable company which defaulted in Making some ships and government encashed Bank Gauranttee.

Not sure about how many Rafale M the CDG can accomodate in its hangar. But here is proof that you can align 30 Rafale M on the deck. A pretty small deck compared to the one IAC-II will offer.

Now that the repair stations for SEM are removed after the refit, operating 30 Rafale can be done with ease.

You need to remove 12 of those Rafale, one E-2C and one medium helo if you want to recover aircraft on that carrier. Additionally, you need to remove 4 more Rafale if you want to use those lifts.

Can all these 16 Rafale, one E-2C and one helicopter fit into the hangar below? And are just two helicopters going to suffice? I don't think so.

This video says "30 aircraft" not "30 Rafale". BTW, what does SEM stand for?

That does not answer any of my questions, nor does it provide me with any information I don't already know. Maybe you could restate your reply?

It actually says more than 30. If you watched the video you can count 30 Rafale on the deck. SEM stands for Super Étendard Modernisé.
Does not explain how you fit them there. You need to remove 12 of those Rafale, one E-2C and one medium helo if you want to recover aircraft on that carrier. Additionally, you need to remove 4 more Rafale if you want to use those lifts.

Of course it can store that many and more on the hanger deck. The removal of SEM repair stations makes two more slots available.

It is actually three helos there, the Caracal and Dauphin you can see on the deck. The Alouette 3 is the one taking the video. Is it enough? Not really but NH-90s aboard the escorts are available for duty. The mission of the CdG is not ASW.

Wait what? Why would you install a Russian CMS on it when it is going to be using Barak?

Alert 5 reports that BAE systems has confirmed that the Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carrier design has been offered to the #IndianNavy as the future INS Vishal, the design can be adapted for ski-jump or catapult launch.
