There's no such thing as a war crime beta.......and its Hague. Sending people to The Hague is what cowards do after they get their asses kicked, have their superpower friends do their dirty work for them and then get mad and get all uppity and shit even though they just got their asses handed to them by the enemy a while ago and decide to put that enemy leader on trial for the whole world to see instead of shooting that guy themselves.

Two Indian Navy ships deployed for assistance in Sri Lanka
KOCHI: With the cyclone 'Roanu' wreaking havoc in Sri Lanka, India has deployed two warships - INS Sutlej and INS Sunayna - with relief materials, including inflatable rafts, potable water, medical supplies, clothing and other provisions necessary for disaster relief operations.
The ships sailed from Kochi with 30-40 tons of relief materials and are scheduled to reach Colombo harbour on Saturday morning, said a Defence Ministry release, adding that a Chetak helicopter has also been embarked for the deployment.
The decision to deploy the ships was taken by the government late on Thursday night in response to the request for assistance from the Sri Lankan government.
Both the ships of the Southern Naval Command were made ready within six hours after directives were received. The ships, in addition to providing the relief material, would also be participating in the rescue and relief efforts.
Two Dornier aircraft are also standby at Kochi for any emergent requirement.
Roanu, the first tropical cyclone of the season in the Bay of Bengal, has wreaked havoc across Sri Lanka, producing deadly flooding and mudslides.
Meanwhile, intense rainfall will continue in India, elevating the flood threat the next few days.
As per reports, as many as 58 people have been killed in Sri Lanka with hundreds still missing following a series of mudslides, while more than 130,000 families were displaced by the cyclone.

Modi’s Ravana terrorism comment draws ire in Sri Lanka

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comment that Ravana was the new form of terrorism has drawn fire from a Buddhist nationalist organisation in Sri Lanka.

In his Vijayadashmi address in Lucknow on October 11, Modi had linked Ravana with terrorism and said that “the first person to fight terror was neither a soldier nor a politician, but the mythological bird Jatayu who fought against Ravana to protect a helpless Sita, whom he was trying to kidnap”.

“We condemn the statement made by the Indian Prime Minister equalling King Ravana to a terrorist,” Ven. Ittapane Saddhatissa Thero, a Buddhist monk who leads the ‘Ravana Balaya’ group, said.

He said Ravana Balaya would soon hand over a petition to the Indian High Commission In Colombo, protesting against this remark.

Ven. Saddhatissa Thero said Modi’s comment hampers the ongoing reconciliation process in Sri Lanka.

Another organisation Ravana Shakthi said Ravana had not been dubbed a terrorist in even the Ramayanaya.

Shri Hansraj Gangaram Ahir participated in the High Level Meeting of Interior Ministers of the Indian Ocean Region to Counter Drug Trafficking in Colombo, Sri Lanka
Illicit funds generated from drug trafficking driving terrorist activities and illegal arms trade: Shri Ahir
The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Hansraj Gangaram Ahir recently led the Indian delegation to the High Level Meeting of Interior Ministers of the Indian Ocean Region to counter Drug Trafficking, in Colombo, Sri Lanka. In his address during the Meeting held on October 29, 2016, Shri Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said that the illicit funds being generated from the sale of drugs are being utilized for funding terrorist activities and illegal arms trade. The problem of Narco-terrorism is assuming gigantic proportions, he added.

Citing the recent attack on our security forces at Uri by terrorists having their safe havens in a neighbouring country, Shri Ahir said India reserves the right to protect its territorial integrity and sovereignty and has acted in self-defence in the past, whenever and wherever necessary. Underlining that India is committed to take on the demon of terrorism head on and take this fight to the finish, Shri Ahir said this would require concerted efforts by all the stakeholders as no country on its own efforts in isolation can meet the desired objectives.

Shri Ahir said that the increased presence of Naval Forces to counter the threat of terrorism in the Indian Ocean Region has resulted in significant seizures of Heroin consignments over the last two years. The efforts of the Indian Coast Guard, the Sri Lankan Navy and the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) have been especially noteworthy in this regard, he added. Stating that the Government of India has entered into Bilateral Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding with more than 30 countries for checking drug trafficking and that India has also taken multilateral initiatives to tackle transnational organized crime, Shri Ahir said India feels proud to be a part of the newly formed Indian Ocean Forum on Maritime Crime (IOFMC).

The Colombo declaration adopted during the high-level meeting states that narcotic drug trafficking in the Indian Ocean poses a threat to peace and security in the region and its possible link to organized crime and funding of terrorism. It stresses upon the need for coastal states to cooperate more closely on enforcing maritime law, sharing information, and providing mutual legal assistance, including the expansion and development of communication through the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC’s) Indian Ocean Prosecutors Network.

The declaration, which was issued a couple of days ago, called on the littoral states of the Indian Ocean to meet on an annual basis within the framework of the Southern Route Partnership (SRP) of IOFMC to assess and report on the drug trafficking threat in the Indian Ocean and develop a coordinated approach to counter such threats. The delegates also resolved to work towards making the Indian Ocean a “Drug Free Zone”.

The high-level meeting in Colombo was attended by 18 littoral states of the Indian Ocean Region which included seven Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Interior/Home Affairs. The meeting was also attended by seven international organizations/partner agencies and UN agencies engaged in counter-narcotics initiatives in the region.

It was completely India's fault that Sri Lanka git engulfed into a civil war. Sri Lanka allowed Pakistani ships and planes to use Sri Lankan ports and airports in 1971, because of this Indian Government under Congress supported Tamil rebels, later sent brokered a ceasefire and sent Peace Keeping Force with one hand tied in back. Sinahalese are proud and they have suffered religious persecution by Portuguese and national humiliation, they were not eager to see another foreign country to dominate the country. And Indo-Sri Lanka relation got bitter. Even after it, India did not send much military help to SL.

Instead of this mess India should have helped SL Government to put down Tamil rebels, it would ensure good Indo-Sl relation. Pakistanis and Chinese used the opposite and became favourable to SL.

India, Lanka likely to sign port development deal
NEW DELHI, Deccan Herald News Service, Apr 23 2017, 1:12 IST

Modi and Wickremesinghe are also expected to discuss Sri Lanka's proposal for India and Japan to jointly develop a Liquefied Natural Gas terminal in Trincomalee, sources told DH. Press Trust of India file photo

India and Sri Lanka may next week give final shape to a deal for jointly developing the Trincomalee Port in the north-eastern region of the island nation.

Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will arrive here on Tuesday on a five-day visit. His meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to focus on Sri Lanka’s offer to India for developing the Trincomalee Port. Modi and Wickremesinghe are also expected to discuss Sri Lanka’s proposal for India and Japan to jointly develop a Liquefied Natural Gas terminal in Trincomalee, sources told DH.

Both the deals are likely to be signed during Modi’s visit to the island nation next month to attend the celebrations marking the International Day of Vesak or Buddha Purnima.

Modi and Wickremesinghe will also discuss ways to speed up negotiations on the much-awaited Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement.

Colombo has put forward the proposal to India for developing the Trincomalee Port to strike a balance between India and China to allay New Delhi’s concern over Beijing’s bid to expand its footprints and build strategic assets in and around Sri Lanka.

Indian intervention started in 1980's not in 70's due to the fact that Tamils were being oppressed and support to Pakis. Gandhi was under sever pressure from TN to support LTTE. It was in 70's that Tamil demand for a separate state started.

In essence Sri Lanka was in civil strife India decide to help Indians in lanka and problem started.

India, Japan to build LNG terminal, 500MW power plant in Sri Lanka
Apr 30, 2017 07:38 AM GMT+0530 |

ECONOMYNEXT - India and Japan will build a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal, a 500 MegaWatt power plant and a gas distribution pipeline in Sri Lanka, a media report said.

Sri Lanka will issue the Government of India a letter of intent by end May to a build an LNG floating regasification and storage unit in Kerawalapitiya, The Sunday Times newspaper said, citing a memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries this week.

India will also be issued a letter of intent for a 500MW LNG fired power plant by end May.

A compressed LNG retail distribution pipeline network

A joint venture between India, Japan and Sri Lanka will be formed to build the infrastructure.

A Sri Lanka, India and Japan joint venture is to be formed by end July 2017 to carry out the project.

Sri Lanka cancelled a 500MW coal fired power plant to be built by India in Trincomalee in favour of more expensive (but cleaner) LNG, just before construction was due to begin.

Critics alleged corruption in the deal and a desire to award a thermal plant to a favoured party quickly.

Sector analysts also pointed out that the most suitable location for an LNG plant was Kerawalapitiya, near Colombo, where a terminal could be used for powering other users in the Western province and also modifying existing diesel plants to run on natural gas.

Japan had been involved in planning LNG facilities in Colombo for several years and had already helped state-run Ceylon Electricity Board conduct feasibility studies. (Colombo/Apr30/2017)

“An agreement has been reached between the governments of India, Sri Lanka and Japan to set up the LNG terminal as a 50:50 joint venture by Petronet and a Japanese company,” Petronet Managing Director and CEO Prabhat Singh said.

http://www.hindustantimes.com/busin...n-sri-lanka/story-lwUzqdG98TVEZMgmYOQgFN.html

Key points:

Singh said the LNG terminal, which will import super- cooled natural gas in ships, will take two-and-half to three years to build.

The terminal in Sri Lanka is part of Petronet’s vision to own 30 MT per annum of LNG import and re-gasification capacity by 2020, he said.

Petronet already operates a 15 MTPA import facility at Dahej in Gujarat and has another 5 MT terminal at Kochi in Kerala.

It has signed preliminary agreement to build a 7.5 MT LNG terminal in Bangladesh and is also looking at setting up smaller facility in Mauritius.

Singh said Dahej is also being expanded to 17.5 MT over the next two years.

Sri Lanka Revises Deal For Port With China, India's Concerns Addressed
The port in Sri Lanka has been mired in controversy ever since state-run China Merchants Port Holdings, which built it for $1.5 billion, signed an agreement taking an 80 per cent stake
Reuters | Updated: Jul 25, 2017 17:47 IST

A Chinese submarine had docked at a port in Sri Lanka in 2014 (File)

Story Highlights
  • Sri Lanka revises contentious deal with China for a port in the south
  • China gets only commercial rights to the port
  • India was concerned about military use by China of the port
Colombo: Sri Lanka's cabinet cleared a revised agreement for its Chinese-built southern port of Hambantota on Tuesday, the government said, after terms of the first pact sparked widespread public anger in the island nation.

The port, close to the world's busiest shipping lanes, has been mired in controversy ever since state-run China Merchants Port Holdings, which built it for $1.5 billion, signed an agreement taking an 80 percent stake.

Under the new deal, which Reuters has examined, the Sri Lankan government has sought to limit China's role to running commercial operations at the port while it has oversight of broader security. The new terms will help allay concerns of India as also in Japan and the United States, that the port won't be used for military purposes

In 2014, India was alarmed when a Chinese submarine docked in Colombo, where another Chinese firm is building a $1.4 billion port city on reclaimed land.

India has long considered Sri Lanka, just off its southern coast, as within its sphere of influence and sought to push back against China's expanding maritime presence. In May, Sri Lanka turned down a Chinese request to dock a submarine.

Chinese control of Hambantota, which is part of its modern-day "Silk Route" across Asia and beyond, as well as a plan to acquire 15,000 acres (23 square miles) to develop an industrial zone next door, had raised fears that it could also be used for Chinese naval vessels.

Sri Lankans demonstrated in the streets at the time, fearing loss of their land, while politicians said such large scale transfer of land to the Chinese impinged on the country's sovereignty.

"The cabinet approved the deal and now it needs parliament approval. We will send it for approval this week," cabinet spokesman Dayasiri Jayasekera said.

He didn't provide details. A Chinese embassy spokesman said it had no comment to make on the deal. A source close to the Chinese Embassy in Colombo said both sides had reached a compromise and that Sri Lanka's concerns had been addressed.

"They emphasised that they wanted to maintain balanced relations with other countries. But the deal is still beneficial for China in terms of revenue," the source said.

China Merchants Port Holdings will take an 85 per cent stake in Hambantota International Port Group that will run the port and its terminals, with the rest held by Sri Lanka Ports Authority. The company's capital will be $794 million.

A second firm, Hambantota International Port Group Services Co, with capital of $606 million, will be set up to oversee security operations, with the Sri Lankans holding a 50.7 per cent stake and the Chinese 49.3 per cent, according to the document.

China Merchants Port Holdings also agreed to reduce its stake in the joint venture running the commercial operations of the port to 65 per cent after 10 years, the document says.

Sri Lankan Navy commissions India-built AOPV
By PTI | Updated: Aug 05, 2017, 07.31 PM IST
  • Sri Lankan Navy has commissioned an India-built state-of-the-art Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel(AOPV), the first-ever purchase from a foreign ship builder, to boost its search and rescue capabilities.

Sri Lankan President and Armed Forces commander-in-chief Maithripala Sirisena commissioned the new patrol vessel " SLNS Sayurala" this week at a ceremony at the Eastern Container Terminal of the Port of Colombo.

It is the largest vessel built by an Indian ship builder for a foreign navy to date.

The event was also attended by Flag Officer Commander in Chief Southern Naval Command-Indian Navy Vice Admiral A R Karve.

Built at the Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) in India, SLNS Sayurala is the first-ever brand new platform purchased from a foreign ship builder and tailored for the specific requirements of the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN), a navy statement said.

It is expected to conduct patrols, policing, surveillance, reconnaissance, search and rescue, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) and pollution control missions in Sri Lanka's maritime zones, the statement said.

The 105.7 metre-long and 13.6 meter-wide vessel can also be used for external fire-fighting missions.

Sayurala features a range of modern facilities and advanced technological instrument and is capable of achieving the maximum speed of 26 knots and cruising speed of 12-14 knots. It has a displacement of 2,350 tonnes.

Equipped with a landing facility and hangar for an advanced light helicopter (ALH), the vessel can accommodate a total of 118 crew members.

The SLN signed the contract for two AOPVs on February 17, 2014 and officially initiated the construction of SLNS Sayurala in May the same year.

It took delivery of the first AOPV on July 22 and transported the vessel to Sri Lanka on July 28.
