Indo China friendship an cooperation possible?

Why is India spending so much capital on BRICS and also China when India and China don't see eye to eye. We yes we cannot go about saying we are enemies, but yes we can just about have a working relationship and a trade relationship that benefits both of us.

So why a BRICS? What are they doing behind the scenes which we are not aware of. Something that would make all issues between India and china take a back seat and make the two countries cooperate bilaterally and multilaterally? If there is nothing, then why waste so much energy on a BRICS?
